Before knowing about what she did to her daughter, I loved Munro and kept her in the highest esteem. Now, everything I read of her work is tainted with a sense of hypocrisy and disgust in me. I personally can't devide the writing and the person who wrote them. Interesting discussion in many ways, although you guys have painfully avoided the theme of today discussion for me. This man knew Munro, and spoke about how funny she was and that she made a nice gesture toward him, but HELLO? What about what she did to her daughter? Are we not addressing it at all? What the daughter experienced was the SILENCE of her close family and the society around her. Noone wanted to break the bubble of the international acclaimed artist/hero, and discuss morals perhaps, and I think you both did the same here, although the title and perhaps initial intention was different. Also, the beginning and the end is too abrupt, you may want to consider that next time.
