Some big news for me! Since 1999 I've been using Ezzy Sails. Now in 2024, I'm trying a new brand. What could it be??

This was an advertisement for Ezzy sails. Top build quality, big sturdy sail bag, I‘m sold. Oh there was Goya too, nice colors 😂

Ezzy sails are made with top quality material so that you can keep them salty! I like how my Ezzy Lion goes mast sleeve first into the bag. Designed like a smart person would design it unlike my other Severne sails that go clew first which makes it so freaking tedious to put them in without damaging the sensitive end of the sail. Leave the Severne salty and some parts will rust and break off.

Enjoy the sails Paul! Felt the same after changing over from NP to Severne couple of years ago after 20+ years

I did this change 10+ years ago with a 6.2 eclipse and regretted it instantly. Even more when I had to thread the sail into the tiny bag in the wind after a long session. For someone who doesn’t want to spend $1000 every year on a sail, Ezzy is so much stronger than goya. It’s amazing how they achieve that with the same weight. Thanks for the review. It’s good to see how the two brands improved over the years and how they compare . I might try the next time I’m renting but I know what I’m buying. Enjoy the sails. Cheers

I heard Francisco years ago explaining a reason for their sails/bags being thinner is that it opened to the opportunity to pack 2 of them in a box from the factory versus just one in the past. It cut their shipping cost quite a bit. It might have been the 3 battens and not the 4 battens but found that detail from Francisco quite interesting. You’ll enjoy your Goya sails. I used many brands and this is always one I love above the others. Have fun Paul!

Congrats on your new sails! I've been on the Banzai for the last 5 years or so, and have had the 2020, 2022, and recently got some of the latest Gen 11 full carbon like yours. What I really like is that the new ones combined what I thought was great about the previous models - so the precision and stability of the 2020, with the lightness and soft handling of the 2022. Yes really good clew first, very nice for that under pressure clew first waterstart on the inside! A good point on the looks of the sail, it is always nice to bring something beautiful to the beach. I like the yellow/carbon stripy sections, but to my taste the all black foot panel and detailing has got a bit heavy against the yellow. The yellow/white 2022 is much more elegant looking in that regard I think (and the text elements are cleaner/more restrained). A deep red version would be extraordinary though! (see also the blue of the carbon Banzai Surf) Regarding masts, I have a mix 80% and 100% - I find the 100% is really light and quick, so nice in lighter conditions, but the 80% is great when really powered up as it is a fraction softer with a more forgiving ride. It is also nearly half the price! (I'd recommend taking out / putting back the mast ends together, so they don't rub against each other in the bag as you do so)

Hey thanks for the comments Robert, it's cool to hear your experience with the sails. The 100% mast is so sweet isn't it.... so responsive and light. I've ordered some 80% so will look forward to seeing the differences. I should've mentioned the price differences as well, that's a good point of yours!

Great stuff Paul. I have Goya boards and find them top quality so I imagine the sails are too. If I ever move from Severne sails, it'll probably only be to Goya. Also like the classy way you left Ezzy. You made it clear you love those sails and didn't leave for any other reason than the opportunity you were given. Congrats - hope you love them 🤙🏻

Ironic that you post this video. A friend is selling off his Ezzy sails due to aging out of windsurfing. I think he has been using the Ezzy brand for quite a while, and I was considering buying one. I tried an Ezzy 25 years ago with the vinyl window, and thought it was sooo heavy. I never really considered them again. I mostly grew fond of Hot Sails for their light feeling and mixed in some other brands, Sailworks, Pryde and and a few others. Some I did not enjoy at all and some I appreciated for their different beneficial features. I am glad to have had a bit of variety over the years. Sails are a big investment and sticking with something you know is easy. I recently purchased a 6.6 twin cam Goya Mark 2 that I am looking forward to sailing. Long time since I have had a cambered sail. Your new Goya quiver looks pretty sweet, I hope you enjoy them. They may be my next option 🤙

I changed my Ezzy too (for Simmer) but my main reason was their unique approach on the mast policy there, indeed I was just fed up of having to buy extra top/bottom pieces too, what’s funny is that they say the actual reason for the swapping nonsense is to have/buy less masts etc, where in reality it’s exactly the opposite , nevertheless I really enjoyed them, if they stop with the swapping policy I will go gladly back to them, anyway I am sure you will love them, goya are also very good wave sails, peace out and enjoy them 🤙🏻💙🤙🏻 PS. Just let me know if you won’t have any issues in putting them back in those fancy, and indeed beautiful, new slim bags…. I Would for sure though 😬

Good stuff Paul, enjoyed your video. I'm getting way to old to change sails so i will stick with my two 5-10year old Ezzys. They are still nearly as good as new. Be good to see what you feel about the Goya on a strong wind day.

Nice to get a new quiver! Early Christmas for you 😊Looking at the sails, I think the Ezzy is built better from the window, luft sleeve, mast protector and head cap (fabric sewn closed on Goya? which is a pain with sand) and probably in other areas also - including the sail bag. Where are you going to put your booties? If you turn over your sails frequently a lighter build probably not a huge issue and I am sure they will be awesome on the water and maybe handle better. I sail Ezzy 😁
@windsurfer
@windsurfer Күн бұрын
Yeah it’s had to beat the Ezzy for build quality. It’s pretty crazy actually as the sails definitely look beefier but have the same weight! The Goya does feel sweet though….

I am happy for you, From my limitd experience, Goya are more lively. Maybe less range than Ezzy but lighter and more manoeuvrable for surfing.
@Tomasz_C
@Tomasz_C Күн бұрын
"lighter" is quite a stretch... there is about 110-160 grams difference between Banzai and Ezzy Wave on the 5.0 and I bet Goya's have a higher swing weight and more variability in production (like the 4.0 Paul weighted). Anyway, cheers to Goya for the support (and Ezzy for past support). Looking forward to Paul's review after a few sessions in various conditions.
