My seventh grader came home crying on the first day of school this year… She told me, "on the first day I'm crying.. how am I supposed to make it for the rest of the year?" Of course I called the school about the bullying and they did nothing… I just took her out last week and now she is online learning... And the change in her personality is spectacular! She smiles... she has no stress and she's doing the school work... The principal of her old school called me and was upset because I put "bullying" as the reason for the transfer.... He acted like I never brought it up at the school... I kept waiting for the school to send out a bulletin telling everybody there to be mindful of bullying! Nope.. never happened... Listen to your kids… If they are opening up to you about being bullied, they're being bullied and only you as their parent can stand up for them… I'm so sorry for this family.. Yes! hold the parents accountable. It starts by exposing them. There will likely be many of them as bullies rarely do anything alone. They feed off of an audience and need each other for validation. Name the parents and it will be obvious to everyone in the community which students are the problematic ones. Sometimes it's just one parent in the household sneaking around the other one to rot their offspring or (even worse) other people's spouses and/or children. Exposing the problematic adults forces the decent one(s) in the household/community to address the behavior among themselves. In other words, bullying is learned behavior. Yes, they need to be held accountable especially after a parent goes to the principal and tells them about the bullying. Even then, they do nothing. The recent school shooting, that child was bullied over and over again even after multiple visits to the school about him being bullied. That principal should also be arrested for such disaster. That principal did absolutely nothing to protect that child and look what happened. Maybe after that principal gets arrested and charged with the outcome, bullying will not be tolerated/ignored. It doesn't feel like schools have a very effective policy for nipping this in the bud. This is literally life and death for students, and it needs to be treated with the seriousness it deserves. I think maybe their might be people who think the targets are weak, that is NOT the case. Who cares about how sorry the school district is! what are they going to do to punish the BULLIES?? The only reason why this stuff continues because there is NO PUNISHMENT for the bullies and a strict anti-bullying policy the schools actually ACT ON and follow thru with and if they start making an example of them and giving serious consequences for their behaviors, they will stop this kind of behavior. Until then, you’ll hear about this every single day because nobody is doing anything to punish these kids because they’re “children”. If they’re old enough to bully other person to the point where they want to end their own life or shoot up schools or go to school and physically harm someone, then they’re old enough to take the consequences and punishments for their actions..

Along with the teachers and principals who damn well know who is being bullied and who is doing the bullying. I was bullied constantly in school because I have severe scoliosis and I was bullied in front of teachers who just watched and the biggest thing any of them did was say “KNOCK IT OFF”. KNOCK IT OFF, what a joke they were. I look back and think how many times I just wanted anyone to make it stop but makes me more sick is how many times teachers and the principal did absolutely nothing to help me or stop what they were doing to me. I cry still now because I know exactly how these children feel. The school staff is the most horrible people of all. They choose to ignore it because they don’t want to deal with those bully’s or the parents. They should be arrested as well

I grew up in the 70-80's and let me tell you, it was hard then too. I was bullied daily and it was so hard to keep going. I never felt a part of anyones groups. I didn't have friends to sit with at lunch or to hang around with at all. I had one friend who was new and as soon as the popular girls took her over that was it, lost my friend. So many days I didn't want to go to school being lonely. I never once thought about taking my life but the pain was so bad for me. I was under such stress I caused myself to get Type 1 diabetes because I was so stressed from school. As an adult I discovered I'm on the Autisim spectrum and this is why it was hard for me to fit in. If only I had known back then. If I didn't have my mom to talk to every day I don't know how I would have made it through those years. Talking to someone makes a huge difference in a childs mental health. Every beginning of the year teachers need to offer a way for bullied kids to know where they can go if they need to talk. It needs to be emphasized first day of school. Bullying will always be there but if kids know where to go to get help no matter what maybe we can help stop the suicides. They should have a sign in every class room with a number to call or how to go to as a safe person. Bless this girls heart and I hope her parents and family can heal soon. I can't imagine the pain they are going through right now.

My own dad and older sister would pick on me and try to get a reaction out of me and mock me when id get mad or cry. This reminded me of that. When people do that to someone, i tell ya, it's straight up torture and messes with your mind in a horrible way. They made me feel the same, like i was going insane and didn't want to live anymore. These are sick minded people who are cruel and need to be held accountable! This young girl was beautiful and had her whole life ahead of her. This is just so heartbreaking because i can relate. I'm so very sad she didn't get some help and didn't get the chance to talk with someone who could've gotten through to her. I pray her family finds peace and they all have a long happy and healthy life.

My niece’s mom died last year and my mother got custody of her. She was only 7. On the bus ride home one day at her new school, the FIRST WEEK a girl older than her began bullying her and calling her names, talking about her dead mother. It was awful. The school wouldn’t do anything about the girl until we blew it up and demanded something be done about it. Then the next school year another older girl started harassing her and trying to fight her (niece was 8 then, this girl was in 5th grade). In my opinion PARENTS need to be held accountable. It starts at home.
