LYRICS:
ever-flowing white ghosts form on my fingertips
balanced in peace, dancing in light
my grip blooms and blossoms forever more
incubated, in silence we find tranquility
distilled into memories, we shut off, retired among the infinite
we aim for balance standing on cannonballs, outside the battlefields
we aim for balance standing on cannonballs
we slam on clay and dig deep, and labyrinth trenches around craters we call home
such an amazing defeat
RAGE, I will put this all back inside of me
ghosts of my past lift me up, carry me through blinding night
RAGE, find me beneath the iron mines, below 10,000 lakes, find me beyond the pines
now face your back to the storm, forget the shelters you would seek before
let your feet hit the ground, don't look back to where the siren sounds
we aim for balance standing on cannonballs, outside the battlefield
we aim for balance standing on cannonballs
we slam on clay and dig deep, and labyrinth trenches around craters we call home
such an amazing defeat, we misplace dreams and study braille throughout the dark
and there’s hope for a better future, and theres hope for a better life
RAGE, I will put this all back inside of me
ghosts of my past lift me up, carry me through blinding night
RAGE, join me beneath the iron mines, below 10,000 lakes, join me beyond the pines

This is from a Revolver interview with Anthony: "When you listen back to the material, is there a song or moment you find hard to listen to? There’s one in particular that when we would be in a room soundchecking or line-checking, Justin would always play this really pretty riff, over and over again. A lot of the times, when it would happen early in the day, when people were just waking up, it was soothing before the noise came. That’s in one of our new songs. It’s hard to listen to that. Extremely hard. Even just talking about it… It’s one of those songs, if we end up playing it live, and I’m afraid we will, that will be really hard to play." I think he is talking about this song :(

you're correct i just found this" The strange thing is that the song has a big part of Justin in it. i'm glad they paid respect to justin's intro riff and they transformed the song into a single overarching theme of badassery. i love that every ATB record has that one token "happy" song, and this sure as hell breaks any expectations i had.

+John Doe It's from his demo reel he posted right before he passed away. Just type in "My Demo Reel" on KZbin and you'll find it. You can find it at the 6:16 mark. He actually had more written to it, but they changed it. Honestly, I prefer the way JUSTIN had it, keeping the same slow tempo after, but the new riff is still cool. Just the heavy tempo change and stuff kinda kills the vibe for me.. There's a lot of cool stuff on there. That groovy and heavy riff from Deluge (starting around 1:39 in the song) can even be found on there if I'm not mistaken.

+Lorenzo Furlanis I'm pretty Justin contributed 100% to the writing off this album. I don't think he tracked much; I remember in an interview Anthony saying he got to the studio after Justin had his breakdown and returned to Minnesota. I doubt much of the album was changed after his death, because as far as I know they were done recording and I doubt any of them would want to go back and re-write/re-track after the news. (If I'm wrong and they did re-record stuff after Justin died then let me know)

Man, this song is by far the best on the album. I mean, the whole album is truly amazing, and you can feel the emotion pouring out of it, but this song is just so bittersweet. Having the riffs from part of Justin's demo reel is a great homage to him, and the lyrics speak many levels about his passing. It's truly one of After The Burial's best songs. Riff In Paradise, Justin. You will be deeply missed.

it's crazy that a year after this album dropped it started hitting him for me. this is my favorite band until I die. I have their wolves amongst ravens cover art on my arm covering up an ex girlfriends name on my arm. it's crazy when the only thing I could think to cover it up with is after the burial. Justin reminds me so much of a close friend of mine that passed away in a car wreck years ago. we would jam every week. we clicked so good. we we're best friends. it hits me hard right now listening to this song from my favorite band that has lost their golden member but keep playing his beautiful writing to continue to share him. I know this is a long comment but I didn't know where else to put this. bottom line is that I love this song. amazing work guys.

“I have their wolves amongst ravens cover art on my arm covering up an ex girlfriends name” I’m surprised they even let you get that tat. There’s usually an unspoken rule that they don’t do names unless it’s your kid, your own name, or someone close to you who died.

I believe that *AIRHORN* wasn't solely for novelty reasons. While it caught me off guard at first and made me think WTF, it was the slight relief the song needed to not overload one with too much emotion especially on the first listen. Any ATB fan of at least the last year should know why this song is special, it's re-worked riffs/riffs taken from Justin's Demo-Reel he left with us and that airhorn solidifies the nod the band is making toward him. As long time fan and having met Justin a few times it's easy to gather while he's very passionate about music, (not just metal but rap/hip hop etc. too) he also has a ridiculous sense of humour (the mash ups in the demo reel) and knowing that everything about this song instantly clicked and was beautiful and the emotionally heavy gem I was hoping this album would contain. That's just my 2 cents/interpretation on the matter. Justin would definitely be proud of this album and song - RIP

Help center a person for the max potential connection, or enjoyment of this Frankenstein masterpieces commonly written by metal writers. Makes sense with metal being the genre requiring the most talent to excel in. The progressive metalcores, was very common over a decade ago, before that kind of intense musical progression could be accepted and appreciated. Which made some awesome bands, but almost made a lot of bands quit. Although the pilot light never fully extinguishes in the true metal head, cause some bands are coming back, and with intent, that sweet sweet intent that tends to be perceived as pure content and certainty, even if for just a moment or the duration of the song

The lyrics make me so sad I almost cry but the lyrics are yet so beautiful! White ghosts, the dead that surrounds us, helps us bloom with the "beauty" in death, that we miss our loved ones so much so that power of love makes us bloom and helps us keep on going in this life and helps us not to give up. The loved one is destilled down to a memory, shut off with a tragic suicide, but retired among the infinite ghosts, other loved ones in the afterlife. We try to balance our life, standing on canonballs, if we get too close to the edges and get into unbalance, the canonball is so heavy its hard to make it stand in balance once again, just like it is in life, if you are depressed it can be very hard to turn around and be happy again, the canonball flips over and you fall. We try to balance all alone and try to survive in life but outside of the battlefield, where all our family and friends are to help us if we need help to balance up the canonball, poor Justin isolated himself, noone knew what was happening, he was outside the battlefield. The labyrinth he left around this crater, this hole that was his life because he felt empty and sad probably. The labyrinth that we try to unravel and seek for the truth why the loved one left us, it "amazes" us this mystery, this defeat that took the life of Justin. I'll RAGE for the loved one who is dead but I can't take it out on others Ill keep it for myself, INSTEAD ghosts of my past, my past life, my old selves, my experiences, help me to be strong enough to go on with the life that my loved one left me in so I can move on. Lead me through the blinding night, the life that can be oh so hard to navigate through when it feels so dark in difficult times. So face the back to the storm, ride along with it instead of struggling against it, this storm, this tragedy it can help you to be stronger, don't look for shelter, don't hide like you've done before but MOVE ON! Put both your feet on the ground, be down to earth and see it for what it is, the sirens call won't mislead you again, this is the time when you will move on. There's hope for a better future even after Justin's death, there is HOPE for a better life AND AFTER THE BURIAL WON'T GIVE UP This text is amazingly strong, it's so sad, yet so beautiful, Anthony describes his terrible lost, how Justin left him and his brothers in the band but that he won't give up, they will move on and they know that Justin will be there with them!

Seriously tho, Ive been listening to it non stop since the stream came out, and I haven't gotten the least bit bored with it. That hasn't happened in a LONG time. This is ATB at their best. Truly reminds me of all of their old material, the kind that got me hooked on this band in the first place.

+efeesh You're correct. Well, nearly finished. Justin went back to Minnesota before Anthony arrived at the studio to do vocals, but I think the majority of the guitar writing and tracking had been done before he left the band, and certainly before he took his life.

I wish I could make an official video of this song with After The Burial playing in the middle of a crowd made of fans (real fans not actors) , no guards, no bars, just a band yelling RAGE at the sky surrounded by people who really get their music, their lyrics and their message and want to scream RAGE for their own ghosts. Love this fucking song

"That song had the working title 'Ghosts' in the studio, and when it came to officially name it, I was OK with keeping the title," Notarmaso says. "But Trent [Hafdahl] brought up the Laurentian Divide, and I loved it. The strange thing is that the song has a big part of Justin in it. He always played this pretty riff when we would soundcheck, so we put that in the beginning of the song." Feels are too strong.
