The way you put me on to that Denman D38! I thought the amount of shedding I had was normal until I got the denman. 😢 I was pulling my hair out with the the tangle teezer. My hair is fine medium density and I feel like it was snagging everywhere no matter the section. I keep up with my trims so I thought I just had to be me. I got the denman D38 Because of your recommendation and I was FLOORED. No hair on brush. Just detangled like it was supposed to. THANK YOU!’❤❤❤

All I can say is, the Denman D38 has been a lifechanger for detanlging my son's hair. That child went from whining and crying during detangling and styling sessions to humming, singing, and talkingg smack to his brother since I switched to the D38. At this point, the only way I'd replace the D38 is for a new one when it wears out. Thanks, Narada, for recommending the D38!

I have the petite version of the D38 and it is the best brush/tool I’ve ever used. And I’ve tried the FL brush, different types of tangle tweezers, the wide tooth to medium tooth to small tooth combs method, kazmaleje brush, and the unbrush. Nothing has gotten my hair as thoroughly detangled faster with no breakage and minimal shedding.

Wow wow wow! I had to come back and thank you! I have been using the Tangle teezer since I took my dreads out 2 years ago. I just bought the denman you use in your clients while keeping in mind the technique you use. I had such a hard time with the Tangle teezer, but with the denman? It glides through my hair like butter! I have 4a high density hair with medium stands. One of my children has long type 2 waves worth fine strands and high density as well. It took some effort to get the Tangle teezer through his tangled as well, but the denman? Again, like butter! This is such a blessing! It makes a world of difference! I thought we needed a haircut, but we just needed a different brush 😂 Thank you!

I just bought the Denman D38, sadly the bristles are too stiff for my hair. The Thick and Curly Tangle Teezer is unmatched for the moment. The Tangle teezer you used in the video didn't work for me either. There are several types and sizes of Tangle teezer with and without handles. Depending on the version, the stiffness, size and number of bristles will be different. This particular one is not really for textured hair.

I agree with what you've said on it working better for straighter hair. It works to push tangles and shed hair down from the root. But that presents a problem for curly and coily hair since the ends bear the brunt of the stress. Also, I can see where you're coming from with the d38. I'll have to keep that in mind when I start using mine.

I had that initial experience with the denman too! But as I used it a bit more and unintentionally soaked it in soapy water 😂 it naturally loosens the bristles and I like it a lot now. I like the tangle teezer as well but I heard overtime it causes split ends(I already have issues with it) so I'm gonna try the denman and get used to it. There's certain characteristics on brushes that can cause breakage on natural hair types and as he explained in the video the tangle teezer bristles and layout can be a culprit. If the brush isn't giving you splits then you've found the one but I personally had to be honest with myself and stop using it.

I'm glad to have a stylist perspective on these brushes because I have both and use them together! I consider the Kazmaleje a step up from finger detangling, and then I like to follow it with the tangle teezer for a thorough detangle and shed hair removal. But if that D38 can get the job done in 1 device, I'm gonna have to give it a whirl.

I understand why you dislike product reviews. I will admit that I am not a fan of product reviews in general, but your reviews have special value to me. I know that the results are going to be the results of proper technique on hair in the appropriate condition and backed by your experience and commitment to research. I know that your opinion comes from interest in us, not yourself. Heck, you even acknowledge your own biases! Let me tell you, few to none of these sponsored product reviewers do that. I don't trust these other reviewers because they are obsessed with saying something nice. They will finesse finesse finesse off camera and then come back with a hot mess fro, too much makeup, and too little clothes on, compensating for a bad wash n' go, going "I love this!" That's why I unsubscribe from them gradually over time as I get bored of all the product placement. I have used the tangle teezer for years and I agree with your critique. The tangle teezer got me at first because I detangled my roommate and best friend's hair in less than 30 seconds, but when it came to my own hair, I was just as overwhelmed detangling my hair as always. The grip is awful; they only made one with a handle because people kept asking for it. Unpopular opinion but the tangle teezer was not designed for us. The designer never envisioned the tangle teezer would need the kind of leverage that comes with a handle. Being real, it was not made for us. I want to try the Denman paddle brush, I used to use the Denman classic dressing brush but the rubber base that holds the teeth kept coming out stuck in my hair. I was afraid I was going to kill myself on accident with that thing one day. 🤣 Thank you for the honest review and I understand and support you on your vision for a product-review-free channel on KZbin. Create the content that makes you happy. I will keep watching! 🥰

Nice review. I have all three brushes. I don't use the kazmalege because it's entirely too slippery, heavy, and no flexibility. The D38 is too wide, the handle is way too slippery for me, and I don't remember whether or not too much hair came out. My daughter currently uses it, and says the same about the handle, and she said one of the teeth came out of it. The tangle teezer is the only one that stays in my hand although it feels a little slippery but, it detangles very well, and light weight. However, when using it vertically it feels more awkward, so I recently purchased the one without a handle to see if it's more comfortable in my hand. Hopefully it'll work.

The Unbrush is exactly like the Curl Keeper brush that folks were raving about a couple years back (it used to cost over $20). Back when House of Beauty was in business, I bought an exact replica of those two called the "Philips Flexx Brush" for only $8. Now, neither brush are sold anywhere; so annoyed I threw my Philips brush away 😩. It was so easy to use and so easy to clean because it was vented rather than cushioned. Anyhow, it's funny seeing a brush with the same design be considered "New" on social media and be sold for over $20 just like every other knock off of originals (e.g EZ detangler). I just got the D38. It better be worth the $25 I spent 🙏🏾 I have a Wet Brush, but it's been getting on my nerves because the ball tips keep snagging on my ends. My ends are constantly a mess and that 'forced bunching' sounds really familiar. Sometimes I intentionally use the TT to get all the knots, clumps and tangles to the end/tips of the section and then I finger-detangle again and reading that back I've just realised how silly that sounds. When I first went natural in late 2018, I bought an early, non-handle Tangle Teezer which I did not like at all. Switched to another brand of detangler which I saw recommended on a KZbin channel (don’t remember the name right now) and I used it for a few years, bought several of the over that time. When I needed to replace the last one, it wasn’t available on Amazon, so I went to an Ulta looking for a replacement (didn’t have time to have one sent and since I was dealing with my OG Tangle Teezer in the meantime). At Ulta, I found the Denman D38! Nirvana! BTW, I bought the Tangle Teezer reviewed here in the same trip, but it is still in the box. I may try it one day but for now I’m a D38 devotee.

I have a brush similar to the tangle teaser, it’s a kiss shampoo detangler/shampoo brush. I picked it up locally, it was an item they placed near the checkout to tempt you as you wait to check out. It’s shaped wider like a paddle brush and has those two tiered teeth. I like that once detangled, I can brush straight through without resistance but what I don’t like about the brush is that some shed hairs collect and are concentrated on the edge (longest part of the brush). Not sure if it’s technique, the brush or a combination of both. I notice you hold the brush vertically. I tend to hold it horizontally and at a slight angle as I’m brushing through. I would love a brush with longer bristles all the same length and somehow seamless where there’s no area where the cushioning and housing of the bristles can snag, pinch, or potentially break the hair.

I’ve never had a problem with it slipping out of my hand while detangling in the shower. I also have bigger hands (I’m tall) so maybe that’s why it’s comfortable for me. Low key it did look like you got through the hair easily when you followed up with a different tool after the Kazmaleje even though you felt like it might not have detangled well. No lie tho… I bought it for an old friend and she loved it too BUT she dropped it in her tub and it cracked the tub lol. I’ll look into ordering that denman one you like though!hopefully it doesn’t rip through my hair like the original 😩

I need the denman but rn I would probably get the “petite d38 brush” until then I’m using the Diane no knot detangler. It’s like long bristles in square shape like the denman but handle like the tangle teezer.

@AfricanHairGod. Ok I just used the Denman D38 to detangle after shampooing w conditioner in. It is really good! I used the Felicia brush briefly & felt I was losing too much hair. Switched to the Philips Flexxi/ Unbrush & liked it much better. Tried a Tangle Teaser & put that right back down before even finishing one section (too much tugging/ couldn’t get through my hair). Purchased the Denman after your reviews once the Philips brush cracked. After one use the detangling ease is definitely there. I loss less hair. The handle could definitely be improved, but holding it by the back is an easy alternative. If you’re on the fence, it’s worth a try. So far I’d rank them D38, Flexxi. I’d skip the rest. Can’t wait until you try the Unbrush. Thanks for the recommendation!!!

@AfricanHairGod ok I have an update. I use the D38 to detangle wet hair in the shower with conditioner. Over time now, I’ve found that this brush pulls/stretches the hair a bit too much when soaking wet & was causing breakage. I was loosing more hair than usual. I switched to the true Unbrush & I thought the Phillips Flexxi/ Curl Keeper and the Unbrush were the same but they are NOT. The Flexxi/Curl Keeper allows water to enter the handle from the back of the brush which will mold over time. The Unbrush is sealed all around with no areas to accumulate mold. The spacing of the bristles are also a bit different between the two. I like both of the them for soaking wet or damp detangling much better than the D38. For slightly wet /spray bottle the D38 works. So now my vote is Unbrush, Curl Keeper, D38 for the way I use them. This may be why your thoughts differ as well since you seem to use them on less wet hair.

They have different versions of the tangle teezer. I'm curious about the one for fine and fragile hair, it doesn't have a handle. So I wonder if that may work. I need something that will get all my shedded hair. My hair is not high density but it's medium density and very coily.

I have a Denman which I like, I'm not sure which number Denman it is, but I've modified mine and removed two vertical rows of teeth. I also have used this newer Tangle Teaser and yes, it gets through my hair but I sense that it's doing damage. I think it has too many teeth for my fine, non-silky, tightly coiled hair. With both, I i have to hold them by the head and not by the handle to get through my hair successfully and not have the brushes slip out of my hand. ETA: I think my Denman is the skinnier one, the D3.

I have all 3 and your assessments are spot on👌🏾Tangle teeer was my tried n true, but low key thought it was damaging my hair. The Kazmalajee is ok big sections but always have to use something else to really detangle. D38 is second to none. I love it! My only complaint is that when I use it in wet hair I have to let it drain for a couple days. 🫤

I was just using the Tangle Teezer brush earlier today and tried working through sections just a smidge bigger than yours and unfortunately the bristles just bent and slid over the hair. I've had the brush for a few months so maybe it's time to replace it, but I had to admit to myself that it's time to upgrade to something better. It has long been my favorite detangling brush, especially when my hair was shorter, but the different sized bristles, slick handle, and too soft bristles after only a few uses has made my detangling a chore. My hair strands are really fine and I've grown concerned that the bristles may be contributing to the breakage at my roots, no matter how gentle I brush.

I don’t think that type of tangle teezer has professionals in mind. It’s great in the shower while detangling with conditioner on. I find D38 can be tricky to use on myself but it’s very easy when using it on someone else.

I HATE the Kazmalage brush. Another content creator raved about it a few years ago, and I bought it. It's so heavy and too difficult for my hands to hold properly. The unbrush has been my boo for awhile now....that and my wide tooth comb.

I love my Kazmalaje brush. It works great for detangling my hair when I prepoo. But I could see how it would not work with multiple heads. I have the set (brush, comb and pick). I like the comb and the pick is meh. The only other brush I have used is the EZ Detangler brush (w/ and w/o the little bar you can clip in). That brush was terrible for me, it ripped my hair out each time and also was kinda flimsy at the same time. I finger detangled until I tried Kazmalaje.

I almost choked myself out laughing when you said the kazmaleje brush is heavy, every time I drop it in the shower, my life flashes before my eyes! I really use it when I am rinsing out my conditioner, I don't have dense hair so maybe that's why it works for me. But yeah that brush is a brick

I don’t like either of those brushes. I wanted to like the kazmalaje but no. Too heavy, doesn’t actually do a good job. The tangle teezer was the same deal from like 2015 just with a handle this time. BUT I got an unbrush knockoff from the beauty supply store and I feel like it’s better than the original. It’s wider and one solid piece and double sided.

The handle and the size of the tangle teezer is why I never jumped to buy it. it looked uncomfortable to hold, and I was always kind of worried it wouldn't be large enough to work through sizeable sections because I have a lot of hair... I'm surprised people think it causes split ends though, I never expected it the way people rave about it. Your first impression of the kazmaleje is hilarious, but I always felt that it was more like a wide-tooth comb as well, maybe if you don't have a lot of hair... my best friend loves it, but I always hated wide tooth combs so I can't see myself liking the Kazmaleje at all. I don't blame you for not feeling inspired because the d38 is such a perfect brush already? I only wish it had longer bristles by a few mm, just to get through even bigger sections, but that might be asking for a lot. I am actually interested in the unbrush though, I'm looking for a brush for my younger sibling and I can't trust them to clean out the D38 well enough at all, I've let them mine a couple of times and it never comes back nicely 🤣

@@LoXena That's great to hear! Is it hard to hold when you're using with product or wet hands? I was always worried that the lack of a handle and the smooth appearance made the pod-shapd tangle teezers hard to hold as well from so much slip 😮 I also didnt know the tangle teezer had different sizes and bristles dependingn on the brush (i just saw ur other comment coming back to this video haha)

That Kazmaleje Brush looks ridiculous. That can't for us, lol. Denman D38 brush is the most universal brush for curly/wavy/kinky hair. Everything else is pretty much a gimmick, I will stick to the brand who know wtf they are doing.

The irony is that the kazmaleje brush was made with kinky hair in mind, which is why I had such high hopes for it. Maybe my hair is too coily for it or something? It seemed to work better on hair types that don’t have a defined pattern, like that kinky straight type of hair so idk 😭

My thoughts on the tangle teezer (Tigher curls than the client, my density and strand size looks normal to me): PROS: 1. I loved it when i first got it since it was a step up from the paddle brushes with the ball tips and wide tooth combs (which break my hair or detangle poorly😅). 2. Its soft bristles kind of bend and glide past tangles. When this happens, I've learnt to put the brush down and work with my fingers. 3. Doesn't tug at the scalp since the bristles are so soft. 4. Comes in cute colours (lol) 5. Its much faster than finger detangling or using a wide tooth comb in my experience. CONS: 1. Youre right about the size. It takes so long to detangle since i have to work in small sections 2. Not ergonomic at all. I have to hold the brush by its head or it'll slip 3. Their other naturally curly brush for 3c to 4c hair is a nightmare to use. The firmer bristles tug on the scalp more😭 if youre tender headed, steer clear of this version. Anyway, im hoping to try the denman d38 since i like that it doesn't have those annoying little ball tips that break my hair off😅
