Van Cleef and Arpels is an older company than Jacob by 90 years, so who copied who? They started 1896

No, they are better. Jacob watches have some nice engineering, but many of them are ugly and impractical. You almost have to wear an armsling if you want to avoid bumping one of his protruding glass-domed watches into a hard surface. A watch has to be wearable, like the 3 watches in this video; not just for showing off spinning planets while the watch itself looks like a tumor growing on the hand.
