Hi Lindy. I am sorry, your advice is good, But you need to view some of the many videos that are then posted about Western North Carolina. There is nothing but devastation. I lost an extended member of my family due to the flood. There have been many thousands of generators donated to the people of Western North Carolina. People are donating RVs, camping pop-ups. Land has been washed away, boundary lines are gone, people are out of work. Mission hospital in Asheville is closing a critical Care unit because they're using their resources to help the people in the actual area. Southern California is warm and sunny. Western North Carolina has already had snow, Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain ski resorts are already open. People lost cars, lost their homes, Lost family members, Lost their job or their businesses. It is the worst national disaster to hit the United States. I lived in Florida many years. Went through hurricanes and tornadoes. Florida is flat warte runs off dries up. The mountains funneled the rain down through the valleys in the hollows across towns wiping out Chimney Rock. There are trees. Solar is an option in some places for only part of the day. People All over North Carolina are helping more so than FEMA or the national government. I live 3 hours away. My town sends trucks every week of supplies, clothing, Diesel, generators, things people request, warm weather clothing. Schools aren't even Open which provide meals to some children. It's nothing like you've ever seen. It's horrible. The Cane River only ever crested at 10 ft flood level, It was 30 ft above the river. 90 years old. Have never seen floods like this.

Thank you ! Put a smaller tent inside a bigger tent helps insulate better. Make a tent with blanket over a big table or drape with clothesline to make a smaller space to sleep to contain heat. It's really cold in the mountains of Western NC.

Where is Fema supposed to get maybe thousands of homes from. There is no real budget limit for Fema but 1 has to be practical. In my opinion Fema should be managing the recovery of bodies from that mud, and managing the demands. They are really a management service with the ability to fund.

I am preparing a bug out suv and have a small 12v freezer. I intend to use part to freeze cooler blocks to put into a cooler bag to keep left over food fresh. I very rarely use milk or butter so do not need anything large. If packed well I could get quite a lot of meat in the freezer. I have 2 solar generators and use them, where possible, to help reduce my electricity bill.

The mud is full of chemicals, radioactive, yes radioactive! There was a storage facility that contained radioactive waste and it was destroyed, barrels of waste material opened, floated down rivers, etc.

If you still have a house the things I would do is try caulking around your windows and filling in any cracks or holes wind can blow in. You can also put plastic sheeting over the outside of the windows. Also close off any room that you don't need to use. Put a blanket or quilt over the door. During the day leave your curtains open when the sun is shining in but close them to reserve heat when the sun isn't. If you are lucky enough to have propane hot water you can put covered pots of hot water in the areas you want more heat If you are living in a tent put a blanket or two over the tent then put plastic sheeting over the blankets . Heat rises so slowing it down from going straight up n out the roof will help keep the tent warmer. Many homeless people say that cardboard is very helpful to staying warm they'll sleep on cardboard and you can put it up the walls of your tent. To All Of Those Affected By Any Disaster I'm Praying You All Get Thru This Winter Safely 🙏💗🙏

Rocket store for me. You can build your own using some bricks,a metal pipe could do if you have only that. Online you can find a video that teaches you to do with what you find. A rocket stove is the best because you save wood. Very efficient way to get cooking soon for very little effort.

Bubble wrap (may find in the trash, locally, at businesses) or some plastic sheeting (or even layers of cardboard) over exterior windows, particularly in the room/rooms you may have to "camp out" in. Agree with the tent-inside-a-tent or making a blanket fort under a table, anything to make your sleeping more comfortable in such a situation...or sleep in an interior closet to heat as small a space as possible. Sit clear water bottles in the sunlight, and use as hot water bottles to warm up your sleeping bag/mat before bed (or use to have a hot drink, without electricity). Wearing a hat, gloves and layers of socks for additional warmth. I feel for anyone suffering from the hurricanes and other disasters.

Rice pot 2 cup 200 watts. I got one lost the lid in my car and I bought a 300 Watt for $5 thrift store. The 300 watt is larger I can cook more rice per burn. You got rice cooked you can build a meal with a pair of eggs or can of beans. If you're in an area where the winter is hard and you can escape Greyhound a jet anything get away from there and find some warmer weather.

A fulltime rv friend got a $100 solar panel at harbor freight to charge her house battery. She's used it a year and runs all of her appliances, which are small ones including a tv. Maybe they won't need a fridge until spring. Keep perishables in an outdoor cooler on the shady side. I've done this for years summer and winter in my rv. I use the fridge as a pantry nowadays. Meats and other cooked foods keep well for days if you just reheat them every 24 hrs.

I live offgrid in Amish community. We use wood and propane. We started with 8x8 osb shed my husband built from recycled wood. It's tough. Wish I had money for all the new things Lindy speaks of.
