I love nights like this, "ahhh it's good enough, were just going to send it". Then it breaks and you think "ahhh maybe i shouldn't have sent it..." Lol! But when it works better than you originally had thought and you sent it! Those are the best times! Good luck guys i hope your trucks kick some butt!

It's a new aftermarket casting.... for testing purposes.... only one way to find out how much power it will hold....

I was told to never spin your crankshaft on the bearings with out the main caps seated fully because one you can spin a bearing up out of the saddle and two the bearing isn't a perfect circumference in the saddle until the cap is torqued and it can deflect the bearing and turning it CV and wear what ever spot that is high from it not being set and can cause premature wear on your bearing surface but I thought that was absurd because I have run way to much power and timing on stock junk on a rebuild and beat the snot out of many rebuilds and if your tolerances are good when you put It together they look fine after but I thought I would say something and see what you were guys think
@derekperry39513 жыл бұрын
Also he didn't check baring clearance.. At lease i didn't see
@pddofficial3 жыл бұрын
Cummins engines are heavy duty and overbuilt for the most part, you can get away with a lot! But technically, you are correct that the bearings are more out of round prior to torquing down the mains.
@pddofficial3 жыл бұрын
Good eye, and yes it's proper to check clearance with the bearing installed and main torqued down prior to installing the crankshaft... Will is a bad example for proper engine building techniques...

Good video. What's the name of that air shutoff
@pddofficial3 жыл бұрын
The air shutoff is a shocker pass, it was produced by Arch Stalnaker, not sure if ole Arch is still selling them. We can say that it's been reliable at over 200 psi boost so the body of the shutoff is plenty strong. We've shut it off around 120 psi boost and it worked flawlessly.

My 02 Dodge Cummins HO has a stock 6 speed manual transmission. Would recommend putting a automatic transmission in it. And if so what kind?
@pddofficial3 жыл бұрын
If you plan to go much past 700 HP, which is difficult on a VP44 injection pump, that 6 speed will become unreliable when you use the power. But all it needs to work well below that power level is a good double disk clutch. If you want to race it, or build a mean street machine for those closed course street races, the automatic will shave a full second off the 1/4 mile time and make the truck a blast! If you go with an automatic, I'd do an 850 HP rated 47re with a full manual valve body. The 850 comes standard with a billet output shaft, so you can opt to go with the larger 29 spline output shaft which is compatible with your "manual transmission" transfer case's 29 spline input shaft.

@@pddofficial my idea is a very reliable truck to pull a 35’ or 40’ trailer where ever I need to go. A new ram 2500 is just way out of price. My Dodge Ram is very good but I need more power. I’m sure my 505 foot pounds is lacking, but I see y’all 1100 foot pounds out trucks with little effort. I like!!!

Will the crank still spin freely all torqued in? I have tore down 2 Cummins (core's) that were stubborn to spin.
@CumminsWorks3 жыл бұрын
Freshly polished crank with new bearings and good lube is lots of spiny spiny! Plus it’s a higher clearance race motor, so that helps.
@pddofficial3 жыл бұрын
If they don't spin freely, the bearing clearance is WAY TOO tight.

Did I see the main bearings have discoloration on them? If they were what's the reason for that.
@mustangdemon873 жыл бұрын
They looked like a WPC type coating. Maybe race bearings
@pddofficial3 жыл бұрын
Normal coloration as they come out of the box from Mahle, they are HX series main bearings.

@@pddofficial that's interesting, I'm not an engine builder by any stretch but did stay at a holiday inn so there's that. I've seen engine's being built on your channel and other's but never seen that. Are those actual steel bearings or is that the coating reacting to the bearing material.
