Thank you SO much for this video! I had a violet with a very long neck and had no idea what to do. I followed your instructions to the letter, and just removed the main plant from it's plastic bag this morning and it's happy, and blooming! I also started two new plants from the little crowns I removed, and they just came out of their bags today too - and look great!

I didn't know anything about violets or how to care for them. Mine had gotten leggy and had quit blooming. I followed your instructions about cutting off the long neck, and three months later, I'm looking at my amazing violet. I did get some fertilizer, and in the next few days it will have at least 30 blooms on it! I've never seen such a happy, healthy violet in my life. Thank you!

I am so very glad I found your video! I have my grandmother's african violets (one purple that is struggling and one pink that is just fabulous!) The violet that is struggling ended up breaking off of it's roots when I moved to my current apartment. I have been trying everything I could find to help it thrive. Today I just repotted the poor thing in fresh african violet soil in a new pot and am following your directions for bagging it. The root itself did not show any rot but I did not cut it and am thinking I may go back and do that. Thank you so much for this though. I will pop back at some point with an update as to how she is doing! I'm really hoping I can save her, she is one of the few thigns I have of my grandmother's (She passed in the late 90's and my mother who is amazing with plants had been caring for her. I, sadly, kill air plants. But I have been caring for them both for the last year and a half and I am heartened that they both are surviving! Here is the hope that I can have both of them thriving!

I want to thank you so much for your video. I have a now 40+ year-old African violet which I inherited from my Dad and I had no clue what to do with once it started to fade after about 20 years of my care which I guess is a miracle in itself? Anyway, it took some time (maybe a year?) but it is again blooming constantly and looks extremely happy. Again, thank you so very much.

Very informative. Thank you for posting this. I think my African violets are gone. I may have over-watered them. I had terra cotta pots, and only watered them once a week, but they sort of shriveled up and died a few months ago, and I've been trying to revive them. I think they're about done. I've had them for about 5 years, including two moves, so I kind of wanted to keep them, but I guess I wasn't careful enough.

I'm so happy to be able to give it a little rehab - you're the best! One question about putting the plant under a grow light: - Is it on a timer so the light turns on and off or will the plant be under lights 24/7? If the former, do you have a favorite schedule of lights off and on?

Repotted 12 African violets. After 5 days inside the plastic bags, over half have white mildew. All but 2 or 3 have leaves wilted to total softness. A disaster we repotted and put them in a rack southeast facing window. They got about 20 to 30 minutes of direct light. So sad. Figure we will lose them all. Taking them out of the bags. Trying to remove as many of leaves as possible, but not all.

Hi AVSA, thanks for this my neglected African Violet needs attention I think it is seven years old and I’ve suffered from AVnon-pot phobia, it’s actually embarrassing the length of its neck, bless it’s little heart flowers on and off. So my questions are about an older violet with good roots a small ish head and about a 3-4inch (in US language) about 9-10ish centimetres long neck which is curvy. Anyway do I pot root neck and all with crown on level?, do I chop the head off if so what length of stem attached to the crown is best?, if I chop the head is it possible to repot the root ball mass too? and is it possible to divide the neck into three cutting as in crown cutting, root ball and centre neck cutting? Thank you love African violets I have one at the moment because I’ve had many in the past and I know I have an addicition to African violets, having one is part of managing my addiction. Lol

When potting a violet that is not one of your own such as this, is it advisable to handle the violet and then place your hands in a large tub of soil that you will be using for other violets? Seems to me if the violet had possible tiny pests you just contaminated the entire tub of soil and run the risk of contaminating other violets you may pot with that soil.
