I am of African descent from the Caribbean and as a youngster most of the girls with whom I grew up had a checker board type motif. In recent years when see discussions on ancient Egypt and see many statues of people with similar hair styles represented but people are discussing whether those statues represent Africans. And I say: Who else will be represented this way? It is completely African.

lovely documentary. the only thing i will say u got wrong was the conversations in hair salons. we gossip and talk about our personal problems. they kept quiet for the cameras. either than that everything else was spot on

So neat seeing other cultures braiding history! My ancestors in Celtic Austria (near the bce salt mines) were also recorded by Mesopotamia & Greeks as having long, braided hair close to the scalp or dread locks. ❤

I see the Dominicans as they tend to LISTEN when you tell them don't braid too tight. I stopped going to the African braiding shops bc they don't care if you have edges.
