Just something to consider. People who self harm will likely end up hurting those who care about them through their actions. Did you ever consider that the actions Luna takes, and the resulting help she gets could relate to and express the issues of some people who aren't in the best place mentally and emotionally? If you're gripped by self-loathing and depression you will make mistakes. You will do things that end up hurting other people. This episode shows how unhealthy that is, and gives another way. Luna's actions are depicted as wrong, and her struggles are relatable. She honestly has some of the deepest issues of any character to deal with.
@Arella177 жыл бұрын
As a sufferer of Depression trying to shove that into her motivation makes the episode worse. Especially the "treatement" that is shown. Not years of therapy, a peptalk and hugs are what cures Luna.
@b.ashley92227 жыл бұрын
Arella17 It definitely could be handled better. Just about every major conflict with any psychological aspect to it is resolved poorly in MLP. It just bothers me when people don't try to understand why someone would have taken those actions. Should the writers have gone that route? Not really, since they can't handle it in the short time they have. However, they sis go that route, and it revealed something about the character, and people are for the most part ignoring that. Instead of mentioning that the resolution should have been different (say, it's defeated by her agreeing to start the path of forgiving herself, and seeking help) the entire premise is hated. People also hate HER for not dealing well with her emotions, and say that she's a horrible person for it. That bothers me considering the way people who have deep emotional issues are usually treated in society.
@Arella177 жыл бұрын
It doesn't help that this episode follows several others that didn't even have hints of Luna being depressed. Any mention of Nightmare Moon was more of a statement of "I understand what you're going through" rather than hints that she's suffering. It makes this whole episode come out of left field. When a fanfic author makes a more interesting story about Luna's guilt and depression that introduces it in an organic manner and doesn't cure it with a hug. Then that means this episode's writers had no place trying to write depression or self harm. Again I'm actually a sufferer of depression trivializing this disorder and the treatment of it like this episode did shows that these writers had no business even attempting to make an episode about depression or Self-Harm.
@b.ashley92227 жыл бұрын
Arella17 You're commenting like you're assuming that I'm not someone with experience with that as well. It's never good to make that assumption, considering the sheer number of people who have to deal with mental health issues. I personally found something I could connect to, even if it was poorly handled, so I'm able to take positives away from it. They should have done a better job with it, but I have an issue with people using this as a way to bash Luna instead of questioning the writers. If the arguments focused on what you're saying, then I wouldn't have too much of an issue, but the "Luna is worst princess evar, because blegh" stuff that I've seen after this episode bothers me. The writers were out of their depth handling it this way for sure. Instead of addressing that, though, people just say "that was stupid" or "Luna is so dumb" and don't carry on a discussion. Since it is poorly handled, it would be a great place to start a discussion about the way mental illness is mishandled in media, a discussion about self-fulfilling fears, or even a discussion about the way self-harm (even when restricted to emotional) ends up harming other people too. There's a lot of potential for good conversations, but instead people are busy using it as evidence for why Luna is "the worst" to them, and that bothers me.
@NoirRaven4 жыл бұрын
@@Arella17 Old comment is old but my question is, how are they going to do that if she's not the main character? You can't really hint at depression anyway. Someone who seems perfectly normal is most likely to be suffering the most inside. You have depression, right? Don't you know how to turn it off for people? Most do.
@brigidtheirish7 жыл бұрын
The hype is the fandom's problem. Just looking at the show, she's a fine character who's *trying* to be better. But she's also depressed. The revelations in this episode make a great deal of sense out of her previous appearances. She's been trying to emulate her sister. She's been exhausted from denying herself restful sleep. She's been blaming herself not only for things she actually did, but things she could've done and didn't do. As someone who suffers from clinical depression, I empathize so much. And, sure, she should've talked to her sister, but sometimes it's hard to talk to those who should be closest to us. Luna isn't thinking clearly, she's sabotaging herself without intending to, she needs *therapy*. As for the nature of the tantabus, it makes perfect sense. People with depression are their own worst enemies. Our demons are of our own creation. Our actions affect all around us. Our efforts to punish ourselves hurt those who care about us most. The tantabus being some outside force would diminish the message of self-forgiveness.
@Doomsday-yo7lh7 жыл бұрын
I think the problem is that the Tantabus was Luna’s conscious creation . If it were some kind of being unconsciously formed from Luna’s self-hatred, it would be understandable. But Luna actually created this creature, knowing full well how dangerous it is. Also if her self-hatred really is that strong that she would consciously create a being to torture herself, it’s kind of weird that a speech managed to suddenly resolve all her issues.
@brigidtheirish7 жыл бұрын
Except she didn't realize until after it escaped that it *could* escape. She said as much. And I doubt the speech resolved all her issues. It just made her willing to work them out in a way that didn't involve torturing herself. It made her realize that others are willing to help her, that others *care* enough to help her regardless of the potential dangers. That they think she's *worth* caring about. Just hearing that can be a huge help and the first big step to recovery for many people.
@Doomsday-yo7lh7 жыл бұрын
brigidtheirish Well, I kind of wish that ending was made more clear then. Because it really did seem as though it resolved all her issues. I think it would have been better if the episode had maybe ended with her talking to Celestia about it. You know, someone who can tend to her and provide her with the comfort and advice she needs to begin recovery? After all, confiding in family and friends is a pretty important part of the recovery process. IDK, I’m just spitballing here. I get what the episode was trying to tackle, but I just think it could have been done better.

I loved the fact that the Tantibus was a creation of Luna. It all reflects the famous saying: "We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell."~Oscar Wiljava It teaches the lesson that our suffering can be of our creation and that we need to learn to go easier on ourselves or to forgive ourselves. We can be our own worst enemy at times. That to me is a very powerful message.

Demon Hunter That's so true. I don't like when people criticize that Luna made the monster. But the guilt can make you do those things, and lots of people punish themselves
@maskofice94327 жыл бұрын
That's true, but that's not something we consciously do. You usually don't go out of your way to torment yourself, but it does happen. From what I understand, the complaint is not that she created it, but that she consciously created it. Now looking at the line in the episode, it doesn't directly state that she does create it consciously, but it does imply that, which is where I believe the problem arises.
@whateveraj44967 жыл бұрын
Thats a good point. I believe that she actually didnt create it on purpose, but it was created from her guilt and took the blame for it and made her self believe it was her fault and that she deserved it. As you stated, they aren't very clear on that so it gives people some room to put more ways to put the wording
@CrimsonGuard19927 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. We can do it consciously also. People with autism or Asperger do these kinds of things. They think differently and thus are capable of consciously tormenting themselves. From personal experience, I have consciously punished myself at times.

I'm skeptical that Luna is at fault as much as she says/feels she is for creating the Tantabus. She's a dream god living in a stealth psychological horror setting where sufficient negative emotions *spontaneously generates/invites demons.* That's how she got possessed by the Nightmare Force to begin with. The tantabus is Luna's personal windigo.

I dunno, personally, I think part of what makes Luna an interesting character is how imperfect she is. A lot of people I know, including myself, will beat themselves up over mistakes, and I think the Tantabus was just the god-level version of that, multiplied by the magnitude of the mistake she made. Yeah, she shouldn't be absolved of all wrongdoing, that would be silly, but I don't think that wrongdoing is reason to say she shouldn't be liked. Out of the three non-Twilight princesses, I'd say she's definitely the most interesting and developed. Also, just gotta say, Tantabus had one of the coolest villain designs!
@taddad26418 жыл бұрын
I dunno what the fanboys think, but while luna is one of my fav characters, i never saw her as some innocent woobie. She made a msitake. She lost control of herself and let the darkness in. She is misunderstood, yes, but that does not make her guiltless of her actions. While it is clear that luna had lost control when she became nightmare moon, possessed by a demon manifested from her lonliness, jealousy, and hatred, she is still the one that summoned that demon. Yet that came about after a prolonged period of time of isolation. Perhaps some of it of her own creation, perhaps some of it from the fear her subjects had and how she did not feel recognized. Ultiamtely it seems this went on for Decades. That is why i like luna. she has faced strife and is trying with all her heart to redeem herself. The tantabus is a manifestation of a fear. That she will fall to temptation once more, that nightmarem oon would ultimately return. She hurt herself. And it was meant to be seen as that. She was hurting herself out of guilt, and it was unhealthy. And it was misguided to not try and keep taht nightmare in check. Hell i have a theory that the tantabus escaping was simply to cause luna more grief. It existed to harm her, and thus it escaped in order to cause her more pain. Awesome video and an intersting back and forth there.

I'd like to add some points to the ones already made on Luna's irresponsibility in this episode. Firstly, yes; it was highly illogical and irresponsible of her to do so. But a lot of people seem to be forgetting that this is a real thing that people put themselves through when they feel guilt over something they've done. This episode demonstrated Luna taking responsibility for her sins but doing so in the wrong way. For those that go through this type of internal conflict, that perspective is extremely difficult to attain. I've seen a lot of people fault the episode for Luna's internal and external conflict. However, I believe that showing that conflict with oneself is what makes it great. Additionally, this episode demonstrated the incredibly important WHY that type of mentality is destructive to ourselves and others and it also showed all of the necessary steps to resolving it. Understanding the guilt, desiring redemption, outreach, trust and forgiveness. Luna certainly didn't know these things before this episode and through most of it. But I'd wager that she certainly does now. It's just unfortunate that these types of events are what it took to make her realize that.

+Brawny Buck I agree, but the real problem here is the timing; not just in the episode's release date and the coming of the revelation itself, but also in how quickly it was resolved. Granted this is a show with a lot of budget constraints limiting it to just 22 minutes, but this is a topic that deserved a lot more time devoted to it.
@BronyDebates8 жыл бұрын
That's a good point and all I can say is that it can and sometimes does happen that quickly when the person experiencing that guilt has a good line of support. Changing minds does happen, especially when people realize that what they've been doing is wrong and in this case counterproductive to what they've been trying to accomplish.

A very good analysis, and I agree with you. I have problems with this same internal conflict and it is very disruptive to my life in general and my relationship with my SO. I think the episode tried its best but 22 minutes is not enough to describe main types of love (Luna's being a good example of "Agape" type). I am a living testament how destructive this conflict can be. It is not often when I find a relatable character in a TV series, but she feels like an image of me (not externally, I am a hideous freak).

A year late, but I am honestly confused why people believe Luna knew what the Tantabus was capable of. She created it with the sole purpose of tormenting herself, and so she believed that was all it could do. She never imagined how it would grow or what it could really do. I would compare this to Twilight's spell in "Bats", or Starlight's spell in "Every Little Thing She Does," a spell that worked exactly as intended at first, but also one with unforeseen concerns and issues. The thing about the more powerful spells the unicorns cast is that so far they seem to massively underestimate what a spells full potential is and what the side effects and long-term effects of a spell will be. Well, I will admit it was stupid of her to create the thing and torment herself with it; I don't believe she created it with the ability to do harm to other ponies. She believed it was trapped in her dream, and it was until it grew more powerful than she ever intended or thought it could become.

Personally, I think this video is a pretty good representation of self-harm. It's something you do to hurt yourself for what you perceive as a worthy cause even though it does no good to you and could cause harm to those around you. Personally it's why I appreciate the episode so much.
@RickisRetiered8 жыл бұрын
+VoiceOfReason I'm not crazy about this episode either, but I disagree with a couple of your complaints. I think people feel sorry for Luna because her story is one of a fall from grace. Most people know what she did was selfish and unjustified, and most people know Celestia was in the right to banish her (it's terrifying what a lack of sun can do to the land), but it's because Luna was once a good ruler who eventually turned into a monster because of jealousy causing self destruction. Then when she was turned back to normal, she was filled with immediate regret from how wrong she was rather than simply for being caught. Because of that, sympathy (and empathy for those who might have had a similar experience with jealousy taking over) kicked into gear for a lot of people. While Luna did know the Tantabus can harm people (she made it just to harm herself after all), she most likely didn't know it could escape her dreams in the first place. -"It must have learned of you six from seeing you in my dream." -"I saw that the Tantabus had grown more powerful, but I did not realize that power was enough to enable it to escape my dreams" -"I think it's feeding off your guilt, Princess Luna." -"If that is so, then perhaps that is how it grew strong enough to escape in the first place." Those quotes pretty much confirm that she didn't know of the Tantabus' full capabilities. Even at the start of the episode when it escaped she basically went "wait, what?" Then there was when she said that only she could move from dream to dream. That's the reason she didn't take any of the Mane Six along with her after visiting each dream. Even in Bloom and Gloom, Applebloom never stepped into the doors of either Sweetie Belle or Scootaloo's dreams, but rather watched them from outside. Though there is a contradiction from the fact that all three ended up in the same dream at the end.
@AtarahDerek8 жыл бұрын
Luna can also create shared dreams, so the dream that the CMC shared was on a dreamscape specifically designed for that meeting. Which is why it was the CMC clubhouse. Had Luna been willing to accept help from the Mane Six to begin with, she would have created a shared dream for the seven of them to stop the tantabus.

I highly doubt anyone who watches this show has attempted to kill everyone and shroud the world in eternal night, but we as humans do have moments where we hurt other people, even our friends... some people are able to go to that person and apologize with all their heart, some people are able to get over the guilt they feel.... but some people can't. For some people making a simple mistake, let alone hurting someone/people you care about, can lead to feelings of extreme guilt and self-hatred. These people feel a need to be punished, and these people aren't going to go to someone for help.... why would they? They feel like what they've done is unforgivable, and whether that's true or not, there's no way they're going to talk to someone about it. I can tell you from experience. Had that Tantabus not gotten out of Luna's control, she would have continued on, each night, suffering because she truly believes she deserves it. Some people say, "Oh she should just get over it! Shes an idiot to torture herself each night!", and I gotta ask, would you say that to one of your friends who was going through the same thing?
@EmRose.r8 жыл бұрын
I'd like to share my thoughts on this episode on a personal level. I relate to Luna. I relate to the feeling of abandonment, of trying desperately to understand why people didn't like me, in fact loathed me. I remember breaking and running away, and when I was found all the events afterwards felt like I was isolated for one thousand years. I remember starting anew, new school, new opportunities, new friends, I was in a happy place! But even still, my past looms over me, and I have dreams of the people who tortured me and I felt like I tortured them because it was the only reason I could think of that would make them so cruel towards me. I day dream scenarios and situations with them in it, again ruining my life and everything in it. Even though my friends and family know of my pain, they don't know I am still tortured by the thought that they might come back, and that I don't deserve to feel any happiness because I feel as though it's not worth it anymore. I relate the Tantibus to my thoughts of cutting and suicide. I know that it could be harmful to my friends and family if I take action to those thoughts, but I think of it anyway, because it's either that, or fall into a false sense of security only to have it ripped away from me at any given moment. I know that my friends believe in me, I know my family can help, but I feel if they help too much, they will no longer understand me. Take this, and put it in the episode, and then maybe you'll understand Luna's reasoning and thought process.

The only things about this episode that irked me were Twilight's, Applejack's, and Rarity's dreams, and how quickly Luna forgave herself. I've seen people who have hated themselves so much that they do basically feel the need to torment themselves for what they've done, so her creating the Tantabus was realistic to me. But they NEVER recover that quickly.

I know, 20 minuits isn't a lot, but I think maybe; Celestia came into the dream (because her dream was about the christal empire- pinkie was in the crystal empire at one point, maybe celestia could have been hidden on the castle's balcony?) and come down to her sister (after twilight's talk), and say something like- 'it'll take time, but with help from others, we can help you, my sister.' then the mist creature goes. And even though the creature is gone, at the end of the season (well not now so)- or next season an episode where someone asks- how is luna- and celestia says, she's doing good now. but that's just my though.

The entire point of the tentabus is that it didn't help Luna but only hurt her and those surrounding her. The tentabus didn't came from some rational place, Luna summoned it as a way to practice self harm. It came from her self loathing and inability to forgive herself. She was wrong to create it, but that's what the episode is all about. Coming to understand that self destructive behavior is *not* a good thing that you should subject yourself, that it isn't the way to make amend but a self reinforcing trap. And yes it makes the most sense for Luna who have always been socially isolated to develop these tendencies. She could not confine her feeling with Celestia because she feels guilty _towards_ Celestia and she doesn't really have anyone else. She is not really that close with the mane 6, and her relationship with the CMC is too much in the same vane as that of a teacher to students. She never even attends the Grands Galloping Gala. And you know what? This is why I love Luna as a character, she is defined by her flaws, but she is also defined by a genuine attempt to rise above them. This is actually a running theme in the show and one of the main reasons I love MLP:FiM so much. all the main characters in the show are flawed, from the mane six to the CMC to spike to Luna. The stories in this show are more often than not built around the main characters fighting against their own short coming rather than against some outside antagonist.

I love how much people invest Luna's character in the fandom. The art, the music, the stories, it shows Hasbro what we the fans want from the show, to put into Luna's development as a more diverse character and to make her a better princess. And to this I thank you fellow luna fans and to you too Silver, even though some fans think Luna is overrated, but if they'd only look closer they would see what we Luna fans see, and if you are a Luna hater reading this I just want to ask you just to look a little deeper into not just the Luna in the show, but the Luna we Luna fans see. Not a Luna who wants to be Know as a princess and her duties, but a young soul who felt alone in the world who wanted for someone to know her and not fear her for being princess of the night and her older sister would not understand this. Luna was not jelous of Celestia's Day she was Jeleous of all the love she got from their subject, while she received their fear. So please just at least TRY to see what we see, read a fanfiction about Luna or watch a Luna tribute. Even if that does change your Hater prospective then at least try to see it from both sides. Great Review Guys. : )

PS to those who thought a Thousand years on the Moon was a good idea then think of it this way. A thousand years is a REALLY long time in human standards. 3 years possibly, 20 years maybe, but A Thousands is a very long time to be alone, heck I'm surprised Luna didn't go insane. I know Luna wanted to make it eternal night, but do you think she actually THOUGHT about the problems this would caused, her mind was clouded by anger and sometimes we don't think things through when we're angery, if Luna had defeated Celestia she would have likely noticed her subjects were starving after a couple of nights and then would have eventually decided to raise the sun for them, but instead of Celestia letting her sister learn a lesson on her own, she sent her to live all alone ON A BARREN MOON FOR A THOUSAND YEARS!!!! yeah.....Really good teaching there Celestia. Really. good. teaching.

In defense of Luna for the Celestia portion, I understand why she never went to her. She's understanding, yes, but I think it goes beyond that. I think she's not talking to her BECAUSE she's guilty. She doesn't want to burden her sister because she feels like she's done that enough. I think many people in real life understand that feeling. When I was really sick from my autoimmune disorder, I didn't want help from others beyond my medication, even though I kept getting sick because of it. I felt like I was burdening everyone by making them do things normal people CAN do. Eventually, it got worse and they had to help regardless. I think Luna essentially doesn't want to burden her sister with her guilt anymore. (Sorry, I'm bad at explaining)

If you ask me, best princess is Celestia. Don't ask, you probably won't anyway. I personally love her when she's the wise but I also love when she's like not perfect. I really feel sad whenever the fandom bashes on her for being "Cold and heartless". Honestly, there's like no reason to do that. Sure she's not like Luna but say if roles were reversed, trust me, people may like Celestia more.
@Happymasks8 жыл бұрын
Celestia has proven time and time again that she will foist the responsibility onto others when she believes that they're better at the job.
As someone with tons of anxiety, abandoment issues, an overthinking problem and some other problems, I can sympathize with Luna in this episode. I have my own tantibus that holds me back and it just refuses to go away no matter how many times I tell myself it's all in my head. I'm far from depressed, I just over think things to the point of making things hard for myself for no reason. I don't see her as an innocent character or anything, just someone I can relate to in so many ways that it just shocking. But I did like that Luna was helped out not by her former enemies turned friends but the fillies who she helped guide. I always saw her becoming Nightmare moon as giving into her loneliness and jealousy of Celestia and this was confirmed in an episode where Luna and Celestia switched roles. Seriously, if you ever dealt with the kind of anxiety and fear of messing up and/or saying something that hurts the people you care about most then you'd understand why this episode is so important. I'm constantly afraid of saying something hurts my friends.

19:30 Saying that she knew that it was something that would harm others would imply that she knew that he could escape if she dreamed of anybody else, when the truth is she did not. She was surprised we didn’t manage to gain enough strength by feeding on her negativity, (an element she did NOT know about) It gained the ability to break free from her dream and enter others. To her this was only supposed to be a self-contained self-punishment. But much like in real life the things you do to yourself will often spill out and affect others. In her mind what she did as nightmare moon was so horrible that she felt she should never allow herself to forget. So she would give herself the same nightmare while she was asleep and not attending to her duties. And in case you’re curious, no I am not a Luna fanboy.

Full Disclaimer: Biased Luna Fan but I'm 100% impartial here trust me :D You cannot critique a character for being overrated, as you have to prove they aren't a well designed character first, so ideally one should start with that. My every word keeps morphing into deep suspicion on instinct after seeing what is here, so I'll keep my comment short. You shouldn't stereotype all Luna fans, as I do not think of Luna as a waifu. I like her character archetype due to personal sympathy and like what was done with her, even if its a bit over the top at times. This is an insult to people who like Luna, not a criticism of Luna's character. List of worst "valid" criticisms of character design over "Overrated": Basic, Trope-following, Uncreative, Boring, Lazy. Obviously not the best made video I see. Try to be more objective next time and understand people can like a character that isn't well designed other than "She ma waifu". There, whether she is any good or not is completely irrelevant to my argument. Lower your guns Luna fans; objectivity has been restored. Your overrated reveal at 11:54 made me laugh so I don't even feel like hitting the dislike button. Thanks for the laughs.

Late but I agree with this comment. Hating a character and thinking they're overrated for whatever kinds of reasons is simply not a critique like Voice of Reason suggests. There are plenty of characters in plenty of media that I don't like but that doesn't mean they're written poorly as it is just my personal taste. Not liking the character does not make the character themself bad. I feel like Voice of Reason's very aggressive biases are getting in the way of a proper critique here. Luna's reasons for creating the Tantabus are pretty easy to understand, and furthermore it's likely she didn't expect it to become so powerful. Not being able to see that coming is not irresponsible because Luna simply can't see or predict the future. She most likely expected the Tantabus to stay a personal thing. I'll admit that Luna's reasons for becoming Nightmare Moon are a bit flawed, but the fact that she feels so guilty shows how much she cares and how much regret she has that she feels like she needs to do this to herself.

Voice's logic: Luna is bad character because Luna is flawed. But I would respond to that by saying that flawed characters are good because they're realistic and relatable.
@Speeddemon1058 жыл бұрын
+Wooden Goods I think his logic is more that Luna isn't a bad character, just being placed on too high on a pedestal for being the "tragic" character despite having rather shallow motivations for falling to the dark side. In fact, I really hate to say it, but it might even be more shallow than Anakin Skywalker. Saving the one you love by doing evil things? Understandable and plays into the trope that love makes you evil. Luna refusing to lower her moon just cause she wants attention? Still understandable from her point of view admittedly, but less sympathetic because it's not even for the sake of another. Sure, Anakin was doing it more for his own sense of self than for her as she voices her disappointment and fear of what he has become, but at least he was TRYING to save her life despite how horrible and shallow he was. Luna just wanted attention. Which is a MUCH easier solved issue in the long run.
@Speeddemon1058 жыл бұрын
+GamerMikko So very true. Plus I still think Luna is more likeable than him. I'm just going by motivations and not actions. And I would say that refusing to allow the sun to be used at all would be really bad and cause possible death of others as well, but that would lead to a neverending debate and I don't want people to dislike me for making arguements and comparasions to something that has been flamed by every Star Wars fan under the sun. So I'll end this by saying that I still prefer Luna's character and arc to Anakins and let that be my final opinion.

The problem with Luna is that the writers don't know how to do what they're trying to do with her. Megan Mcarthy knows how to handle conflicted characters. She proved that with how she handled Sunset Shimmer in Rainbow Rocks. M.A. Larson handles conflicted characters fairly well in Pennyroyal Academy. If either of them had done this episode, I bet Luna would have been handled more smartly and the story would have made more sense.

I'm sorry. With Luna creating the nightmare to torment herself, it seems like none of you are remembering the phenomena of teens cutting themselves being a cry for help. Luna has essentially been cutting herself in a realm where her sister is useless in, silently seeking penance like an old school Catholic . . .something. Seeing that Luna did this to herself adds depth not just to her character but the world they live in. Instead of hidden razor blades, it is self-inflicted nightmares.
@EnchantingWings16 жыл бұрын
I think that she created the Tantabus during her time she was trapped in the moon, as a form of self-injury. And as anyone with self-harm problem knows, it takes a long time to overcome the urges when difficult times strike. I think that the episode shows how difficult it is to overcome those kinds of things, and the length of time it takes for someone to overcome said issue. Even though she has shown us that she is a wonderful guide to others, these issues often happen in the background despite the positive steps forward we've made. Overcoming self-harm and self torment does not happen overnight, and Luna is an example of this. And the show does go into those sorts of issues, as it showed Trixie's suicide attempt, Pinkie's hallucinations, Starlight's major anxiety issues, and Twilight's paranoia and where that paranoia led her. The show isn't afraid to show topics on mental health. However much people try to overcome certain coping mechanisms (self-harm, binge eating/restricting, dissociation, etc), they take time. For some, it takes years and we experience relapses. I think what's happened is Luna not sharing her struggles with either the Mane 6 or Celestia, but bottling it up (like Starlight did in All Bottled Up), which could have alleviated some of that struggle and led to Tantabus slowly having less of a hold over Luna, rather than the rushed resolution we got in this episode. I have negative feelings towards the presentation of the issue in the episode, as it took me a while to not be caught up in a self-harm cycle. A single pep talk would never suffice in any situation. I wish they spread this out over several episodes, showing Luna's progress and giving kids and adults understanding of the length of time these things take to overcome. We, as fans, would have loved to have seen steady progression and seeing how her counsel towards the CMC and Starlight has formed. What we got was rushed, and doesn't lend itself to helping anyone understand Luna's wisdom has come from. While making mistakes is a part of it, helping the audience see her on her journey of self-improvement would have added more weight to her counsel, evolved her character throughout the show, and showed her progress on working through her inner demons. Looks like I'll be busy writing this fan-fic!

Funny enough if frieza ever shows up to equestria. Either celestia, luna or discord would mop the floor with him. Discord has low multiversal feats. Luna should scale to celestia which has low multiversal feats and has the power of 4000 foe (1 foe =1 supernova)

You're right in saying not many people have control over their dreams. Its taken me years to be able to recognize when I am dreaming without then waking up. I can wake myself if the dream is unhappy, but I still can't manifest any change in my dreams that I can see. Its a power struggle to try. Ever try fighting your own subconscious? Its really hard!

14:32 you know hearing what you said, I am part of the troll fandom and so far the recent Hulu show is holding back on the Broppy love story. It drives me insane but know the fandom is still hyped and how we show it in fanart and the special Broppy day, I can see your point in the fandom's love for Luna.
I find Luna relatable that's why she's my favorite

12:04 had me both triggered and not. New Lunar Republic all the way... But yeah, Luna truly is. As much as I hate saying that, I: Rose "Firestorm" Flame, along with my Changeling pals Shade and Ra's Depth, can not deny the fact that Luna's overrated. I'm sorry
