Actually Germany is not voting for the new chaneclor but political parties. Even if Baerboek is seen as the better chancelor, people will vote for the politic of a party.
@martinv.3523 жыл бұрын
A lot of voters will be undecided this time. I assume, this time we will get a personal vote because a lot of conservative voters in the south of Germany can not imagine Armin Laschet as chancellor. We had this effect in former times with bavarian candidates (Strauss, Stoiber) which were non-electable for the northern voters (remember the "stopp Strauss" campaign). And in Germany, you have got two votes: one for your local candidate and one for the party. So you can vote both your local CDU/CSU candidate (first vote) and (Zweitstimme= second vote) the Green party and chancellor Baerbock.
@questionmark32193 жыл бұрын
@@martinv.352 I don't see the bavarian conservatives voting for Baerbock and i don't see her actually winning. Why voting for a party that wants to raise taxes, establish new taxes, ban cars in certain cities without investing in any other kind of infrastructure? It's already clease they will more debt than any party. It will probably something like 25% CDU and 23% Greens. Both parties could form a coalition then with Laschet as chancellor.
@martinv.3523 жыл бұрын
@@questionmark3219 I am from Bavaria and I know several default CSU voters in my surrounding which do prefer Baerbock instead of Laschet ("now it's time...") It is all astonishing for me, too. The green politics gets braked in a coalition with another party. Government decisions are always weaker than election speaches. Till now, every party in Germany has been an increase-tax party, independent from election speaches. Really important would be to increase the level of the maximum income tax. At the moment, this is 52.000 EUR income per year in Germany and 300.000 EUR in the U.S. Moving this frontier is much more important than all other taxes. And in Germany, a married couple without children pays much less taxes than a single parent with six childs. The traditional parties do not want to change this.

@@questionmark3219 why vote for a party that wants to cut taxes and encourage a model which has been proved to be full of problems?

But we can vote for the chancellor indirectly. The people vote the parliament. The parliament elects the chancellor. If a lot of people vote for the Greens and other parties that might support Annalena Baerbock (parts of the FDP and Linke), of course the popular vote has a huge influence on who will become chancellor.

In Germany, there was a cut in political thinking in 1968 (in the US, it was Woodstock/flower power..., in Germany, it was more political), we call this generation "die 68er" (the 68's). Most people in Germany who are at least 80 years old now did not participate this cut, but most people who were young in 1968 (now they are 75 years old), made this cut in the brain. That means: The voters who are always voting CDU/CSU are vanishing. Most younger people have no problem voting the Green party, especially the middle and higher class with good education. As the others said, we are not in france. There is exactly one round. You can vote for the candidate of your district (that's a FPTP vote) and for the party you want to reign in Germany for the next years (thus ensuring propertional representation). At the end of the day every party which got more than 5% of the representative vote or won in a district gets a seat (there is some complicated math in play how the seats are spread out). And then the party with the most votes has to go into coalition in order to command more than 50% of the seats.

It's funny: 26 minutes and not a word about the SPD. Which proves my theory: if you are number 2 in a coalition, you're not gonna become number 1 in the next election. I've learned it the hard way in Israel (where I was born and raised): the Israeli Labor party was the party in power for the first 29 years of Israel's existence, and was Israel's biggest center-left party until the beginning of the 2000s. But then... They entered a "Grand Coalition" (or, as we call it in Israel, "Government of National Unity") with the Likud (center-right) party, where the Likud was the leader (the prime minister was from there, Sharon). That was good for the country (at least in the short term), but terrible for the Labor party, whose demise started then and there. In the last several rounds of election (and Israel has many of those...) they actually were at risk of not passing the threshold (3.25%) of getting seats in the parliament.
@Psi-Storm3 жыл бұрын
Yes. At the end of the video they said a conservative green coalition would bring new ideas and change to the country. But that isn't what the cdu did with the spd. The cdu is conservative, they oppose change. The coalition partner with the cdu can get mini victories in some small cases, but 95% of the politics is business as usual. Biden just announced he wants to raise the capital gains tax from 20% to 43% to pay for a part of all the new investments. In Germany we pay 25% for that. Neither the CDU nor the liberal FDP would go along with such an idea. Their lobby instruments came up with the great idea to change to working age to 70 instead, to let the workers pay for it.

@EatONLYVegetables Please its not about climate, all major parties and industries already started to move into that direction. thats a given, even china is making a move. its about destroying the very base of europes (already fading) power and position in the world. we dont need dreamers and ideologists, we need peoole that will guarantee a strong future europe in global comparison. we will be eaten alive by other great powers that dont care about human rights and so on. people are living in a protective bubble and dont realize that parties like the green party are willingly destroying it. its gonna be a rough awakening for many if that trend continues (and I think it will)

An election fight between Söder and Baerbock would have been a hard fight on eye-level (Söder has also very green points of view and is relatively young), Laschet and Baerbock won't be.
