I think it was just a matter of the original writers not knowing how best to handle him. Megan at least gave him stuff that writers could work with in the Crystal empire which is why his episodes for Season 4 are really good. They built on the self esteem issues he displayed during that two parter as well as tackling his blind admiration for Rarity with this episode. Of the new writers Josh seems to love writing Spike the most, which makes sense he also wrote for Skylanders the cartoon. But the other new writers seem to know what their doing with him too..

What if Everfree never was that dangerous to begin with? The main reason ponies fear it is it's population of magical animals (which you don't have too much of a chance to run into, there are wolves in real forests too, that doesn't mean you'll encounter it everytime you take a hike) and the way the forest acts, clouds that move on their own and shit. Ponies probably started worrying that it was so different and unknown, but people started realizing it's not so dangerous after the Mane 6 got inn unscathed

I was thinking that perhaps the creatures that lived there were created by the forest's chaotic magic, ans once that magic was blown away by the Tree of Harmony they... There's also a possibility that the forest became inadequate for them and they just moved away. (There are still a lot of places for those monsters to live, like "*the scariest cave in Equestria!!1!*" and the fire swamp.)

Something that I noticed. With a unicorn’s cutiemark, it will match their eyes (Sweetie Belle), their cutie mark (Twilight Sparkle), or both (Rarity). But there is the very rare case where it doesn’t like with Trixie’s. She has a blue cutiemark, purple eyes, but yet her magic aura is pink. And yes, some good characters will have a green aura. But it’s always a light green. Dark green, and red seen with the Alicorn Amulet, are normally evil.

As soon as I saw this episode, I was immediately reminded of the Flim Flam brothers. Their magic is less translucent than other magic just like Cursed Rarity's. The shade of green matched, as well. The magic's purpose also seemed to fit; it allows ponies to make whatever they want, however impossible it may seem, in the blink of an eye. Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000? Those golden statues of them inside their resort at Las Pegasus? I mean, it takes Twilight a long time to slightly unbend a fork! Maybe their father used it or something, so they have more control over their actions. However, their eye colors matched Cursed Rarity's. Either way, I think they used this magic somehow. They are tall, which implies a longer life! (Celestia, Fancy Pants, Starswirl...)

I liked this review, the guest co-host was really did good with providing a great balance perspective than some of the more negative guests plus Keyframe and Silver played off each other like friends which was fun and a nice change of pace from the abusive guests. It's unfortunate the writers don't know how to write a show for seven main characters when there are many shows that successfully tackle multiple main characters on a regular basis (Community, How I Met Your Mother, Game of Thrones). The thing about green being used for "evil" magic is even though the world is mostly green with plant life, the vibrant mountain dew green like magic seen in this episode and several other franchises is a very _unnatural_ color. In fact it can be almost thought of as "sickly" as other than the context of vegetation things being green when they shouldn't can evoke a sense of disgust if not revulsion. If a wound is green, if meat is green, if mucus is green that is not a good sign and we have developed an instinctive distrust of the color. Guy in _Green Eggs and Ham_ had every right and reason to be turned off by the titular dish.

yamiblade It really doesn't matter what gender he is. I get that there's already 6 main characters even without him (I'm a writer myself, and the task seems ridiculously daunting) but if that's the case you can reduce his role without also kicking his butt every other scene. And that's ignoring that you don't need to have every single one of the main cast have a major presence in every episode.

Well, back in season one, Spike was actually a better character to have, but ever since season 3's end and season 4, Spike isn't as much as a major character because of Twilight's ascension into an alicorn. The reason WHY Spike is under-utilized is because he USED to be a major character, especially in Twilight's backstory. But, here's a problem writers have (and trust me, I have had this problem as well) when a character isn't as necessary anymore. Basically, a character has a purpose, and in this case, Spike DID have a purpose, but, when the Princesses began training Twilight to control her anxieties, Spike wasn't as necessary, since Spike was kind of like her stress reliever. Spike is in that "character purgatory", as I call it, where he needs a new purpose, but with his established character, he has no new purpose. Which is one reason why Spike At Your Service is one of my favorite Spike episodes, it shows that he can't do much outside of his established character. (And yes, I do like Spike At Your Service, hate me all you want, but I'm with Tommy Oliver on this).

***** NOT to mention-from a feminist point of view (The creator IS Feminist, it makes me laugh when male bronies say how much they hate Feminism...which is kind of funny since they watch a show that was originally intended for girls that has Feminist elements in it that appeals to them too) it shows that unrelated boys and girls can have a platonic relationship without any romance involved or any crushes on each other (twilight and spike) and how over the top crushes are not just a girl thing (In Simple Ways, Trenderhoof acts just as bad as Rarity to get his crush;s attention~Quote by SilverQuill himself-may he never lose his laptop or electricity XD) Guys can enjoy girly things and be as sensitive while girls can be tough (Too many examples to list) and it shows how a female ruler can effectively rule a kingdom without any help of a male (Princess Celestia and Princess Luna-I do not get why they are not called Queens, unless there is someone of even HIGHER status who rules Equestria or is on vacation and letting the heirs to the throne rule...OR maybe because Discord is the TRUE ruler of Equestria, albeit an AWFUL one) Or maybe the Princesses are called that for by Alicorn standards, they are still young? The reason why I am not a reviewer of episodes is that I cannot afford equipment nor do I know how to use the clips for the video, so I am stuck typing this to random people who;s comment relates on the Subject-

I've gotta say, not counting Power Ponies, which was very much a Mane 6/action episode with Spike serving as a framing device, this is the first Spike episode of the entire series I consider "good". All the other Spike-centric stories were "tolerable" at best and "absolutely abysmal" at worst. The biggest problem is that Spike never learns a lesson on his own and he never fixes the mistakes he causes; somepony always explains the lesson of the episode to him while somepony else fixes all the problems. But in this episode, Spike not only works out the lesson mostly by himself but also ends up being a core part of the solution. The moral also resonated strongly with me: I've been in situations on multiple occasions where I had to call a friend out for being out of line, and I know how difficult it is to do. The Mane 6 were all used well, and the humorous and serious sections balanced well, but I can't help but feel the episode dragged a bit in the middle, seeming to have been stretched perhaps too long and with most of the central portions being filler. Shame the next Spike episode couldn't live up to this one.

Winx started as a pretty good series and I really liked season 1 back on the FoxBox days... might been 4Kids but meh. Later series became a tad degenerate but got back well enough by the end. Had a good deverse cast of both meaningful Male & Female casts neither Just being fodder for the other, and a nice 'Light/Dark/Neutral mechanic of the 3 schools yet showing there to be other powers still like with the Wizard and Paladin that magic wasn't girl only, and can't remember if there were Warrior school females. But yeah, the guys had tech and nature skills to deal with monsters or cases that magic doesn't work well with while the gals had their thing, overall the group worked. Even the thing with the Witches by season 3? not just being bitches but something valid to say some need know & understand darkness as well as light, with the tension between schools/factions with the Fairies mostly just being good sport. Season 3 or 4 is when normal TV about it ended at least for that series and not sure if continued.

Well, it's been a long time avoiding MLP analyses like the plague. I mean, I am an analytical type myself; but I never let that get in the way of watching this show, which was sort of my escape from worrying about the details to just enjoy the feeling of everything. Then I tried writing canon-based fanfiction, and that all went straight out the window. I'm glad I found you guys. You provide insights from a respectable, relevant point of view. You avoid the pretentious and minimize the meta aspects of creating a critical presentation. The non-MLP demonstrative examples are spot-on and connect with me. I don't feel so ashamed of nitpicking when I try for your lens of experience-tempered positivity. We all want the show to succeed (or we'd no longer be together to talk about it!), but it isn't about polishing the turd either. It's recognizing things for what they are. It's been so long since I didn't feel dirty or cringey from watching a critical presentation. You guys did it. Thanks so much.
