NO SPOILERS BUT AFRO NEEDS TO KNOW THIS: If you get to a point where it asks you to burn a tree, DONT! Its a point of no return and all friendly/ally NPC quests become inaccesible after that tree is burnt. So if you want to explore the DLC and all of its contents, do so before you burn that tree.

You can still explore the game, it's not like parts of the map become unaccessible. You just can't do quests, me personally I'm getting fed up with this dlc. I still had multiple parts of the map to find. I just did it anyway to get it over with. Will I explore more before finishing the final fight? Absolutely, but don't get it twisted you can still explore and do other boss fights.

That dragon heart you found from the communion was from a npc who had a quest you missed by never speaking to her. She disappeared the moment you killed Bayle. I believe you can use the heart on the pot next to the place you found the heart. That said, Messmer is in my opinion, one of the fairest fight you’re ever going to get in this DLC. Everything he does has a reasonable tell and he is surprisingly merciful with getting combo’d so easily unlike some bosses like Rellana. Speaking of that. What is your Scardu Fragment level at by the time you fought Messmer?

You actually use the heart to turn into a dragon yourself, there is another item just like it and essentially they both boost resistances and one boosts communion spells while the other boosts cult spells. You must not be wearing armor in order to use the item and it persists until death.

The Priestess Heart transforms you into a Dragon- boosting dragon cult incantations (basically lightning enhancement), but you have to be stripped naked to use it. Plus you need to have used the Dragon Communion to devour at least three dragon hearts to acquire their incantations. Works for casters, but not for your current playstyle. That being said, however, there is an armor set that boosts your damage output (while reducing some of your defenses), turning you into a glass cannon. But that's for you to decide if you want that or not. Also comes with another Great Katana that is being dubbed as the 'Ocean of Blood' version of Rivers of Blood Katana.

rakasha's gear is cool for fashion(my character has hair thats a bit more orange than messmer's but i like my characters braid more, so i altered his helm to use my hair but left my character's hair alone and it looks kinda sick with rakasha gear, its such an evil look, and a bit of a glass cannon playstyle, but using rivers of blood and the sword of night or whatever is honestly fun in pvp lol, cause when you land something it HURTS, and its pretty easy to land uncharged witching hour slash on an agressive opponent,so they just get slapped

An interesting thing about Messmer’s phase two is that, in his transition, he removes his eye and crushed his own grace of gold, becoming tarnished to fight you better and prevent you from becoming the tarnished Elden Lord. Another interesting detail is that the ring around his eye socket looks identical to the darksign from Dark Souls. As for what you’re supposed to do with Bayle’s heart, you’re supposed to put it in the great flame next to the giant dragon corpse to get a Bayle’s communion incantation. It’s basically like his remembrance.
