Here in New York we found out my sister had a African mud turtle. We thought she was some sort of slider. I'm happy I stumbled upon your video! We alter some of her habitat now and find some plants for her.

How do you the fishbowl clean? My thought fishbowl filter's not enough?
@CrazyCrittersInc3 жыл бұрын
We agree for sure that filters are not enough and are why turtle owners find themselves frustrated. We use live plants that help filter the water but we rely more on an overflow system using PVC that allows us to add clean water while taking all the dirty water away from the enclosure. Then that filters through natural sand. It stinks to sort of wastewater by not recycling with a filter, however, we find it costs less than the electricity of it all. Plus, it has been a really long time since we had a contamination issue or disease problem and we house hundreds of turtles. It would be great to have an easy way to raise a turtle but that poop does not go away on its own. Ideally, we try to get this turtle wastewater to a plant that can benefit us or the turtle such as tomatoes or lettuce gardens. These ponds in this video are in a greenhouse setting but our babies or indoor enclosures all drain into a bucket where we carry the waste-water out to the bamboo, then we add clean water. Thanks for asking this awesome question!!!

That is awesome! We will go check it out! They really are the neatest species of turtle! We have had success two years in a row and the offspring have been so fun to rear. We won't be able to check out your vid for a few hours but when we do, we will subscribe! Thanks for finding our video. You must be super bored with the Covid Quarantine. Who knew we would be putting ourselves under types of protocols found at animal facilities? Be safe stay healthy!

What's the type of floating water plant do you have? Thanks
@CrazyCrittersInc4 жыл бұрын
That is the invasive Pistia stratiotes aka water lettuce. Not legal to sell or transport in Florida, we are lucky that the state brings us out some a few times per year when they clean out the local lakes and ponds. They know we keep it in a contained greenhouse and all of it is consumed by these turtles. They eat a lot a lot of it! These same plants are HUGE this year. Each floating rosette is over fifteen inches around! They are crazy cool!
