I think that the song is about a guy who is talking to an ex girlfriend and telling her that he is happy and successful and lives his life however he wants. Saying he wakes up every evening is him saying that he stays awake all night because he is a rock star who lives an unconventional life. He is up all night having a good time so he sleep during the day. He also says to her that she chose a conventional life with a day job and a traditional marriage and questions whether she is happy with that life or if she regrets that decision. He hopes that when she sees his face (the one with a big smile), either on television or on a magazine or just in passing, it makes her jealous and upset with her choices.
