I loved this. Every now and then we need a voice of reason so we don’t go to the natural hair sunken place. About these hair gimmicks I’ve notice something. East African women use Chebe powder, Chinese women use rice water and the inversion method was started in India. We’re focused on what they put on their HAIR but not what they EAT. Africa has the best/ most nutritious soil in the world. Those Chinese woman aren’t exposed the pesticides or GMO foods. Indians eat a lot of tumeric and curry which has curcumin that has been scientifically proven to be healthy for the body. So a lot of these woman need to take all the money they’re putting towards their hair and use it to buy healthier foods and start a healthier lifestyle. But that’s just my opinion

I’m a long haired natural now, thx to your tips. Especially the palm smoothing with the products. And I didn’t fall for the product junkie hype. I never stopped using local hair store products (Liv, hair grease, etc) bc of you. My hair is flourishing. And I still don’t use coconut oil 🤣

My mom still wears crochet braids. I have been crocheting her hair for about 2, maybe 3 years. Since I've been doing her hair, I've been telling her that she needs to give it a break between installs, but she refuses. The day it comes out, is the day she got not a new install. She has long natural hair, but it's very fine. The last time I did her hair, I noticed significant breakage around her edges. Like, BIG. Like, a hole. She was already thinning because of her thyroid. I told her we need to stop, and that she needs to focus on wearing her natural hair, and that I could help her. She said no. That she's either going to wear a wig or if she is going to wear her natural hair, she's relaxing it. (The relaxer was also breaking her hair off, through bad maintenance and over processing. This is the first time in my life that I have ever seen her hair below her shoulders, and she wants to fuck it up with going back to a relaxer) I don't know what to do. If I don't do her hair, she's going to relax and go back to the short, broken off splintered mess that she was in 3 years ago. Sometimes, you just gotta let some people go bald.

Love you guys! So glad to see y'all and receive the HONEST knowledge, passion and expertise about natural hair! I scaled down my hair products/regimen and increased my water intake and I've been seeing rapid growth and better overall hair health. I'm 4C and my go-to products are now coconut blue magic grease, jojoba oil, infusium, mane, tail and body shampoo and conditioner. That's it.

I use coconut oil and Shea Moisture JBCO. They work for me, but I'm not loc'd. The key is to use hydrogenated no smell coconut oil.

I still love my coconut oil but I give it a break during the fall and winter. Castor oil has a much stronger scent than coconut oil but I use both. I just don't go heavy handed with them.🤷🏾💗💗💗

You know what, people don't want to pay for quality and I find that when people of color do business with other people of color, they often short change or make their expectations higher than they would if they went somewhere else and I don't get that. I'll say it once and I'll say it again, if you get good service, pay for that. I don't go to the salon often (usually for a chemical service or if I need a treatment I just don't feel comfortable or can't do myself at home) and I go to a salon that charges on the European scale (Ie., they charge based on the years and knowledge of the stylist). My stylist is a master stylist so when I go to her and leave her chair, I am always 120% happy with my service and as such i pay master stylist pricing. My thing is, if you go to a salon and the stylist is knowledgeable and you get the service you requested and it was done promptly and accurately, pay the fee, tip at least 20%, and go about your business.

Southern Dreams - I’ve heard rice water helps retain length but not sure about it causing faster growth. I’m not sure what onion juice does. I’ve learned not to try any of the trends.
