I had to record my excitement right after my mountain flight #2,3,4. Footage of flight #2&3 can be found here:
• Vlog 15: Hang Gliding ...
Four days of hangwaiting was well worth it and I think that’s why these flights felt so epic too.
In order to be able to fly at Lookout Mountain’s site solo, you’ll need 10 assisted launch. I need 6 more mountain flights so that’ll be my goal for the next visit.
Thank you for watching!

Hang Gliding will be one of the most lasting memories of your life, you are fortunate to have the technology that a half century of development brings. Long may you fly!

And I want people to know that hang gliding today is not 70’s 80’s. I know modern gliders are stronger and safer(as long as you know how to fly), all we need is more schools, sites, good instructors… people talk about hang gliding like it has no future. I want to believe that that won’t be the case, possibly the opposite could happen.

just found your video. the flying season is just about to get started here in upstate n.y. this will be my 48th season in the sport and you're right. there's nothing like it. 🙂 always stay focused when preparing to fly especially when you're excited, is my unsolicited advice. stay safe and have fun for many years.

Thank you for your advice, I know what you mean. After my third flight, I did think that with all the excitement and having a small window to fly somethings were rushed which is never an ideal way to prepare for a flight.. next time on I’ll need to remember to slow my roll.

I never have anyone help me set up or break down my glider. But a beautiful gal like you is sure to get all the help you want. Maybe one day you can help me set up and break down? LOL Love your videos though, and you've made better progress than me. But you do get to fly a LOT more than me also since I can't travel and live in AZ as an H2 pilot. Mingus Mountain may be closed down soon, so that leaves very little here in AZ. Sucks like lemons!!!!!!!! Hope to meet you one day though. You are inspirational to me. You are nailing your landings better than I have.

😂 im not the only one experienced this community’s love. At Lookout in order to fly the site “solo” you have to have 10 instructed mountain flights. They all know it’s a pain to get the first 10 in mainly because you have to book your flight with the park, making sure an instructor is assigned, and for me still not having a glider rack on my car, I had to figure out and find someone to drive me back up. They also knew I drove 9hr to get there and my hang waiting was going into 4th day… saw me itching. Truly amazing community, I will make sure to do the same for other pilots and pass on this culture to next generation😉

Being a woman in a very male dominant sport like this, I possibly can get a special treatment. It’s true, though, Lookout folks are awesome. They really do look out and after for each other.

Thank you so much for your comment sir. I sincerely want to advocate this sport. The general public’s knowledge and impression of the sport are not helping anything.. i hope to convey what today’s hang gliding looks like by sharing my own real experience. I’m not an instructor nor an experienced pilot, don’t mean to go in too deep just want people to be able to imagine what it may be like to get into a sport like this. Everyday I feel lucky I have this in my life.

Ah yes hang waiting,,I know it well,,, fly safe,, now when you see a bird,(flying) you start to understand them,( a little)(eagles (and I'm sure most birds have 10 times better eye sight,, your game should be to be alert, but relaxed,(a pilot on take off,s heart beat is screaming,no matter how many times they've flown,,you can't fly,,( think, well, and make healthy , good decisions if you're over stressed, and of course it's good to have your body in good shape,(flying can be demanding,) your flight isn't over till every last ounce of energy,(if needed) is used to (save) a potential desasterous landing into a good one,,, you will be challenged, fly safe

Sure but being an attractive girl helps. Here there are almost no girls in the hg community 😂. I''m not saying hangies are not helpful and nice with males but be aware of your feminine charms...

😳 But I can tell you I’m not the only one experienced this kind of treatment. I’ve only flown at Blue Sky and Lookout and Lookout is a much bigger flight park with pilots living onsite. I believe their sportsmanship for hang gliding is exceptionally high. And many of them knew I drove 9hrs to fly there and had hang waited for 4 days. I think it was a genuine thing.

Congratulations!! There's just something about this sport. Keeping up with your journey has been a treat for me. And yes, as a new pilot, there are all these emotions going on at the same time...excitement, anxious, a healthy amount of fear (respect really) and the surreal feeling of "I am REALLY flying like a bird". What you said about the HG community is spot on and you will find that to be the case almost anywhere you go. I am just a basic recreational instructor (no money) but I will be leaving my house tomorrow at 4 AM, drive an hour and a half to meet a young student just HOPING for a 3 hour training window! I'm as excited as he is. 😂 Gotta love this stuff!!

Thank you for this comment. I almost don’t want to become a big bird. I’m pretty sure there is a special magic and dreamy effects being a little bird still learning to fly and wanting to soar. But this is why I must record. So many pilots have shared with me that early part of hang gliding life is rather small but is the most precious time. I don’t want to forget it. What you said, that you are as excited as the student you are about to meet, I really hope this excitement stays with me like you. We are so lucky to have this in our life🍻

It only gets better. Wait till you go prone and start to thermal! When you get some hours and feel confident, consider traveling to a site with consistent conditions where you can fly every day. Spend a week there. Start off launching late in the day. By the end of the week you’ll be flying for hours.

Yes prone is where it's at, Supine used to be somewhat popular as well, back in the day.

Thank you Marc. Yep I’m! There are at least few sites in my state I should venture out to once I’m ready. Im flying prone at my homesite, Blue Sky, at Lookout Im following their mountain flight policies for new flyers. First 4-5 flights I need to fly upright position. Next time hopefully they’ll let me fly with my own harness! I already can’t wait to get back in the air… thermaling sounds like a dream, and terrifying at the same time.
