Watch three adorable lion cubs as they tumble and play, protected by their fierce family members. This was filmed in Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe and is a taste of what you can see there.

ABOUT THIS FILM
____________________
Lions are one of Africa’s most iconic species. As a guest of Wildfoot Travel, I watched a magnificent pride of 11; two males, six females and three adorable cubs at Kanga Camp, Mana Pools, Zimbabwe.
The Kanga pride
Known as the Kanga pride, this family group had a wide territory surrounding a well known watering hole known as the Kanga Pan.
Watering hole
Located right outside my lodgings at Kanga Camp, the pan is one of the only sources of water for miles around. During the dry season it teems with wildlife.
Lion cubs
First to capture my attention were three six-month-old lion cubs, two males and one female. Lion cubs suckle until around this age, so this was one of the last opportunities to watch this.
Family groups
Females in a pride are typically related; mothers, daughters, grandmothers and sisters. The tighter the unit is the more successful the pride will be in hunting, protecting their territory and raising their young.
Lion pride dynamics
Lionesses leave a pride to give birth secretly and will raise their cubs alone until they are roughly three months old. This ensures that all her kills and milk are given to her own cubs and protects them from rival males - who can kill cubs that don’t belong to them.
Lion greetings
But by this age raising the cubs is a team effort and the cubs happily play with older pride members, jumping and tackling them. Although not all the adults have the same patience their mother does.
Play
This play is key to developing hunting skills and ensuring their survival as adults.
Male's hold territory
Lions are highly territorial and will hold the same area for generations and males do regular boundary walks.
Tree climb
In the heat of the day the cubs climb into the branches of a tree to rest, hidden by its leaves whilst their mum stands guard.
African heat
Lions can spend up to 21 hours a day resting. They only have a few sweat glands, so they conserve their energy when it’s hot and are more active at night when its cooler.
Elephants vs lions
Back at the waterhole, a bull elephant catches the lions’ scent and heads close. Lions here are wary of elephants and conflicts can be violent.
Lions vs antelope
The lions give a signature tail flick, demonstrating they are in the mood to hunt. But the antelope pick up the movement and flee.
Male arrives with cubs
The male appears with the cubs, followed by their mother and the family line up for a drink.

Our country 🇿🇼 is so beautiful, blessed with beautiful people and beautiful spicies. And come to think of it we do a lot more than the world knows to protect all these beautiful spicies from protective laws, anti-poaching measures to drilling boreholes for water during the dry seasons! Then there are beautiful sunrises and sunsets, I'm yet to see that kind anyway in the world! - ilanga selibantu bahle = a sunset so beautiful making everyone and everything so beautiful!

Oh my Mr. Fuller, thank you so much for sharing this fantastic adventure! It was great seeing the waterhole teeming with so much life, and absolutely amazing to see the cubs in their pride in natural habitat. How beautiful to watch them playing, and when mom took them to the tree and told them nap time to watch them obey right away and climb the tree. The little legs and tail dangling down was so cute! I do so appreciate your wonderful vides and all you do for the animal world! ❤️🙏

This movie is incredible. What patience and skill to wait for those moments, drinking water, climbing trees, visiting auntie, capturing daddy lion guarding the perimeter, the hours spent napping. The video is so beautiful, but it reminds me of the Gwaai River Hotel where I lived for a while. Now all that's left is rubble. Everything was shot up and many of my friends were killed. I thought about it all afternoon and cried. This is my downside from this wonderful video.

Thank you, so very much, for recording and posting this. Your videos always are so peaceful, informative, and it makes me want to go out and put bird snacks around my area to see what pretty birds live around me. Can you (or any viewers reading my comment here) recommend what kind of feed to get? Would a bag of birdseed from walmart do okay? Should I try to get a stand to fill with the seed, or is hanging birdfeeders best?

I live in the uk so no Walmart here we put out mixed seeds peanuts fat bars we get this from a specialist bird seed company as it’s often better quality Hanging bird feeders from a tree stand or bird table is fine close enough to cover so if hawks fly by the birds can escape I also feed small birds like wrens away from the main feeders on live mealworms Good luck

What camera did you use for the videos ? The image doesn't have the usual "amateur" vibe. It's like watching a doc on tv. Did you use some kind of filter ?

Hi 👋 me and my team used Sony a1’s and Sony a7s lll’s DJI Ronan 4D A lot of time was spent in the edit getting the colours right ND filters were used on some of the footage to reduce the amount of light getting into the camera
