I want you all to notice how her fine hair looks very thin and see-thru as when it's laid out against the towel but when I smooth and gather the hair you can see that it's not really thinning at all (except at the ends). This is why I don't like the "white cape - see-thru" test to determine where to cut hair. It's not very accurate at all and everyone's hair presents empty and negative space differently depending on texture and density. This is why my push back test is way more reliable of a way to see the amount of thinning in hair. I’m at a point in my life where I no longer stress over split ends, fairy knots or uneven hair, as long as I have a full head of hair that looks and feels good I’m happy.
@Mande30

I don’t stress over these things, however, I do want to minimize them. Too many split ends and fairy knots will prevent hair from progressing. A lot of people are floating around with damage that looks good. The main reason that their hair doesn’t progress.

Same! But I also don't stress over trimming it for same reasons. Life is too short.

Not caring for split ends and knots and “full head of hair” don’t match. Hair that has these things are unhealthy and likely to travel up the root and break off. Thinning is imminent

You are doing a good job of keeping up with the little hiccups. Being older and having been natural my whole life except for trying perms and relaxers as a teenager. I can say that as we get older we have to change our hair routine, because sometimes our hair requires more of one thing and less of another.

So happy to see this post🥳🥳🥳 I been binge watching so many trim videos it's crazy Edit: After watching the whole video, it does give me hope for my fine hair. I believe I've experienced consistent splits and/or thinning maybe my whole natural hair journey so it's never really left my shoulders😂.I started to think that growing long hair with fine strands was unrealistic. Buy maybe with more consistency and care, I can see some change.

I have fine hair with good density (thick at the bottom and thin ends) but it doesn't matter how experienced the stylist is they all seem to cut too much off for a trim. Some insist on cutting the whole head to the same length when my whole head is different lengths and it's not being worn loose as a style in itself. If so frustrating. If I could travel from London to UK just for your service, I would.

Just a consideration…since she gets her flat twists often..a blow out before the twists might have helped you catch the few splits earlier..then that might have saved at least an inch of hair. To each his or her own, but cutting off a single strand knot can be beneficial for the entire head of hair. Retired stylist* over all excellent work!

I like your perspective evaluating her hair for the last 18months. The fact that her hair has a tendency to have thinning at the ends and reevaluating trimming her hair every 6 months is great. Also mentioning that maybe her hair needs more finger detangling, and less brush detangling was on point. I actually was going to pose that question to you and see if that may be the problem. I have determined that my hair is best suited for finger detangling only. On another note, can anyone decipher what are those hand signals she is doing from 19:00-19:16? I had to rewind 2x just to catch it.

I know you don’t believe in unnecessary treatment but for someone wit her type of hair that seems to get fragile quickly, won’t treatments be beneficial?

Agree. I have hair like this. The only way to see any real growth is through deep conditioning and protein. Since Narada likes Aphogee, I recommend (and love!) their Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer (leave in) and/ or the 2 Min Reconstructor (conditioner).

Has she ruled out systemic factors like vitamin deficiency, anemia, or thyroid/hormonal issues? The ends being mostly in tact makes me think it isn't related to breakage.

If it was something out of the norm for her then i would have her seek medical assessment but i think we have to realize that hair doesn't grow out perfectly perfect and it's not always due to health deficiency. Health issues wouldn't affect her ends the way that it has. That seems to be more mechanical damage on my part.

@@AfrikanHairGodmy hair is shorter but it was doing this too for years and my hair was not growing. I know it's not the best but I go through a couple times a week and individually cut those split ends completely off. Some times I will see that they are split more than half way, some like a Christmas tree. But since I've been doing this for over a year it's grown back thicker. Before I use to heavily focus on my front because I could pull it down and see it. Now when I pull it down it's so healthy. These days I've been trying to do the same with the back but i can't see it so I can only rely on feeling and the thin ends when I put it in twists. Oh yeah and water and grease of course!

Hi Narada I love your hair care. Her hair definitely grew alot. I wanted to ask something, I know you mentioned that she barely does anything to her hair. What could be reason for why her ends thinned out at the ends? She barely wears it out and she is consistent with her hair care. What can we do to avoid thinning ends like this? In order to prevent losing inches because hair is really short and Im trying to grow it out.
@AfrikanHairGod

I think it's a matter of mechanical damage on my part. Moving too quickly thru her hair and not taking enough time. Now that her hair is longer, her hair is more prone to damage so my approach needs to be adjusted

How often are people washing and conditioning hair with braids? Four weeks sounds like a long time and if you’re using hair grease seems like one might need a clarifying shampoo during that 4 weeks. What are people calling damage?

Is there any way that her getting her hair in a pin up style repetitively would be the cause of some of the thinning? Did you see any correlation between where hair pins would go and where the thinning occurred?
@AfrikanHairGod
@AfrikanHairGod 9 ай бұрын
No her hair is always pinned to the back which is where her hair is the thickest and fullest. The style wouldn't cause any problem area near the top. It's not styling it's seems like a natural occurrence and it's not problematic. I just told her so that she's aware because most people wouldn't

My hair looks and behaved just like hers. The longer it got, it appeared thinner no matter how often I trimmed. I did press it once every 2 months. Once I started Protien treatments , it helped a lot. Her hair from your description is Fine and Low Porosity retaining moisture. I am High Poroosity w/ Fine hair. May I suggest protien treatments to smooth the cuticles and strengthen the hair for length retention and health. Additionally, check the oils and products she uses between visits. I appreciate the care and attention you provide your clients. Well done Sir.

Narada, I have 2 questions about ends. 1) Do you have experience with dyed natural hair that only needs a trim every 6 months? (Is that even possible?). And 2) Are poofy ends normal and can they be healthy? My ends have always been poofy even as a kid, even when freshly trimmed. I would watch a whole video on naturally poofy ends.
