Dholes has high competition too, they face tigers, leopards, striped hyenas, Asiatic lions (historically), wolves, clouded leopards, 4 bear species (brown, sloth, moon & sun), 2 large crocodile species, jackals and many medium small cats like lynx, fishing cat, golden cat, reed cat and caracal. There's also wolverines and honey badgers in Asia.

Africa has all species of hyena and spotted hyenas are twice as good as any wolf in india. Tigers are stronger than lions but lions hunt and live in prides, making them more dangerous. Leopards are still just leopards. In terms of crocodiles, number of species doesn't matter, because mugger crocodiles are about 2 or 3 times smaller than a Nile or saltwater crocodile, and saltwater crocodiles are not too much bigger than Nile crocodiles and not as common in comparison to Nile crocodiles in Africa. Not to mention the additional threats of honey badgers, hippos, and large birds of prey like the martial eagle or secretary bird who prey on their pups. So in terms of competition, they're pretty similar with the African Wild Dog being more at risk.

There were wild dogs that looked like the African dingoes in Bihar and Trivandrum in Kerala in the 80's. I have not seen them after that. They just seem to have disappeared as more housing complexes started to arise.

Asian Dhole (Cuon alpinus) and African Dalerwa (Lycaon pictus) are in the sub-tribe (Canini) Latin meaning true dogs, they are just not in the genus (Canis) Latin meaning dog. In common name i call (Lycaon) African Dalerwa as there is much debate weather to refer to them as dogs or wolves so i call them nether. Dalerwa is a native African name for (Lycaon) from the Venda/Tshivenda language, like Dhole is a native Asian name for (Cuon).

BFQ is a misleading and IMO useless metric. A lion has a much larger mouth and it's BFQ is lower. A lion can also grab a man or spotted dog and kill them in less then five seconds with a bite. An entire pack of spotted dogs cannot kill a man in less than five seconds. Also, despite their double high BFQ, dogs run from lions, ALWAYS. Because they don't want to face those fearsome jaws.
