I think the house lures in people who suffered through accidents like losing somebody close to you, like a spouse. The neighbor that visited, said that she knew the house, I would like to think that she lived there once before, after she lost her husband (she mentions that she and her husband live nearby, but then pauses and states that she lives there, making out that her husband no longer lives there) and she probably moved out because of the hallucinations or was coming to terms with her husband's death and then moved out, she could have been in that house before the player moved in. Either that or she and the husband got a divorce, and she always saw people moving in and out of the house, and probably knew of the curse that came with that house. That's just my two takes on this game, it was very well made for being a free game :>

So, this is what I believed happened. Wife was about to deliver, so he was trying to take her to hospital. They had an accident and he was the only survivor. He developed what is known as “survivors guilt”. It is believed that dreaming with houses are an unconscious message of moving on, specially if it’s a house you’ve never been to, so instead of thinking that what happens in the game is supernatural, I will take it as psychological. So he dreams about the house, because the loss is too great and his brain is sending him an unconscious message of moving on, it might be the same house every dream because it makes him feel “familiar”. So he founds out that the house exists and moves in to calm that idea in his brain. I think the neighbor was the wife in the recordings, and I think her child died in that house, and the husband committed suicide due to that grief. She moved because of that and sold the property many years ago. She might have sense the sadness that the player had and that was why she was trying to check in, because it reminded her of her husband before committing suicide. Since now the player calmed down the moving idea, but still feels guilty his brain has nothing else to keep itself busy, and that’s why he starts having nightmares with his wife. Nightmares don’t allow you to get proper rest, and that combined with trauma, extreme change of ambient, and constant annoying sound can lead to hallucinations. There was a leak (I think kitchen or one bathroom was atop of that basement area, so that can happen, specially if the house of old), but it was a small one. He started to see it bigger because he was loosing his mind, and so it became a symbol of how his thoughts were drowning him, but he didn’t have the strength to stop them. That’s where the labyrinth part comes in. In his guilt he build a labyrinth in his mind. A bunch of questions, a bunch of different scenarios of that day his wife died if he had done something different, etc. And thus you find yourself choosing between getting lost (committing suicide), or getting out (move on, try to heal the mind from what happened). When you choose to get out, you find out that the leaking is there, but is not as bad as you were seeing it, and it can be solved with help. When you choose to get lost, well, you see everything to be too much to handle until it drowns you. The vhs were real, but he might have seen more stuff due to his mental state. He probably felt identified with how the husband acted and thus, started to see himself and his feelings on the man. The last one though… Sounded like he saw the guy taking his own life…

I don’t think he built a literal labyrinth, I think he meant he built it in his mind amidst his grief and had to overcome the mental obstacles of his survivors guilt. The house itself might even be a metaphor for the place that all people like him go when faced with the same grief. That or the house symbolized the lost future he had with his wife and their unborn child and the house might’ve been a bit haunted as well. Who knows? The decent into madness though was really well done and very creepy. 10/10 loved it, was very on edge the whole time lol

I thought that the house symbolized him, and the nasty goo that kept getting bigger represented his grief and guilt taking over. He says he “knows it’s there and he should fix it, but it’s making him so sick and uncomfortable, that he can’t bring himself to do anything about it”just like his guilt from the accident. He was trapped inside this house, aka himself, because he didn’t want to deal with his trauma that consumes him.

The Labyrinth he created was not a physical one, but a labyrinth in his own mind where he was stuck in a spirling depresion and he couldn't escpe and that is where the scary dreams and thoughts of suiside came from. He did not build a maze under his house to stop the insanity. He got stuck in his insanity and guilt a grief. In one ending he kills himself, and in the other he fights it. I really like the premise of stories that are like "There is no ghost, there's only grief" where their loved one didn't become angry and didn't come back, but they're just regretting things/mourning so hard that it feels to them as though they _are_ being haunted, even though they know deep down that they aren't in reality.

Last year, my grandma died, she lived up there in Utah, my family and my other grandma went up there, but half way through the service, I just started breaking down in tears, and I left the room and I sat on one of the chairs and I fell asleep. And then it was time to see her get buried but I didn't want to leave the car, I couldn't do it, my was very close to my grandma, but my other grandma kept trying to get me to get out of the car, and that's when my dad stepped in and told her to just leave me alone. My dad understood that I couldn't do it. I miss my grandma everyday, but I know that she's watching over me ever since that day. Whenever I think of her, I just feel at peace, I don't feel sad when I think of her and I agree with Jay. Most people don't want to see, something that they loved for the last time it's a good thing, because they don't want to go through that pain, and I understand that that's what I wanted to do at my grandmas funeral, I didn't want to go through that pain, my grandma was such a sweet person, her nickname was the candy grandma, because she would always give me and my brother candy every time we went there. But I miss her every single day of my life. If any of anyone who is reading this comment has lost someone or an animal very important to them, just know that it will get better, eventually, you'll get over that grief and it will take some time, but you will get over it and when you do, you will just feel at ease and feel so much peace inside of you basically what I'm trying to say is don't let the grief control your life try to work through it, tried to do things that you like doing, but still has those memories of that special, somebody that you lost or pet that you lost and keep them in your mind as you do it.

I agree with you on the funeral bit. My guess is that the ending with the "labyrinth" is meant to be symbolic, a metaphor for feeling trapped and lost. I think this game is a huge metaphor, the house, the labyrinth, the monster, etcetc, I think it's meant to put an internal struggle into a physical setting to really make you feel their pain... Overall this seems like a really well made game, and especially with the writing, and I really enjoyed watching your gameplay of it!
@youtubezanimeartfanz3973 Жыл бұрын
I pictured that the house was the player, the leak represented the guilt he was carrying. The more he ignored how he felt, it got bigger. Either he lets that guilt consume him or he fixed the "leak" and continued on with his life ❤❤❤

I agree with the theories in the comments that this house is a place where people go when they lose someone or are going through extreme grief. At 26:18 the way the main character talks about the leak in the ceiling sounds like depression. Often you feel like you should do something about your depression, but you are often repulsed or have no energy to deal with it. So you just ignore it. I must say I am impressed with the theme of this game and how the creator put so much effort into portraying the story through these metaphors. It's a really nice game and I really enjoyed Jay playing this.

There actually is! I heard someone also with ADHD who said that they never actually heard silence until they took their ADHD meds and they never actually understood silence because they could always hear something

1:53 I went to my childhood best friend's funeral(they were 14) it was an open casket and I literally couldn't stomach going to up say goodbye. I'm glad I did go though, i didn't speak which I regret but I'm glad I went.

Hey Jay, can you play a game called "The Final Pin"? It's a newer horror game with an awesome story that's also a little emotional. I think you'd love it!
