I am a stepper. I practice over 20 hours a week (not including blind draws). I am a little on the older side (44) and have small injuries all over my body. I have taken 3 years and engineered my throw to be as gentle as possible. Since I practice so much I need my throw to not aggravate anything. Stepping give me the power I need to get the bag to the hole with very little effort.

My advice from slumping immediately after changing to a step, you can EASILY get through the lows and have a breakout. My biggest thing is making sure my release is simultaneously everytime, my cut is naturally left --- to right so playing on board is so useful! Finding out the little tricks that come with the step is also amazing. From a clean airmail, to a sticky side down push shot being my favorite/ most improved since changing to step!! All I know is the longer you continue with it a BREAKOUT does eventually happen!! Been 3months now with the step and this is easily the best I've ever done!! Throwing 7.8s or 8.6s (overall) more and more!!! If I could go back and not step (which I've tried) it feels way to stale. Love me the step!! I'd say give it one more month of consistency with that step and you'll break through

so glad to see this follow up. i have always had a single step because it felt normal and comfortable. Very similar to how you said it was similar to how i throw an under hand baseball or horse shoes. i honestly believe it is harder to go from no step to having a step (like you did) vs. eliminating the mechanics of a step. thanks for the follow up and good review of it. keep the good stuff coming

i really appreciate when people try new things even if it doesn't lead to them directly getting better. being able to learn from these things is a really good sign of the mindset you have! I dont even play this sport but you are a very good explainer

When I use to play horseshoes professionally I always stepped and that was normal that sport. Once I transitioned to playing cornhole I saw most if not everyone not doing a step. I have tried to not step but just can’t do it. It doesn’t help I have the muscle memory from horseshoes. I just started practicing and playing seriously a month ago and one my first local blind draw. My bags are incredibly slow 3s/6f cause I throw too hard and too high on the board but my partner had those Black Sheep bags that I see from your videos and I did amazing with them. Let me know if you have any unwanted bags that you are willing to sell cause I might be interested in buying some. Keep up the good content and I look forward to seeing your videos

I am a stepper as it seemed natural after stepping while playing horse shoes for years before transitioning to cornhole. It feels like a very fluid motion when stepping and a very stiff motion when standing. Thank you for your videos!

I have noticed a HUGE difference when I changed my aiming spot on the board. It used to be the hole , then the landing spot, now it's a spot behind the board on the wall or on the scoreboard that forms a straight line with my vision and the hole. Using this my PPR went from about a 7.5 to currently around a 8.5 and many more instances of 9+ PPRs. my pushes have gotten a LOT better too. Maybe something you could look at ?

I'd be interested for you to try something more mental than mechanical, like taking two deep breaths before every shot. Will help with the slowing down like you said and maybe with preventing overthinking.

I have about a 70 spr rn, and honestly you have to kind of forget about it just don't think about it. Its the same throw over and over again, or its shots you know you can hit, because why would you take a shot you don't believe in.
@rangerhallada4067 ай бұрын
I'm at about a 70 spr and a 9 ppr. I do throw a butterfly without a step, but honestly the most important thing for me is my final release, and how my wrist goes because that's what changes my shots. Once you find where your release should be you should be able to feel where you bag is gonna go! At the end of the day it comes down to repetition, consistency, and competition. If you're not playing good competition how are you gonna expect to get better?

I was a pitcher in baseball and also a big bowler, but I cannot throw with a step, it feels so unnatural and I cannot get the timing down
@WolfPackCornhole7 ай бұрын
Brother don’t give up the step! Please ! By looking at your deck around your step is fine it’s just your follow through is ass lol nothing was consistent. My biggest suggestion is having a step that doesn’t allow you to step over at all as next year we can’t , so I start mid board and I have never stepped over once I never had to I make my step super light and easy and make sure you follow through where your hand goes, if it’s easier point your pinky where you want the bag to go.

@WarrenDrivel6 ай бұрын
I understand the stepping analogy you make with regards to a baseball pitcher and a bowler. But those sports NEED the step for velocity and power. That’s not what is needed in cornhole-it’s accuracy and consistency. I’m always willing to try something new to improve my game, but I start with the premise of less moving parts, the better
