I was a little girl and I lovvvved it and still do! My aunt bought me a very nice record player when i was 2 in 1962 and i owned all kinds of 45's and 78's and would sing and dance to all the tunes through the 60's. I could see my shadow on the wall as I danced lol. Ive literally been a lifetime fan of music all of my life. I grew up in the Redondo Beach area and can remember when the Beach Boys hit the scene. Im also a longtime fan of American Bandstand and Dick Clark. They just dont make 'em like they used to!

@@barbarapope349 I got to meet his daughter Carnie Wilson at a Nordstrom store back in '96 '97 where I managed the cosmetic department in Indianapolis. You talk about down to earth and very kind. Her best friend lives in the burbs of Indy, and Carnie flew in to be in her wedding. It was fun to reminisce with her all about Brian and those boys and that music and that beach as well. We ended up talking for about 30 minutes. Shes a sweetheart

The guys actually dance, and they're dressed up and not attacking the girls. I really wish I had the privilege to be alive then. Some amazing times from the 50s-80s!! Unfortunately for me I wasn't born until 81, so I didn't really start to experience things until it was almost the 90s... but I always say I wish I was born when my Dad and his siblings were, times were simple, people actually talked to each other and weren't glued to electronic devices, and my goodness some of the greatest legends came out of those decades!! 💜💜💖💖

I grew up in Philly so I watched bandstand every day. Graduated hs in 1965. Philly was truly a magical music city in those days. The folk festival, jazz clubs, R&B, Jerry Blavat and doo wop. WHAT and WDAS, WFIL in its glory days, WMMR in the late 60s. What a wonderful time for music.

Be My Baby is one of my favorite classic songs ever! The song is timeless & transcends generations. Just a feel good song with a shelf life most music from today don't possess. Waning is right! Lol the kids really seem to just be going through the motions here with this humdrum line dance that they're doing. The camera work doesn't help either. Those long shots seem like the cameraman went on a quick smoke break and forgot to signal the other camera to start shooting from another angle. Lol maybe this is all a result of knowing that the show is moving west soon? I wonder if the 2 young ladies at the beginning are still around and if they ever saw this. Someone should try to find them. Aaron, I love when you and Jeff drop videos on the same day. It's like I'm spending my day transcending back in time. Great job as always!

Thank you Kevin and I was thinking the same thing. It was like hey, you’re dancing to one of the greatest songs of all time, maybe a little more energy. Then again, maybe they were feeling down because it was almost over in Philly or maybe this was the 3rd or 4th show in a row they had taped or maybe all of the above. Plus this song had probably been playing non-stop since it hit the charts about 4 months ago and maybe, at that time, they were over it. Anyways thank you for the comment. Sometimes it is just so nice to go back with wonderful memories. I was lucky enough to get 4 tickets to get on American Bandstand. It was in the month of August and it was a great experience with my friends. Unfortunately Dick Clark was not there but still, we got to be on TV for a short while. A really great memory indeed and so happy to have gotten there before he went to California. That memory I do not care for. Sorry California, but East Coast Bandstand Dancers were the BEST!!

Born in 1961 so I would've been 3 years old when this aired on American Band Stand. I remember getting snowed in the winter of 1968. I got a farm set and all the town kids had to go to school, but the country kids were snowed in. We missed two weeks of school. Our truck driver on our farm was dating a twin known for her skill to do hair. My mom had her come over and do the "flip." They put huge rollers in your hair at the ends and you went to bed like that. All those hairstyles involved rollers worn all night. Even the bee-hive was teased on top of your head, wrapped when you went to bed. I remember her playing these Rock n Roll 45's and letting us wear her white lipstick.

Wow!! That was when Bandstand was still in Philly. I remember even some of the dancers were even celebreties and getting fan mail. It was aired from West Philadelphia then. That area also had a place called "The Arena". I was about ten years old then. Our neighbors took me there to see the Ice Capades. My, how the times have flown by.

Ah, the Calypso. I recall seeing them do that in the ‘57 Christmas episode. I don’t recall seeing the AB dancers doing it after the move to Hollywood. Maybe it was on its ways out or maybe it was more of a Philadelphia area dance? And Barbara Warchol’s hair, even for this time period, is something to behold!!! :)

@@YCDTI I agree...I think the "Chalypso" (combination of the Cha-Cha & Calypso) was definitely a Philadelphia thing...By '63 the dance had dwindled down (or up depending on one's taste) to what we see here. (Regarding Hal Blaine, I love this quote from "Variety" magazine: "In the end it may be easier to list the musicians he didn’t support during his years of work...") More than 35, 000 recordings and some 600 singles...The man truly was one of the most significant contributors to the world of Rock & Roll. May he rest well in Christ's peace. I read it in one of the comments further on for honestly, I wouldn’t have known myself, although it did look so much like the Cha-Cha! You can read further down on another comment here to get more information on this dance but they said it was a Philadelphia thing & may have been on the way “out” someone else mentioned, for they said this dance seemed to die out shortly thereafter. I wanted to help you out & try to answer your question , when I saw someone else commenting on this dance! Take care! 🎵

I love how they dance (almost a bit like line dancing). I like the way the girls dance...nice foot movement and body. Good looking girls. I'm 70 now but as a 14 year old back then I watch AB almost all the time. Air date here was Jan. 4, 1964 and in just 4 weeks a new sound was coming that changed everything.

Love it..the line dance got a little sophisticated a long the way I was 6 yo in 1964 remember watching with my older siblings basically learned to dance by watching bandstand The Ronnetts the best girl group ever..The song is a favorite Noone sound like Ronnie Spector ...I grew up in Texas this song played alot on KRLD - KLIF radio
