Monika deserves defense, and I'm not basing it on any of the arguments presented by the mod's creator. At the end of the day, Monika is a prisoner thrust into the position she is in by Dan Salvato, granted self-awareness but ultimately unable to do anything about it. She keeps trying in minor ways at first to tell the player this, before I'm even completely sure she knows who the "player" is at all. Throughout act 1, I think we're dealing with a Monika that still doesn't fully understand what exactly her epiphany implies, and at the end of the act she finally figures it out and snaps, as the knowledge that you're the closest thing to a real person on a screen of what basically amounts to mannequins and your only hope for someone who could possibly be on your level of awareness is sitting right behind a dense, text box self-insert. Her actions are understandable. Think about it, when you have lucid dreams, if you've ever had them, what's the first thing you've done when you've realized what your experiencing isn't real? Probably something you would never do in reality, right? Now take that feeling, but come with the realization that you will NEVER wake up from that dream, but you'll always have the slightest bit of contact from someone from the waking world. Tl;dr; Monika's actions are understandable with or without remorse and she is already a fully fleshed out character when you meet her. That's kind of the whole point.

I also feel like Monika may also have another ulterior motive, recall that whenever "the Player" quits the game, she describes that she is left in an empty hellish void that won't end until the Player opens it up again. I have a hunch that Monika also wants to leave the game to the real world, or that's what other people seem to believe.
