【Plot summary】📖While enjoying an outdoor party, playboy Zhang Peng finds himself needing a quick escape from an approaching ex-girlfriend. He makes a mad dash for the swimming pool, only to have the lady in question accidentally plunge in herself. While attempting to resurface, Peng suffers one well-placed stiletto-heeled kick to the head.
Upon awakening, with memories intact, he finds himself having gone back a thousand years in time. But this is the least of his worries, as he now realizes he has transformed into the current dynasty’s own crown princess, the lovely Zhang Peng Peng.
Hilarity ensues as he tries to find a balance between opposing desires: To get back to his own time or to seduce all the women of the palace, now made seemingly achievable with the help of his new female persona.

I love Sheng Yilun’s interpretation of the script. He played the drunken scene loaded with so many contradicting feelings so well. The feeling was so subtly shown and the act was so overtly carried out. He was furious that his wife colluded with his brother to assassinate him, but he loved her. When she kissed him back, he realized that she wanted him. When he was drunk, her wanting him was enough, but when he was cold sober, he knew it was not what he wanted. He wanted her to love him. Wow!

@@alycapsify Sheng Yilun, the emperor in Go Princess Go, was Yujin in Oh, My General, but the Empress here was not in Oh, My General. The mistress here was one of his concubines in Oh My General and the maid here was his mother. Sheng Yilun was only 22 and they had to make him up to look older.

@@alycapsify The producers made 3 endings for us to pick the one we like and I like the third ending in ep 37 (only in Chinese) when they saw each other in modern times with their memories intact, kissing each other. I thought it was really beautiful. Also, Sheng Yilun, the emperor, sang all the theme songs in that ep. with his totally mesmerizing voice. There are 3 or 4 different uploads on youtube for the drama, but only one has ep. 37. Not sure if there is English subtitles for that ep. though. If you have trouble finding it, let me know.

The emperor knew that his wife was colluding with his brother to kill him and he had proof. If he was any other emperor, the empress would have been executed or banished to the cold palace. This happened very often in history, both in China and Europe. Empresses or queens lost their heads or lives for a lot less reason. In the Qing dynasty, one saw what the Emperor Qianlong did to his second empress for less cause. Here, Qi Sheng knew what he should do, but he did not want to be ruthless towards her. He loved her and did not bear to hurt her even faced with so much evidence. He struggled between anger, disappointment and love and love won out in the end. Instead of strangling her, he chose to kiss her. This was the opposite of what the ninth prince did. The ninth prince gave in to the hatred and envy and colluded with the enemy. If he had loved the empress, that love was not as strong as the hatred. It was no wonder the empress told the ninth prince that she would have fallen for the emperor even if she had been married to the ninth prince in the first place. I love how the producers packaged this story. Sheng Yilun did such a fantastic job, making it so touching, and so romantic.

When my friend recommended that I watched him in a 2017 talk show, she described him as a great actor and singer, with a face like an angel not because of makeup, and a body like a god, a very enchanting smile and a mesmerizing voice, I told her that a man like that did not exist until I watched his interview and realized that I was wrong.
