I went to a big Motorrad dealer in Sydney on a different matter, namely do they have someone who is an expert on Airheads? The answer was no, it would have to be a specialist independent. There's one in Brisbane, 1400 kms away. While I was there I noticed a row of R1300GS's at the back of the workshop. I asked about them. They were quite up front. They were all in for various electrical problem warranty claims. I said what was the best, most reliable GS to buy given our huge distances and low numbers of dealers. "Mine, of course. An R1150 GS or RT." Best of luck.

A payment is definitely in order. My own experience with my local BMW Motorad a few years ago was also poor. I bought a new S1000r Sport which the starter button failed completely after 3 days stopping any starting of the bike. Initially they wanted to book it in as a service work which was almost three weeks wait for a slot. After phone calls to BMW Uk, highlighting it was 3 days old, they changed tack, but were then difficult to deal with at all, no curtesy bike offered or available and resulted in me saying last purchase from them. How does this level of service help them?, never got any more business from me.

Good news. I'm glad you got your bike back. I hope that the new GS/GSAs software systems get ironed out soon for everyone otherwise those issues are going to hurt sales. As for your compensation for being without your bike for a few weeks you might want to ask BMW for something that costs them not so much, but is valuable to you. I've seen that work in the past - some rider gear perhaps, or a freebie somewhere to an event. Something like that. BMW really ought to look after early adopters like you who help them to launch new products including by doing unpaid software / hardware debugging for them! Good luck.

Glad the bikes back. Fingers crossed all is sorted! Strange how some muppets write negative comments about you sharing your ownership experience. Can never work that one out. Ride safe. I'm testing the automatic version this week. 🙈

Happy to hear you are reunited with your bike. For me though, there are far too many videos of people having major issues with BMW bikes.I really wanted to get an rt 1250RT, but settled for hondas NT1100 dct. Off to southern spain on wednesday, and i know the honda will be up to the trip.I recognise your ride in the video,i go that way via leigh to knutsford on my push bike.

First time BMW owner. Got a 24 M1000R. Zero issues first season with it. Broke it in properly, no oil consumption. I've always felt BMW motorcycles are more reliable than most European bikes, and still do, but like anything, they can have issues. Ducati is doing a lot better quality wise. Aprilia has some work to do still, and KTM is going through some major issues. Interesting times ahead.

Finance payment for the month would be a reasonable gesture of goodwill. A whole month off the road really isn’t acceptable.

Perhaps under sale of goods legislation, not having access to the use of your purchase because of a manufacturing fault, would give you the right to withhold payment on loan/PCP for that duration? It's definitely worth pursuing with the dealership, finance company and your bank. Good luck with the bike. I hope it's all fixed now and keep going with the videos 👍
