The princely Malay exiles from maritime south east Asia who were brought to Cape Town during the dutch period, were literate and used a modified Arabic script called Jawi. When the switched to Afrikaans they modified their Jawi characters to suit the sounds present in Afrikaans. This writing later became known as Arabic Afrikaans, but it was in continuous use from the earliest times until well into the first decades of the 20th century. In fact Jawi writing is still in limited use in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Wel gedaan Meneer (well done sir). I appreciate the facts you chose, as they are some of the points which are still overlooked. 11th fact : there are generally three variants of the language; Kaaps (spoken in the Western Cape and usually by the Coloured community), Oosgreens (meaning eastern frontier where the Great Treak started, which is the standardised version of “whites”), and Garieps (which is spoken around the Gariep/ orange river by the Griquas and Namas).

Daar is natuurlik 'n band.

Thank you for this video! I enjoyed it. Can you please do a video of "Oude Ram Afrikaner" and the "Orlams Afrikaners". They were the first people to call themselves "Afrikaners". They were a clan that consisted of mixed-race descendants from indigenous Khoi and slaves from Madagascar, India, and Indonesia. Members of this mixed race are today sometimes Creole Africans, as well as Coloureds.

Your information is interesting and seems well researched. But the voice commentary is weak, and comes across as "flat". Perhaps someone else could do the commentary for you.

Afrikaans borrowed terms from SeTswana not the other way around, SeTswana as a language is older than Afrikaans.

@@anettesnyman1507 I never said there is no afrikaans person in another country. I said the numbers are not correct. Look at the statistics of those countries. This is the reason why you have to learn in english instead of afrikaans so that you can understand what I said in english

Ik hoorde een lied van die antwoord laatst. “Baruch es in jou oeg”. If I am not mistaken baruch is Jiddisch for blessing. Been making an effort to improve on Afrikaans. It’s pretty easy to be honest because it is so close to dutch “Drents”. My dutch, being from Amsterdam (Mokum in Jiddish) is riddled with Jiddisch. I was not surprised that the Dutch pretend not to see Afrikaans as a full/ real language. We did the same in Suriname. That is what colonialists/ oppressors do. I think it’s great that people come in contact with other languages. Like younger people like myself (40s) picked up Surinaams from Surinamese people in Holland and a lot of younger dutch people started incorporating a lot of Surinamese in their language. I think that is cool🤷🏼‍♂️👍 goeie nag
