I was thinking that whatever happened to Darcy was so horrible that she wanted to abandon her identity and pretend to be another. The closest person she knew was Heather so she took her identity, however, it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Heather was the first one the entity was controlling before it and professor Murphy decided to abduct Darcy the one Heather in this case the entity is interested to. That twisted and demented body is actually Heather's but in this case, Darcy who switched body with the entity that's why when the police found her with the body she tried to escape.

Actually, I think Heather (the corpse in the photo) was the entity for awhile and she was interested in Darcy because she wanted to switch bodies with her. That’s why Darcy reported Heather, because Darcy was herself during the project. So the whole scene with the professor, Heather, and Darcy was a ritual to switch the entity from Heather to Darcy, which is why Darcy was tied to a chair, suddenly aggressive, and why the entity still thinks it’s name is Heather. The body mangling could be two things, the body it’s previously in gets torn apart when switching bodies or the Hunter still thought it was the entity and destroyed the body (though it doesn’t appear to have the same puncture spot where we see Darcy die in two of the endings, unless the body shrivels up or the hunter does other screwed up sh!t to it that we just never see on screen)

you should watch manlybadasshero for ending 4/5 spoiler [you just question her and point out her mistakes and right after she tells you she couldn't have killed the other person at the crime scene the MC jus kinda gives up on questioning on her and gives her towards someone else to interview. the other person also comes up empty with interviewing her, a few hours later "dacey's" body is found the same way the person at crime scene but without a head besides 5/5 this is the happness ending you can get] i think the only way you can get this ending is if you don't look at J.M. notes about what exacty you're dealing with and you do this on your first try

16:03 (is where im at) I think what happened was that Darcy got kidnapped normally, but during her kidnap the entity transferred into her body. When the police found her, she thought that they were the dangerous creatures trying to find her-which is why she tried to run. Eventually she can feel the creature close by and needs to tell to whole story-but she is trying to remember things and mixes up names and such. Edit: nevermind 🙁
