Hey Abdul, thanks! That's very kind of you to say. I am posting the rest of this series by February 20th, so be looking for more expression tutorials at that time. Lots of stuff planned for 2018!

You need to easy ease the keyframes in order to display different numbers on the speeed value, otherwise is the same through the hole animation.

I know this video is old. 5 years later I’m wondering how you got the expression values in the panels? Was that just an animation or is there a script that can help with this. So handy for doing expressions.
@Animoplex Жыл бұрын
A few months late here, but that is animation that's added in post-production. You can check out a few plugins that do something similar. One is called Expressionist: aescripts.com/expressionist/

@@Animoplex aha. I thought it was a animation. I've learnt a lot since this comment. I discovered the "throw" function since then and can use it to help investigate variables values.
@Animoplex Жыл бұрын
@@broadcastbytes Amazing! Throw is good. A lot of debugging can be done with a text layer, just output results as the source text. If only AE had console.log() or something similar so you didn't have to throw an exception and stop evaluation.

I'm confused, speed is always measured against a distance traveled in time. What is AF using as a distance? Is like pixels per second or what? Of course same question on velocity which only differs from speed by have a directional component or vector.
@Animoplex6 жыл бұрын
You are correct, it is pixels per second. So a layer moving 200 pixels across 2 seconds will output a speed of 100. Same for velocity, except velocity will give you an array with each axis speed which you can see visualized at 5:15 in the video. Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks for asking!

Neat tutorial. I was wondering if there is a way to do this with multiple tracking points. I have a dash cam video and would like to get the speed of my vehicle by known distances from road markers and by using time code. How could I set up an expression to determine mph?
@Animoplex3 жыл бұрын
Interesting challenge! But expressions won't go very far in this scenario. In order to determine the speed, an expression needs a numerical input. Footage and image data alone won't work. Do you plan on manually placing markers on the timeline each time a road sign is in a specific spot? You could use an expression to count those and divide the time. Will you be tracking the scene objects somehow? How will you know what road signs to read and what number is on the sign?

Do you have any idea how to change the output speed value into m/s? Like 0px/s would still be zero, but to map whatever the speed is calculated at 5s to a different value output? or would it be best to just fake the text increasing?

Do you have clue how to do the following? I have animated value (for example zooming) And based on it´s velocity I wanna offset from sth. else (for example turbulent displace evolution). But not just using the value but adding the velocity up every Frame. Hope you understood what I mean^^ Thanks for the great content, keep it up man!
@Animoplex5 жыл бұрын
Can you define what sth is? If that's a variable you're trying to offset, what is it attached to? You could try a Loop expression which is one of the only ways to accumulate a value from one frame to the next. It can be a little buggy at times, so proceed with caution. Check out the tutorial here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXiWf6x-osuWZtU and here's the code to get you started: gist.github.com/animoplex/bcf2b9a63f11106a2a129d5e980f4831
