Also, the OLED version rarely if ever goes on a proper sale. I saw the Rog Ally for 500$ multiple times already, that's cheaper than the OLED version for a much more performand handheld, with arguably better screen (higher refresh rate+vrr). Add the difference of 70$ towards a small 65w powerbank and eventually a case like modcase that you can strap the powerbank on the back of the handheld, and you have a more performant steamdeck, with better battery, more refresh rate, more games, and VRR. And you don't like windows? Just get Bazzite and basically have steamos. If the oled version went on a proper sale, then I might've considered it. But i'm just gonna wait for the Rog Ally X to go on sale towards christmas, and if it's not at most 650$ or so, then im just gonna get a 450-500$ rog ally and a power bank. The thing that makes the OLED deck lasts beyond its hardware is the capability to stream HDR on the OLED from other devices (PC, PS5 and potentially more in the future). When the hardware is no longer capable to drive the games, the ability to stream HDR to the deck at 1000nits extends the longevity of the deck greater than the LCD
@AndyAndyAndy111116 ай бұрын
Some other nice things about the OLED that I haven't seen anyone mention is the actual screen size. It's a little bit bigger than the LCD but it feels like a massive difference because the actual size of the Deck remains the same but the bezels get MUCH smaller. Another benefit is the pure blacks from the OLED make games that don't support 16:10 aspect ratio of the deck more immersive. The grey borders from the LCD can be distracting and the OLED fixes that.

Weird way to look at the price difference. The 512GB LCD model saw a price drop of $200 from $649 USD to $449. You're jumping in on a product that anyone else who bought it before you paid $200 more than you did, so saying that an extra $100 isn't worth it for a better screen, higher refresh rate, massively increased battery life, etc., when others paid $200 more for what you got just feels odd.

For whatever reason the dock falls back to USB 2.0 speeds instead of leaving them at 3.0. With Mike experience it’s been a 50-50 if USB 3.0 functions. I have tested this with my dock and a friend dock. That's part of it, but it's also the steamdeck being less performant (running at 1280*800p, while the others run at 1080p or more for the lenovo legion go) and being able to use 7w tdp. Plus, I really like how I was able to get a discount by buying a refurbished deck from them. Absolutely love how when they have enough refurbished ones they resell them for a lower price. Potential cosmetic damage was not gonna stop me from enjoying the purchase. And yes, while the OLED version is a much more improved version of the handheld, I wasn't gonna be able to justify that over a cheaper refurbished system. So far the only problems I've had are one game I have (Isles of Sea and Sky) will throw an error once in a blue moon, causing me to have to force close the game, having to do some IT magic to reset the root password for desktop mode because I forgot it, and a single plug-in managing to cripple my ability to access desktop mode.

You can remote play on both Xbox and the PS on the Steam Deck. Can't provide links, but some quick internet searching will get you what you need.

My Deck fried after 1 year of use. I absolutely loved it. When I took to get fixed they said it was water damage. Must have been that ghost water that doesn't exist. (I am 100% certain that it could not have possibly been water damage.) It still works as a web browser. I absolutely loved it but it is VERY FRAGILE. Beware!!!

How? Any specific thing you did to cause it?

Congrats on your buy! The Steam Deck is an awesome device, but have so many "hidden features", I can tell you at least 2 you didn't mention: 1. If you like physical collections, you can hotswap microSDs full of games as cartridges (and then organize your games that way to have complete collections: For example, the complete Witcher trilogy can be installed in a single 128GB microSD). 2. When docked (or anywhere really), you can sync any Bluetooth controller to work as input for any game, will all inputs including touchpads, gyro and grips if available, and yes, this include both your joycons as a single controller with additional side buttons (the mini shoulders act as L4 to R5).

I wouldn’t necessarily agree with trying to use microSDs as game storage even though that sounds pretty neat. Load times will likely suffer. Not by much. But any game that relies on a lot streaming data as you move like ratchet & clank, Spider-Man or Minecraft(probably) will experience slowdowns. I see it being a better options on older games that came out during the hdd or early sata ssd days where load times on many games loads quickly even on hdds. 100mb/s speeds is the max microsds can go. At least with current prices. It’s cheaper to get a 2tb 2230 nvme and pop it in the deck than a 1.5tb sd card. I see using the sd card as backup when you exhausted your 2tbs and need more storage
@qchtohere86366 ай бұрын
@@suiton20 while there is a performance degradation (mostly on writes, that affects mostly updates and installs) if you get A2 microSDs, in-game performance drop is negligible, even in newer games. I have my whole Sony collection in a single 1tb card (including Spiderman, Uncharted, HorizonZD and GoW, and all of them work great). And also I can certify even games as newer as MK1 or Suicide Squad run just fine under the same conditions. To be technical, it is because: 1. SteamOS handle installation directories and shader caches in internal memory always and 2. It uses a far more robust FS that NTFS (that is way too index intensive for it's own good): ext4. So seriously, don't assume it is the same as using a microSD under Windows, because it's more akin to memory management on the PS or the Switch (but better because, again, you can hotswap them).

@@suiton20 Months later, but I need to share my experience. Deck way of managing SD card is a complete marvel. You don't see any difference in speed and the SD is not damaged. Even more impressive. I was able to install a Windows OS on my SD card and two years of playing Genshin Impact with it later, the SD card is still completely fine. It should not work.

I ordered an oled yesterday!! Really excited to replace gaming on my old laptop with it. At first i was worried about "what if they announce a steam deck 2?" And realise they wont be around until 2025-2026(When they become readily available) and maybe 2027-2028 when they get a revised model like the current Oled. So i think staying with my upcoming one for 4-5 years until a much more upgraded model like the current oled is to the first steamdeck is perfect with me
@truthtruth90566 ай бұрын
My friend and me, we compared our steam deck, he has oled and i have lcd with vibrant deck on and guess what it looks exactly the same, not a big difference, plus the oled is not an upgrade in tes of performance, it has identical specs performance to lcd version, the only good thing about oled was the battery and wifi fast download, so if you can buy cheap lcd its much better than the expensive oled that has the same performance as the lcd.
@Gnarkkotik_TTV6 ай бұрын
It does have performance upgrades. The ram is better. Also the refresh rate is higher and the fan is better. I have an lcd but this is wrong.
@truthtruth90566 ай бұрын
@@Gnarkkotik_TTV nah bro, there's barely an improvement on performance, there is a reason it was only called an oled not sd 2, watch dragons dogma 2 gameplay, it performs the same as the lcd
@Gnarkkotik_TTV6 ай бұрын
@@truthtruth9056 dragons dogma is trash regardless in ANY handheld let alone even on pc😂 thats one of the biggest complaints with that game specially. that’s not a good comparison as there is quite a few games that have a 5-12 fps difference average due to the ram. Now is the lcd great? Yes. Do you need the oled? No. Is the oled worth the upgrade? Subjective to what you care about and the money. Will I upgrade? No cause I can play the same exact games the oled does and don’t care to upgrade as the lcd has never done me wrong and the oled does seem to have more faulty problems. I’ve seen a lot get dead pixels,screen turning off,power issues,becoming bricked after a month or 2 and more so you should lead with that more then anything imo if you want to argue in the LCD’s defense

Valve's dock isn't that expensive when you realize it comes with another charger so you don't have to crawl under your desk when you take your Deck with you travelling or whatever. You can leave the charger connected to the dock all the time.

Get a battery bank if battery life is your biggest issue. A little inconvenient but it'll do. Personally, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a holiday sale then I'll get the 512GB OLED and a microSD card. I plan to take it with me when I travel.

You forgot to mention about other launchers such as Rockstar, GOG, Epic, Ubisoft, you can get them all running on the deck. Same for other windows programs, you can get so much running on the deck with just a little digging.

Bro has never seen a screen running more than 60Hz to call it "random specs". You have an interesting perspective on handheld gaming. Good video. Not just knocking you, but everyone who does this. Why would you play AAA titles handheld on 30-ish FPS. It is a horrible experience. Purposely locking your frame to 30 while it can perform higher isn't so bad, but if your system can only produce 30 fps it feels so. much. laggier. Especially something like Elden Ring in which timing matters a lot.

From someone who has used both, The OLED model (along with all it's other unsung improvements) is 100% worth the extra $100. If you can afford either or, get the OLED.

if I waited a year I would have bought the OLED other wise the steam deck is an amazing system, it lets you use other launchers and allows you to add or reduce power and if you want to play Wii while docked you can use a wii-mote, my brother and I played wii sports this weekend off my steam deck onto the TV. Again use your tools to figure out how to get the wii-motes connected its not that hard.
