@WeWillNomad2 ай бұрын
Thanks Geoff. A lot of the 'issues' are concentrated around specific areas and it's VERY seasonal. This is what makes it so tricky to navigate. Our observation is that the relaxed attitude Danes have with regards to strict regulation is/was based on their sense that they/we are considerate towards others. The influx from 'outsiders' upset that delicate balance somewhat. Hopefully there will not be a knee-jerk reaction and sensible limits during peak season can solve the problem. This is not unique to Denmark at all.

Regarding the parking I think you are absolutely right about the free parking, if there are no signs that tell you otherwise.

I spend at least one month every year sailing around Denmark, staying in marinas or at anchor. In marinas we pay a small fee (150kr to 250kr) for every night we stay. Most marinas have space for motorhomes and they must pay too. Why do you think that being asked to pay for your parking is “taking advantage of tourists”? We pay our way (as Danish citizens) and you should too.
@MogensDamАй бұрын
@@claremaccarthy7308 First I'm not a sailor or camper myself. But as I understand it, there is a difference between parking and camping. If you park you are not allowed to put out chairs, set up an awning etc. If you camp in a paid campsite you can also use the facilities, just like when you get a key to paid facilities in marinas. When you anchor outside the marinas you don't pay either, do you?
@claremaccarthy7308Ай бұрын
@@MogensDam You’re right, I don’t pay at anchor. But after two or three nights at sea, I must go to a marina to empty my toilet tank and refill my fresh water tank - this service I pay for, and am happy to do so. In Danish law, while there’s no clear definition of the difference between “at raste” and “at campere”, many municipalities forbid what is known as “piratcampering”. In Gentofte kommune, where I live, overnight stays at the kerbside or public carparks is forbidden. Campervans must stay and pay in either Charlottenlund Fort Camping or Skovshoved Havn if they want to sleep here.
@MogensDamАй бұрын
@@claremaccarthy7308 Of course people will have to pay if there is a signs that says so. But In this particular case with Andre and Lisa, there was no signs at all (other than the common P-sign). Little note, the students white hat, isn't a sailors cap at all, nor is it even related to it. It dates back to some pan-scandinavian student meetups in Sweden almost 200 years ago by now, the design has changed a bit over the years, but the biggest change is it now white as opposed to black. The coloured band signifies which secondary education you took (we have a lot of different ones), the cross in the center of the kokarde is NOT a symbol of your faith at all, though recently some immigrants have misconstrued it as such, it is a reference to how in the old days the reason people were sent to university was to study to become a priest, so that's the actual connection, it shows that you are now ready for university. There is also a LOT of traditions around graduation secondary school and the hat, but that's a huge topic on its own.
@herrensaar1989Ай бұрын
You have been able to get a cross in the center of the kokarde since the 1940s. It has nothing to do with immigrants...
@vrenakАй бұрын
@@herrensaar1989 I think you misread things, I didn't say it had to do with immigrants, I said immigrants misconstrue it, and thus some have replaced it with a crescent, because they don't know what the cross symbolises, they think it symbolises your religion, it doesn't, it symbolises you can now enter university.

And that's how we now have our Capitol at the edge of our country.

My first visit to your channel. And wauw what a pair of lovely people are I honestly can't imagine a nicer couple. Just FYI. Those small marinas are often self ran /owned. So when people rent a night in the shelter or pay for camping a night, it helps the marina cover the expenses of emptying toilets, laying tarmac / gravel, or whatever comes up that needs repairs. I think they should lower the price though. At by 50 % or all the way down to 2 Euros per night. And they should definitely put up clear signs that is in adherence with law, if they expect people to pay. I'm pretty sure rules as to where you can park / sleep / camp over night has been made a lit more liberal than they were, say in the 90 and before then.

32:41 😄😄 I remember that comment from back then. I believe it was on your first trip here to Denmark and you were riding around the Copenhagen area. I had quite a discussion with that person who claimed that you were never allowed to ride two people on a bicycle. I remember asking them if that made all parents, who have their kid with them on their bicycle, criminals. If I remember correctly the person ended up deleting their comments in the end.

Haha yes exactly! 🤣Since then, there has been a few more comments on that video regarding the bike riding.. Not sure why that would be what someone would want to take away from our pretty innocent and silly vlogs.

I dont know if parking was allowed or not. It is pretty normal to look at "sleeping over night" as camping. However - there must be signs in the area telling if it cost money. You cant just pop-up and say you want money for camping , if its not public announced . Anyway... if you are still on Fyn, Id say you missed Svendborg. Its one of the most cozy towns in Denmark . And Langeland too !! I could give cake and coffee at the summerhouse - though i understand you decided to say no, thanks. A small stroll in Rudkøbing is worth it if you visit Langeland - and a walk around the wild horses in south. If you cant find free parking , you can you my ground 300 meter from the beach at Bukkemose Beach

This video threw me a bit... I was like.. That looks just like back in my growing up town Fredericia, they got the canons and all, crazy how it looks just like up by the Hvide Vandtårn.. and lo and behold you're there. Shame it couldn't have been on the 5 and 6 of July as that day would have been a day to remember. Modern canons fireing on the wall or oppe på volden as we say. They start at 6.30 in the morning and have stuff going on all day with speaches and soldiers dressed in 1849 uniforms to remember the battle against the germans that attacked from down at the german border with plans to take Denmark but we won the battle and they buggered off.. so a lot of stuff in those days that always ends with a big fireworks at 23.00 in the evening. 😊 Btw, seen a few videos, and i still can't get over how good you are at pronouncing the danish Æ. Most non Danes cant do Æ.Ø.Å very well but your Æ is spot on.. you've listened and made an effort and you got it. Well done. Now had i been over there i would have bought you a piece of Brunsviger each. Since you tried Romkugler, it would have made sense if you'd tried Brunsviger another classic pastry that has its origins in Odense and you where right there where the best brunsviger is still made today according to the media.. 😊 A try for next time then.. regards Simon a Brit in Denmark since 73.

I do live in Kerteminde. First, your interpretation of parking/camping is correct. For other viewers: If you haul things out of your camper, you are camping. If all your things are in the camper, you are parking. And it is perfectly fine to rest while parking, even recommended. I have checked the Marina. It is public owned by Kerteminde commune, where I live. So my tax money goes toward the marina. If the guy were legit, you would see it on he's clothes and car. It would say "Kerteminde Kommune".

Sorry you had to run in to some of the tyical butthurt danes, when it comes to parking/camping. You guys did nothing wrong, the blue P sign is public parking, and aslong you don't put down the steps and/or put up a table outside the camper you are just parking. It is totally legal to sleep in your car, if you are tired it is acctually illegal to drive. You just have to leave within 24 hours, unless a shorter periode is listed on a sign next to the blue P sign. If it says 3 or 6 hours you have to respect that, but that is useually only at Truck stops. Enjoy your visit and thanks for sharing, it's fun to see my own country and backyead from a different perspective.

Yeah and definitely take the ferry from Langeland to "Zealand" (in real Lolland)... once u are in Svendborg already.... (on the way to Langeland go up in the church tower on Tåsinge called Bregninge Kirke (church)).... could consider going to Ærø with Ferry from Svendborg... but will maybe cost a bit... maybe leave the autocamper in Svendborg and take a day trip there... dont know... but definitely go zealand from langeland... and when u come to Lolland and Falster go to Møn and Møns cliff

About the parking... There is a lot of debate this summer, about mobilehomes crowding the beaches, marinas and public parking. The thing is that mobile homes are using roads, parking areas and public places, but generate no income, for the locals. Near my home is a very popular beach, that this summer is packed with mobile homes. Mostly german.. They do not take properly care of their trash and are occupying the space and sunset-view, for people in the local (tourist) town, that walk from the campingplads or rented summerhouse, to the beach.. Since this is a discussion many places this year, I think that is the reason the man came to you. Had you paid the 60 DKK to stay the night, in the designated area, across the street, there would of course not have been an issue..
@WeWillNomad2 ай бұрын
Of course we agree with you regarding the general problem of motorhome travelers not considering locals. As we do this full time we're extremely aware of the negative views created by some. If you've been following us for a while you will also know that we try our best not to intrude on areas which locals use during peak season. However, the point in this case was whether this parking was paid or not and if this person had the right to ask for payment for where we were parked.
@molly95182 ай бұрын
@@WeWillNomad Yeah.. Im with you on that. And thank you for being like that. 👍 And no. If it is public parking, they need to send an official P-vagt, to write a fine, if parking is done illegally. Had it been a private parking (Which it was not) he would still have to have official ID - and write a fine - not just ask for money..
@TheOlesbАй бұрын
@@WeWillNomad So just to clarify In Denmark there's a difference between resting and camping, all though the destinction between the two is a bit blurry. However, being in an autocamper you are allowed to stop and rest during the day, but if you spend the night that is camping, hence the word autocamper, campervan, etc. You are allowed to stop at parking spots if the campervan can fit within the parking booths, but if not, you have to seek out designated campervan parking areas. However, no one except for the police can write a fine and only parking officers can write a parking fee. Hope, this helps and enjoy the rest of the trip.
@WeWillNomadАй бұрын
@@TheOlesb Thank you! However, what you say regarding overnighting in a vehicle is not completely correct. This document makes clear what is allowed: naturstyrelsen.dk/media/xmkf4sr5/vejledningsnotat-om-autocampere.pdf

😂 No need to apologise! We're keeping a keen eye on the developments regarding motorhomes in Denmark. The only reason we think it was because of our vehicle registration is because we were recommended this spot by locals who were specifically told it was free! Either way, one individual won't ruin our appreciation for Denmark! Thanks for watching 😊

Not according to Danish law. But the point is rather whether he has the right to charge a fee for parking there.
@badfaceday7509Ай бұрын
The Danish legislation clearly states that there must be a clear and distinct sign stating that accommodation must be paid for if payment is taken. Normally it is done in 2 places, at the entrance to the area and in the accommodation area itself. In addition to stating that it costs something, a form of payment / place of payment must also be specified. The reason for the payment is unfortunately something caused by a few rotten vessels within "campers". People who have emptied their toilets, thrown away their waste (such as several large 120 liter bags, in nature, after which the municipality's employees have had to remove their waste / toilet contents, It is neither pleasant for these employees to take care of other people's shit, menstrual pads, or waste, and it's something that can cause diseases. So I think it's completely disorderly that you charge for this. At the same time, it's actually a lopsided competition for the campsites when you see a parking space 50 meters from the campsite driveway sees 10-15 motorhomes parked / staying overnight. In Denmark, there is also a law that forbids the public to run competing businesses, which is another reason for charging money or forbidding overnight stays. In Denmark there is not like in some other countries a general right to just spend the night where you want. The owner (also if it is the society) must say OK for you to spend the night if you want. Either by a general permit or by having you bear the right in some other way - possibly against payment. Finally, I think there are many Danes who do not know the difference between "camping" and "break". That is why there are also many who have been on the field and say that they think it becomes camping when you exceed a certain time limit - for example 4 or 6 hours. It would perhaps also be easier to understand, but probably somewhat more difficult to enforce.
