When I was a conscript I had a commanding officer who startet his career in the East German Army. He was about as old as my father. Funny how it can go both ways.

Forests and overgrown fields filled with T-72s, BMP-1s, BTRs, Russian made trucks, helicopters, artillery, etc... Still there. The people making the videos said they think it is being destroyed but it is still sitting there. There are recent videos of smaller bases probably about battalion sized where they go into barracks. The old communist propaganda paintings decaying on the walls, most of the furniture gone. They exit the building and in the overgrown bushes and weeds outside are piles of rotting gas masks and field gear. Just dumped and left behind. The Bundeswehr did not truly empty out all the bases. It has been over 25 years since the DDR ceased to exist and it seems all they did was say, "yes we cleaned them out, just post the off limits sign, and let's go retire. We'll let them worry about what's left when they sell the base." The videos are on here just look them up.

@justicartiberius87824 жыл бұрын
Of course I'm also mixed. Germans are mostly a mixture between western germanic, northern germanic, celtic, Baltic and Slavic people. And then we have to consider every individual family history. Maybe there was an Italian in my family tree since my family is shorter and darker than most Germans. It's not so much about ethnicity but culture and identity. The very same ethnicity would adapt entirely differently if they would be separated and put in opposite places on the world map. When they would meet they would have evolved completely different cultures, morale values and social structures. It's not about ethnicity, it's about what millions and millions of people created over thousands of years that makes a nation and people unique. Also many migrants that came here after the war are now more German than anything else. Even if many don't feel like it and even if we have national identity problems with immigrants, they are still socialized like Germans and foreigners would see their behavior as very German.

Thank you for the great video!Japan won the battle with Germany in the 1914 Battle of Qingdao, and many German prisoners of war were brought to Japan.It is a story in The Bando POW camp.Toyohisa Matsue was chosen as the chief of the Bando Camp.Matsue was a soldier of the Japanese Army. He ordered his men not to treat German POW absolutely like a criminal.He ordered his men to treat the German POWs with kindness.Japan did not want a war with Germany. At that time, Britain and Japan were allies. There was a request from the United Kingdom, and it became a battle with Germany.There were about 1000 German prisoners of war who came to the Bando camp. Matsue began talking to the Germans.I will write his words briefly and briefly. "you guys was a patriot and a brave soldier. We Japanese promise to not treat you badly. We do not undermine your honor," the chief said to the Germans. At this time, the Japanese government decided to introduce German technology to Japan from Germans. Japan ordered each camp to receive guidance from German soldiers in all areas.There were leaders in each of the German prisoners of war, such as politics, economics, teaching of musical instruments, bread making, sausages, whiskeys, beer brewing, etc.The Japanese received instruction from them. Germans taught Japanese people how to grow vegetables that were not grown before at the farm.Among the camps were exercise facilities, a bread factory, a beer factory, a dairy farm and farms.It is more correct to say that it is a German village than a camp. Japan treated Germans as friends.Japan permitted POWs to do sports, cultural activities and arts.A music group formed by German POWs played the first Ludwig van Beethoven symphony No. 9 in Japan.Germans were paid a salary. Salaries were also paid when Germans worked nearby.The Japanese provided goods, money, etc. so that Germans would not be troubled in their lives.There were many exercise facilities in the camp. The sports team formed by the prisoners of war played technical training on soccer in Japan by playing against the Japanese team.At the Narashino camp, excursions to sightseeing spots were often conducted to have Germans enjoy it.There was a restaurant in Bando Camp. There was also a Japanese-owned store. They were free to shop.There were also merchants coming and going to the camp, where they could buy alcohol, daily necessities and sweets.When the German defeat was decided, the Germans were no longer prisoners of war, and their outings were totally free. There was a lot of interaction between the people of the city and the Germans. We offered tea and sweets to Germans who came to play, and taught Japanese culture.The Germans gave a present to the Japanese a few days before they returned home. Thanks to that, the Japanese invited them to the town's house and let them eat a lot of food.And we had a farewell party at each house. At the last farewell, the townspeople saw off the marching Germans.Many Germans remained in Japan. They set up a company in Japan and married a Japanese. The company founded by Germans is now a big company. Japanese people continue to support by buying many at German made shops.After the war, Germans who spent time in the camp sent Japan many letters of thanks to Japan.Thank you very much to everyone in Germany. May God bless the German people!We Japanese love Germany and Germans. We Japanese love Germany and Germans very much.Germany and Germans are the best in the world. God bless Germany and Germans.Japan's national anthem Kimigayo was made by Hayashi Hiromori and German Franz Eckert.Japan made the constitution, medicine, the army in by reference to Germany during the Meiji era. Japan succeeded in modernizing thanks to Germany. Japan learned a lot from Germany.There are two Germans statues at the University of Tokyo in Japan. There are many other German statues in Japan. Germany is a Japanese teacher.I always pray to God for the eternal happiness and peace of Germany. We Japanese sent 9,000 cherry blossom trees to Germany in 1990. It is said that the money of this cherry blossom trees is gathered by the donation of the Japanese and bought a cherry blossom trees . Almost all Japanese people participated in donations. The Japanese always cooperate with Germany.This cherry blossom tree is still in Berlin.We Japanese love Germany and Germans very much. Japan imports many German products to support Germany. The most imported cars in Japan are German cars.Most of the cars that run in my town are German cars.This is a story that Japanese people helped Germans in japanese Okinawa Miyakojima, Japan. At that time, the islander rescues the crew.They gave some food to the Germans.They gave Germans a place to sleep. The days were 34 days.And the islanders put a lot of food and water on the ship and sent the Germans to Germany safely.There are still monuments sent from Germany in Okinawa.Japan will always help Germans from now on. After the war, the German city was destroyed and many Germans were killed. We Japanese are very sad about that. I pray to God that Germany will never be unhappy again. There is a tower in my town praying for the Germans soul to be saved.

Japan won the battle with Germany in the 1914 Battle of Qingdao, and many German prisoners of war were brought to Japan.It is a story in The Bando POW camp.Toyohisa Matsue was chosen as the chief of the Bando Camp.Matsue was a soldier of the Japanese Army.

If you ask me Germany was to harshly punished after both World Wars, Germany deserves to be strong and Prussia shouldn't of been taken form Germany, as it was the German Kingdom that united the Country to begin with, they Destroyed the German nation and today is a dull shell of its former glory
@darthkillhoon7 жыл бұрын
ww1 in the west started because France wanted Auslos Lorain back from Germany, and in the East it was because Austria had to get revenge on the Serbs for the Hier to the Austrian thrones death at the hands of an assassin. ww2 was started because the treaty of Versailles was unfair to the Germans so they were looking to anyone to be a kind of strong Kaiser like figure to make Germany mighty again, you gotta view it not just from your perspective in another Country, the Germans were pissed that's why to turned to a man who promised a strong Germany and to punish who they though stabbed them in the back after ww1, which the only reason why Germany surrendered in that war was the British Blockade where German citizens were starving in the streets, the German Army was never truly defeated in that war. Let me ask you if America was in a war and we lost it how would feel? on top of that Imagine if they had to pay trillions of dollars in reperation which puts your economy in shambles, mass unemployment, restricted Military size, part of your land being occupied by Foreign troops, how would you feel? Would be pissed and strive for revenge to make your country great again and feared by your neighbors who previously just went and backhanded you everyday for the rest of your life? BTW what if Communist revolutionaries sieze your state capitol and say this now a people's republic or socialist republic all because your government isn't allowed to have a large standing army, that happened in the Bavarian state of Germany where they were an unstable Communist State from 1918 to 1919 and the only reason it was put down was armed German Veterans who came and reclaimed the state for your people, also guess why the Nazis targeted Jews, because in the Communist uprising one of the groups heavily funding the groups were Jewish bankers, and the revolt was lead by a Hungarian Jew, now if a certain people invaded your land you would feel animosity toward those people. I'm not anti-Semitic, I'm decent of Jews but I can see why many people hated them in Germany at that time, don't be so narrow minded look at it from another view point from time to time

Yes the eastern half was treated harshly, but at the same time the Germans were pretty horrible to the Soviets and Polish citizens. Also the Poles lost half of their historical land along with the Germans. As for the monarchy I am very torn, especially after reading biography on him. A fairly interesting video that left out a lot of information. For instance, that by the end of 1956, of the thirty-eight Generals commanding the West German Bundeswehr, thirty-one of them had served in the Wehrmacht, with seven of them even being wanted by the Allies for atrocities committed during WWII. What’s not widely known is that the FDJ, so often exclusively associated with the GDR, was originally an organisation covering the whole of the country (and also the UK until 1946, with its HQ being in London during WWII), but it was banned in West Germany on 26 June 1951 for being "unconstitutional" after its members started an embarrassing referendum questioning the rearmament and re-militarisation of West Germany that was being pursued by the Adenauer government at the behest of the American military powers. What was also conveniently "forgotten" was that the very few Volksarmee members (officers and rank and file) who were absorbed into the Bundeswehr at that point also received 30 percent less wages. That also applied to those East German who became Bundeswehr soldiers after the initial "takeover". In fact, that was only rectified in 2010. However, then as now, East Germans who join the Bundeswehr are treated as second-class soldiers, just as former GDR citizens and now East Germans are treated as second-class citizens. MsG
@dernwine7 жыл бұрын
I mean it would virtually be impossible for the Bundeswehr in 1956 *not* to have had most of their Generals serve in the Wehrmacht. The fact is you need to be at the height of your career to be a Staff Officer and that means you need to have a certain amount of age and experience. In 1956 anyone over the age of 30 probably had served in the Wehrmacht at some point and you are not going to get a 23 year old General in any army. Und ehrlich ich glaube jemand will mitleid bekommen, wie werden Ostdeutsche den schlecht behandelt? Muessen die Ostdeutschen den gelt andauernt abgeben um Westdeutschland wieder aufzubauen?
@gionncaomhinmorpheagh47917 жыл бұрын
Fairy nuff! I can see your point with regard to officers and experience. It seems, however, that you decided to ignore the fact that seven of those generals were wanted by the Allies for war crimes at the time. Or is that unimportant in view of the fact that all of those generals had to be specifically approved by the allied commanders?
