There's a Fatlip documentary by Spike Jonze called "What's Up Fatlip?", where he talks about what happened in his "Oh Shit" verse. The doc was made back in '99, while Spike Jonze was filming the music video for the "What's Up Fatlip?" single. It was put together from all the extra footage they had, and multiple candid interviews that Spike filmed in between takes. The full doc is about 45 minutes long, and Fatlip tells the whole story about his career during and after the Pharcyde. The documentary was included as bonus material on the 2003 Spike Jonze Director's Séries DVD. The same DVD also includes the making of Pharcyde's "Drop" video, audio commentary from the group, and behind the scenes / interviews with the Pharcyde.

At THAT time? Fat Lip had the same issue every emcee had trying to be successful, or heard- that was the era of the powerful industry, and radio, that was running everything. They wanted hits! They wanted that sound! They wanted ratings, spins, advertisement, and profit! Then you had the taste makers, or rather gatekeepers of hip hop- it wasn’t the audience that chose who was worthy, it was in the hands of the elite heads of radio, hip hop, and clubs.. the DJs had the power.. A&R.. Fat Lip would’ve made it HUGE, if he was of this era.. but, he wasn’t.. he was during the true golden era, the grimy 90s.. too many emcees were hungry, and I mean starving to make it in the industry, and get a deal.. I remember all of this.. I remember copping the cassette, getting the single at Specs, and Sam Goody.. then seeing the videos on Rap City(Joe Clair & Big Lez) era.. what a time..

They actually maxed out for he lane they were in. Did very well, wouldn't consider their run as "stunted".
