Great review, I'm just about to take delivery of a second hand 2017 XLT 2.2 Auto model, little upgrade from my 2015 Ford Kuga. Always had my eye on the Everest and finally getting one.

Nice Duane, big upgrade on the fire ball kid.

Thanks for the feedback Johan. When did I say its a petrol? I mentioned later in the video that it can tow 3.5 tons if you watched the whole video. I know on the ford website it says FWD but this one is the AWD. Cheers.

Isnt this the 2wd? And the limited has 20s nt 21s. Nice one.
@Africasideways6 жыл бұрын
Some debate about that, said 4x4 on the key ring and not much wheel speel in front tyres.
@SKIKR6 жыл бұрын
If it had the terrain response dial then its a 4x4 else 4x2

Thanks for the review. I'm shopping for a 2nd hand one now. I was really hoping that the 2.2 also came out in AWD but only in RWD. It rode so well offroad it certainly fooled you with its impressive traction as a rear wheel drive in the dirt in Swellendam. I'm torn between the AWD of the 3.2 and the better economy of the 2.2 whilst still having good towing capability.
@Africasideways5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, yeah, that rwd had me fooled. Depends on what you are planning to do. If you are into regular off-roading i'd go for the 4x4, you don't want to be caught with your pants down. If its just towing and the occasional gravel road, the 2.2 is sufficient. I'd go for the 3.2 personally, much more fun to drive and not that much heavier on fuel. Less strain on engine. Got 10l per 100km with spirited driving.

@@Africasideways yup, I've made up my mind to go on the hunt for a 3.2L. It's better fuel consumption than my current '97 Pajero 2.8TDI that I've been using for the past 14 yrs now.
@Africasideways5 жыл бұрын
Ahh, that 2.8 Pajero is a classic, are you going to keep it? How's the engine been for reliability?
@seanfrench10295 жыл бұрын
@@Africasideways It's on over 450 000km now and the engine has had some work done like rings etc. Had the rings & pistons done at around 390k and I only replaced the turbo at 430k. Had niggles with glow plugs/injectors lately with a cold start but once it's warmed up its fine for the rest of the day. My wife and I love it. Very capable in the sand etc and not too big. Very comfy to travel with and a nice commuter too. If I could throw R50k at it to blow some new life into it plus new bushes in suspension it will be good for another 100k on the odometer. Our biggest schlep is that the only proper mechanic to service and work on it is a 45m in drive away from home. Services & repairs are a hassle and always includes about R500 for the 2 Uber trips. If I could get new engine for it I'd strongly consider keeping it but I don't think they're available anymore. For around town & short trips its fine but we want to do longer trips and need more peace of mind.

@@seanfrench1029 Hi Sean, thanks for the insights. That Pajero and the Prado 90 are real gems. 450k is excellent, and a 430k turbo is impressive, you must have looked after the vehicle. Ever run it on bio-fuel? Do you live in a rural area, in RSA?
@gerardmoerdyk97026 жыл бұрын
You make a BIG mistake, this is NOT a four (or all) wheel drive, it's rear wheel drive. The 4x4 model does have low range and does not come in XLT 2.2

You should test the fortuner 2.4 4x4 , I guess it would be a competitor to this one.

Niju James no way , the fortuner is far behind

Have not driven the new Tuner yet, but the new Hilux goes like stink. Not much in it between the two. I'd say Everest for drive-ability and the Tuner for cost of ownership. More extras standard on the ford for same price. Can't go wrong with either. Thanks for the support Bro, are you in Cape Town Mr James?

In these 2.2 liter engines which one is heavier in terms of weight, the everest or ranger ?
@Africasideways4 жыл бұрын
The everest is heavier, (extras seats and more body) you can feel it in the power to weight ratio/pull off the line. Not to say that its unpowered, the ranger is just a little sharper.
