Hi Wade! Aside from playing around with the exposure dial, SX-70 film is rated for around 160 ISO, so it’s mostly suited for bright conditions. In an indoor setting, the SX-70 is going to err towards slower shutter speeds, unless you use your flash bar. Polaroid film is also pretty temperature dependent. If you let it develop in a cooler environment, your Polaroids will have a bluish tint to them, while warmer development temperatures will lean towards a more magenta-ish hue.

The "i-type" film polaroid sells is the same film but without the battery and its for the newer cameras.

It looks like you need your camera serviced. It’s not supposed to take bad pictures, if it does it’s broken! Send it to be serviced, it’ll save you a lot of anger and money on film. These cameras are now 40-50 years old, they need to be overhauled. My SX-70 and SLR 680 takes consistently good photos, well exposed and in focus. Also remember to use flash indoors, get a flash for your camera.
