the one thing i rarely hear ppl talk about that i cant live without is the back buttons ive never had paddles or back buttons on controllers, and now that i do, using an xbox controller or ps5 seems odd i love the back buttons in cod, gta, racing games pretty much anything

One thing I can't live without is the trackpads and gyro. Steam input makes custom schemes so easy.

I’m getting either the Steam Deck OLED or the Ally X next week and everything you said is why I’m leaning towards the Ally X. Great honest video.

I love my gaming PC I have a 3080 and I broke my foot about four months ago and it was impossible to sit at my desk so that’s when I decided to get a steam deck. I got the LCD model and then after a week and a half. I decided to order the OLED 512 and return the original 64 and now that my foot is healed. I still find myself playing my steam deck over my PC. I also have a gaming laptop on the side that I used to play call of duty my PC gaming life has changed over the last four months for sure.

This is interesting, since it's the opposite experience for me. That said, people definitely have different use cases and uses. I've found it easier to get 3rd party launchers set up over time (don't have Geforce) and play Diablo 4 from the Blizzard launcher all the time. The OLED Deck has become my 95% gaming device, and have only touched the main PC for Destiny 2. I also have loved many of the OS additions, on top of Steam Input and the track pads- new family sharing system, better proton compatability, new recording, better docking, among others. Hope they continue to build!

It's really a shame they didn't put the oled deck on discount for the summer sale, I really thought they would
@Moskeeto6 ай бұрын
Maybe they will this Winter Sale. I think they were sitting on too many leftover discontinued LCD models that they wanted to sell those off before discounting the OLED.
@SniP3rHavOk5 ай бұрын
This is what I am waiting for. I still use my LCD and don't plan to sell it, but if I could get an OLED for a discount then I may consider getting my second deck

70-80% Im still on my pc, but i love that i can just continue playing where i stopped ... while in bed. And also, all my emulation gaming went to the SD.

If you get Diablo four on steam, it doesn’t even use the blizzard launcher to get in
@kennymoore21315 ай бұрын
I bought Diablo 4 through Steam. It works flawlessly and i didnt have to do anything to it or go through any launchers
@MrChevyGames5 ай бұрын
yeah i use it via gamepass which requires the battle.net launcher
@Raisoko5 ай бұрын
Wait I’m confused. I haven’t played Diablo 4 on my SD but I run the blizzard launcher through proton and ran WoW with no issues at all. I think I will need to try to install D4 and come back with updated thoughts.

For me the biggest flaw is the 16:10 screen. I am constantly going between docked and handheld and it is just so annoying to have to close my games and re open them whenever I want to switch between them. Plus I HATE how it normalized 16:10 screens because of it almost every gaming laptop now is 16:10 and it just doesn't make any sense to me for it to be that aspect ratio when a large appeal of it is being able to plug into a tv.

i love it for emulation, but for modern gaming... yes it kinda sucks.

all the hardcore linux users be like "what do you mean 'restricted'?" Jokes aside, the big difference I find is that iOS feels more restricted than Android, because Apple is putting efforts-(even more than Google) into locking users down and wont allow you to do whatever you want with your own device that you bought yourself with your own money. Whereas SteamDeck feels restricted due to mostly the typical user (a "PC Gamer", i.e. heavily Microsoft Windows user) who lack the expertise and familiarity to hack deeply into the bowels of SteamOS. Give it some time, let the community get used of it. A few more years and some will tweak their decks as much as their Windows desktops doing weird funny stuff with the shell, etc.

What does the UI has to do with gaming? I think you just conjuring up a reason to buy the ally. Pointless video!

windows is the true gaming platform. 1- all games work 2- all platforms work 3- Geforce Now gives you access to higher resolutions and bitrates 4- modding is possible and all mods work 5- Downloand and install playnite, amazing launcher. 6- Newer drivers and features. Linux is good, but the draw backs are so many that it is hard to know that windows eliminates all of these headaches. This coming from who loves Linux, from Fedora, Arch, Debian, Hyprland, Gnome, wayland. Linux just isn't it, when it comes to gaming.
@Brandon-a45 ай бұрын
"windows eliminates all of these headaches" I agree with all of what you said, but windows adds it's own set up of new headaches. For one it's not an OS designed to be used on a handheld. The steam deck offers a simple way to play pc games on the go. As an OS I prefer windows for my main gaming machine, for a handheld I'd take Seam OS any day of the week. Unless we see that change in future windows updates or Microsoft's own gaming handheld.

@@Brandon-a4 I don't get this argument. When I got my ally, I connected a mouse and keyboard, downloaded all my games. Installed playnite and set it up for full screen mode. After that, I use it as if it is a console. Other gamers might prefer steam big picture mode. What ever you launcher of preference is, I use it pretty much as a console once it is setup.
