Fatlip could've been a legend as a solo artist. he's still dope to me even as a person. He moved to the beat of his own drum, maybe even to a fault. He's supposed to be releasing an album this month too. Salute Fatlip. Who should I do next?

Have you done Rass Kass...I think he was Kendrick Lamar before people were ready for it. .....Also AZ would be interesting. For a guy that could go bar for bar with Nas whenever they collaborate, had a classic debut album....solid follow ups...but somehow Nas went to the top 5 all time list (on many lists anyway) and AZ got stunted.

There's a Fatlip documentary by Spike Jonze called "What's Up Fatlip?", where he talks about what happened in his "Oh Shit" verse. The doc was made back in '99, while Spike Jonze was filming the music video for the "What's Up Fatlip?" single. It was put together from all the extra footage they had, and multiple candid interviews that Spike filmed in between takes. The full doc is about 45 minutes long, and Fatlip tells the whole story about his career during and after the Pharcyde. The documentary was included as bonus material on the 2003 Spike Jonze Director's Séries DVD. The same DVD also includes the making of Pharcyde's "Drop" video, audio commentary from the group, and behind the scenes / interviews with the Pharcyde.

FATLIP was the best member of The Pharcyde his lyricism+flow his physical appearance and charisma just stood out from the rest of the members. But alot of the times when you have a rap group there's always one mc that stands out but they can never hold their own solo wise (Grand Puba, Sticky Fingaz)!! I purchased his solo album and it's a half-ass album his voice has changed and the beats aren't that good. But lyrically he's still really tight the song what's up FATLIP is really good but the other songs are half-ass. Busta Rhymes is the perfect example of leaving a group and becoming a superstar but everyone definitely isn't Busta. I just hope FATLIP has gotten over his demons and is doing good 👍🏾

Me looking back now, I'm not gonna speak into existence a woman passing me by. I used to love them as a group. But thinking back my mental health or security in pleasing myself first wasn't there then.

I love your series. It's given me a renewed interest in 90s-00s hiphop music. I remember a lot of the artists you cover for their one or two hits. I was wondering if you could cover Lil Jon and his affiliates like Lil Scrappy, Trillville. Or cover Trick Daddy. Again you're quite the archiver/presenter. This could easily be a program on MTV2 HipHop sundays back in the day.

At THAT time? Fat Lip had the same issue every emcee had trying to be successful, or heard- that was the era of the powerful industry, and radio, that was running everything. They wanted hits! They wanted that sound! They wanted ratings, spins, advertisement, and profit! Then you had the taste makers, or rather gatekeepers of hip hop- it wasn’t the audience that chose who was worthy, it was in the hands of the elite heads of radio, hip hop, and clubs.. the DJs had the power.. A&R.. Fat Lip would’ve made it HUGE, if he was of this era.. but, he wasn’t.. he was during the true golden era, the grimy 90s.. too many emcees were hungry, and I mean starving to make it in the industry, and get a deal.. I remember all of this.. I remember copping the cassette, getting the single at Specs, and Sam Goody.. then seeing the videos on Rap City(Joe Clair & Big Lez) era.. what a time..
