I like this Panther Ausf D kit by Tamiya. What is it with Tamiya? They're just the best. That's all I can say. I'm a fan of the IDF, and hopefully they'll cover the Israelis. Usually, Tamiya will cover an honest variety of subjects.

Great to see you back on KZbin again. Good looking build. For the smoke dischargers I either drill them out or use one of my round files. If I replace them with Dragon I will use the Tamiya ones for scratch build coofee cups out of them.

I just built that same kit!! Mine is awaiting paint as well. A few good-quality metal files are a must-have! They will last forever.
@AdamMann3D5 жыл бұрын
How did you find the kit? I will definitely get some decent files going forward.
@jamiesworkshop31985 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed building it. The kit is the regular version, but I also got the tracks and screens. Those tracks are really nice!! It's quite a contrast to Tamiya's old Panther kit which I built last year just for fun as a trip down memory lane. I'm a big fan of the newer Tamiya kits. I just want to have fun building and don't like getting bogged down with poor fitting parts and mega details. I also built the Matilda recently and that was a dream to put together.

I'm sending you this comment as a plea of help Adam. I'm a disabled combat veteran who's only in the last couple of years been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. That plus the injuries I received while in the military are now conspiring to keep me from working. This leaves me with an inordinate amount of time which I either must fill or slowly go insane. When I was much, much younger I used to while away the hours building scale models. I wasn't in the same class off artistry as you or Panzermeister 36 but I wasn't absolutely terrible either, giving the quality of the kits available back then and my financial situation. I even had a few models on display at the local hobby shop now and again. Being as you are one of the few real right counters on U-tube and knowing that one of the symptoms of Parkinson's is the inability to control the movement of one's extremities at time and knowing that, at present I don't own so much as a container of glue, much less spray gun, compressed, artists burshes,cotton swabs or even a table to put said on, Do you have any recommendations or am I on a fool's errand? I estimate it would cost somewhere in the vicinity of $250.00 not including the kit to start. I would like to start with German Panzer Mk V "Panther". I would have no idea which one to start with, there are so many that have floode the hobby. I know this is a question I should be asking my local hobby retailer but mobility is a real issue for me and I doubt if the local Sal Mart would be of much use. I've contacted you not only for the above reasons but I'm also more than a bit OCD so achieving less than the absolute best that can be done, regardless, would drive me to distraction. I know you're primarily a "Tiger" expert but would you please consider the questions and also what sort of reference material would be appropriate?
@AdamMann3D5 жыл бұрын
If you're looking for advice on which Panther kit to get i would actually suggest this Tamiya D. It has modern engineering and great fit. If there is anything else i can do to help just ask. I hope you can figure out a way to model that isn't too difficult. As a professional artist i can only imagine.

Just a suggestion for cutting PE, you may want to look into a pair of the u-star PE Scissors. I picked up a pair on Ebay, and they cut the PE off the tree beautifully, even with some of the thicker stuff. Still need to do some sanding but for that I use either a Blue or White Flory Models sander as those do quick work of the left over tab. I did find from my experience it's how you cut the PE off the tree (as in the angle of the cutter) as to if you will get the dimples (again just from my experience). If you'd be interested I got some REALLY thick Verlinden PE, I can give those scissors a try and post up a quick vid.

Good clean build Adam and the modifications you made make sense. The Tamiya PE is usually made from a mild stainless steel and their diamond file #74066 makes short work of the little "nubs".

You can use brass or aluminum tubes from a hobby shop or ACE Hardware to replicate the smoke dischargers instead of robbing kits. Before cutting them to length, take a razor saw or thin fine-tooth hacksaw and cut the notch into the end.

Wait... could it be... a Tamiya kit where a tank can't just be shaken out of the box??? Uh oh, these are strange times... Do you choose to live in Wisconsin on purpose and if so, why?
@AdamMann3D4 жыл бұрын
I think this is one of my favorite comments of all time. It's a very complicated question as well. My family has been in WI since before the civil war, before WI was even a state. So obviously I grew up here, and have always been here. The weird thing is both my parents and all my siblings have moved to other states. I'm the only one still here. But I like it. It's pretty some of the time, and Ice Planet Hoth the other 10 months of the year. As long as you stay away from cities the crime is pretty low as well, got kind of a Norman Rockwell/1950s vibe in the small town I'm in. When I was working in games in Madison it was sketchy. That's why we left. Most of the state is pretty sparsely populated, which suits me just fine. I'm not big on other people. Anyway, My wife loves it here, I feel connected to it, and I certainly liked growing up here. So my kids growing up here is not a bad thing. Do you have issues with Wisconsin?

Adam - periscope covers.....problem solved....use Tamiya Extra-thin, use PLENTY, and move the cover back and forth, while the plastic is still "liquid". This moves the molten plastic into the "holes", and solves that "gap" problem. Tamiya OFTEN has holes bigger than the part which goes into the hole, like with these covers. And just DRILL OUT those smoke grenade launchers!, LOL!.... But that muzzle brake is on YOU!..... Wtf?....You don't have some 400 grit in a sanding block?....KUTGW!....
