Lil Looney, saved me from a smoker that tried to make me give him some dope for a big ass wood grain foldable knife 🔪 almost like a machete. I didn't want no knife I wanted money, I was like 15 and dude was like in his late 20s, with some size on him. He was acting like he was going to stick me if I didn't give him the dope for that knife. We was on Hyde Park and Brynhurst Ave. Then, Lil Looney came out of nowhere and busted him on the side of his forehead with a quart bottle, and said..." !!He said, he didn't want no knife!!" The side of his face swoll-up instantly. He looked like the elephant man on one side. He looked at Lil Looney, as if he wanted some sympathy for his face swelling up, and Lil Looney said..."get the fuck on before I hit you again!" Dude took-off running.

I appreciate these true stories. Kev Mac lays it out there even the not so glamourous stuff like losing a fight, having to run, or shit not working out. Haha. Gotta tell the truth. That's what's up. Definitely. Appreciate these intimate conversations. It really shows the losses too. In one picture bam, a Impala on switches....the dream car come true, then bam 40 bullet holes in a car almost dying, prison and prison again. Lots and lots of terrible shit for that few days of shining. I'm glad Kev made it through to tell these stories, to get these interviews. This is much needed reality documentation of an era. Could seriously see this in a book with all of the polaroid pictures in the book. Monster Kody style but with pictures when they're available.

Older brothers are like that Kev Mac. They love you, and YOU KNOW they love you, but they just have their own way of showing it sometimes. But best believe if the shit was ever about to hit the fan, your family will stand TALL every single *ucking time! My older brother (3 years older than me. Born in '63) use to always talk to me like he was my father. By the time I turned 11 I wasn't having it. Now I'm talking back to him and more or less standing up for myself. He would say some real slick stuff to me, but he didn't want no reply from me. Now I turn 12. He's 15. The arguing is getting worse and louder. I'm not letting him say NOTHING to me besides "good morning." So my father is hearing this and decides to send me and my mother only to Texas after I graduated from Raymond Avenue Elementary School in 1978. So I do the 7th grade in Texas. Initially I'm feeling it. By myself. Don't have my older brother telling me what to do. No more whoopings from pops. Then one day towards the evening, I just started looking West towards the sunset. Did that the following day, then the day after that. Now I'm starting to realize why I'm looking West every evening around sunset. I'm starting to get homesick and I'm really missing my dad and truth be told, I'm really missing my big bro too. We didn't have a phone at our house where me and my mom lived. So whenever we needed to call my dad back here in L.A., we had to go over to my grandmother's house to make our calls. So now I've come to grips that I no longer want to be in Texas and I asked my grandmother if I could call my father. She said yes. I called pops and he wanted to know how were things going. I told him ok. I was a little nervous at first to ask him but I said it's now or never. So I said, "Dad... I want to come back home." He said "You do? Why?" So I went on to explain that I liked Texas but I miss him & my brother. Pops then told me that was why he sent me to Texas because me and my brother were starting to argue a lot. So he said cool. Once school lets out, you can come back out here. My dad owned that apartment building on the corner of 65th Place & Western Ave, directly across from that church they are remodeling right now. My dad bought that building in 1973. So I have a lot or know a lot of history in that neighborhood also. When I came back out here from Texas, I wanted to go to Horace Mann Junior High School. My father shot that down REAL QUICK and told me "NO!" You're going to John Muir Junior High!" I was pissed! Cause I could see the front of Horace Mann from the top of our steps. So I did the 8th & 9th grade at John Muir, and did all of my High School years at the famous and well known Crenshaw High School on the West Side. Loved my High School years! The best of everything! Bottom line Kev Mac, our older siblings do indeed love and care for us. Their method of loving us might not seem ideal for us at times, but we all just need to trust that in the end, they'll always have our best interests. ✌🏾 Quick side note Kev Mac. When I left in the summer of '78 to go to Texas, our neighborhood was relatively quiet. The 60's and the 8 Trays were more or less neutral. No issues. I do one year of school in Texas (the 7th grade) and when I come back out here, I was IMMEDIATELY informed on the new tension that had erupted between the 60's and the Trays over the death of Big Rick's little brother, Tyrone. The tension was SO THICK you could cut it with one of those saws they use to cut down trees with! And here we are now. Going into it's 46th year of complete kaos between the 60's and the 8 Trays going at each other's throats. Families on both sides suffering losses. It's a sad reality that none of us know if it'll ever end. R.I.P. to the fallen men & women from both sides that have passed on since 1979.
