Once i had the pleasure to spot Joe Kovacs on Benchpress at my local Gym in Székesfehérvár Hungary in 2023. Joe was here for some shotput event. Even as a Hungarian top 10, 105kg powerlifter i was feeling puny. Joe was block benching with the same weight as i was squatting at the same time like 200kg. That man is a monster. He also had a shotput ball in his gymbag he showed me 😂. Huge respect to both of you guys.

I miss the days when WSM had athletes from other sports competing. I think professional strongman didn't become a thing until the 2000s. In the 80s you had a lot of pro football guys and shot put athletes competing, they couldn't beat the powerlifters in the static lifts but those guys had to catch up to the athletes in the more athletic events like the toss.
@GOAT-rl2uq9 сағат бұрын
The throws are so insanely cool and need more attention. Absolutely freakishly strong and explosive athletes as well, even in the light one, javelin.

I wonder how a strongman transitioning to PED tested sports would go. Even if you got off them for a length of time that makes them undetectable in testing and stayed off. Would definitely be controversial
@SM4724_9 сағат бұрын
@@sherlockholmieblitz4814 this is very interesting also because he has all but admitted that to be competitive in strongman you have to commit to the "lifestyle" which many believe is him admitting to doing drugs. This could be something that automatically bars him from competing. I don't know what the actual rules are but I believe he would have to be in the WADA testing pool years before being allowed to compete internationally.

Thanks man

Honestly I think Mitch could make 70ft in a year mid low 50s off the rip from a half spin is good. Im a high school coach and I've seen kids go from form like that to semi decent full throws and go from 30 to 50 in a season
@steffenbrygg79079 сағат бұрын
Have this ever been tried this as an strongman event? "cannon ball throw" to make it sound more strongman like. Liked his idea of ladder style comp. If keg tos can be strongman, this can be strongmen for sure!

I'm honestly impressed by Mitch here. He's athleticism has always been a strong suit in Strongman and that's what will help him the most if he were to compete in shot put. He's strength is great but without the mobility and being able to have balance and speed it's not worth as much. Just look at Eddie. I'd reckon Mitch could do 20m with a year of training. If he really put in an effort he honestly has a good chance to qualify

For Arnolds they should do a real Angry Bird style comp where distance and destruction of obstacles are taking into account. Make the obstacle cool maybe add explosions for finals.

The absolute meat on Joe Kovacs shot putting hand is ridiculous. I remember watching a Ryan Crouser video where he mentioned that shot put force and distances are so high now that the human hand literally cannot stand up to the force, hence why they tape their fingers so heavily. Stops them splitting open.

A lot of people would agree that the shot put is the most explosive sport there is, even more explosive than weightlifting. Honestly, spend enough time training the techniques and get that neurological adaptation in your brain, and yes you would be an olympian. Out of all of the other strong men out there, I do believe you have one of the greatest potentials for the shot put
