@deathsheir20354 жыл бұрын
@@electricheartpony They don't have to be a citizen to be a wanted criminal in a nation. But in this instance, they are citizens of Equestria. However there is a bigger problem: First, for the home to legally transfer hands, the previous owner must either sell the land, OR be legally declared dead. Then, one must make sure that the land hasn't been given to anyone in a will. If the land has been given to the town itself by means of a will, then government ownership counts as the land being owned. If the town does not receive the land by means of a will, then government ownership of the land, doesn't count as the land being owned. After the conditions have been met, for the land being unowned, THEN, and only then, can someone live on the land, to later claim ownership, SO LONG AS, they are not caught trespassing, and they are not wanted criminals... At which point, if they live on the land for 8 years (that seems to be the average), then they can claim legal ownership of the land. This of course varies from country to country, and some countries don't even allow such land claims to exist. that entire paragraph, is also, bare-bones, scratching the surface, and extremely simplified. It is far more complicated, than people might think. The fact that the previous owner is only declared missing, there is 100% no way, anyone can claim that land as theirs, simply because they've been living on the land for x amount of time. The homeowner is only missing, and has not been declared dead, so the "unowned land" requirement hasn't even been met yet.

@Lunacorva10 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I don't think Twilight's magic needs nerfing. For two reasons: 1) It's been shown in both the fight between Celestia and Chrysalis, and the battle against the Tatzulwurm (Though I still find both of those hard to stomach) that Alicorns are not NEARLY as powerful as fans originally thought them to be. Becoming an Alicorn grants one extra wisdom. It doesn't actually raise their Power Level. 2) Most enemies that Twilight faces are either: A) con-men and tricksters who do not recquire violent methods to defeat. B) Dime-a-dozen mooks whom ANY of the Mane Six could take out, which renders Twilight's power a moot point. C) DemiGod's like Discord who's power eclipses even an Alicorns.

Even better, have her go with Spike, who was explicitly mentioned as going to a con of sorts. It would 1. Keep Twilight from being stupid and overshadowing AJ, and 2. Make for a fun little mini comic with Twi and Spike.
@Sothalic10 жыл бұрын
Sadly that's the kind of plot device that quickly overstays it's welcome, "We need to tone down the power level on the good side so the villain doesn't have to be equally super powerful, let's make Twilight go away" gets old quickly, it's one way to deal with the issue of her having no restrictions anymore past the Idiot Ball which is another way to "nerf" her, but over time it'll become painfully obvious that they're just reusing the same methods to keep the overpowered character away. People are going to complain that their "Favorite" (Gag) character isn't there to rain down unlimited magic and status on her enemies, and it'll turn into a "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation, which... pretty much is what happens again and again ever since the end of S3.

Bam, no complaints about Twi not using her powers/princesshood. Have AJ send Rainbow to go get Twilight for Princess help. Bam, no complaints about RD's ineptitude. Have Pinkie come up with the plans. Bam, more forgiveness in regards to the silliness/ineptitude of the ponies' plans. And I'd have just added a quip about... Applejack: "What about Uncle Chili Pepper? He should still come back and take back his ranch." Twilight: "Well, he's clearly not here, but the ranch should be okay for a while now. I'll ask Princess Celestia to expand the search for him. Don't worry, Applejack. We'll find him!" I dunno. I was generally entertained, but this two-parter clearly wasn't Katie Cook's best work. What irks me about this the most is how easily they could have fixed things. Option 1: Leave Twilight out of the story. She was far from necessary in this story arc, so she could have just not been there. However, they may not have been given the freedom to make that call, so... Option 2: Have the bulls intimidate the town, but skirt the edge of legality while doing so. What's most infuriating is that Twilight did nothing while they committed acts of assault and vandalism right in front of her. Instead, the bulls could have simply been intimidating and implied that they would do such things without doing them. The lead bull could have not been right next to the barn when it burned making him suspicious, but not to the degree he could just be arrested for it. This would have made the whole "I can't just use my magic against a citizen" thing more justifiable. The ending better to boot because it wouldn't have the unfortunate implication that doing damage to ponies homes and the ponies themselves is perfectly acceptable behavior but damaging a "historical site" will get you thrown in prison.

For the most part, the comics are pretty damn good. This was just one bad apple in a long line of great stories. And a few meh, and one, nearly as bad, except it's so much of a mess and makes so little sense it's hard to really hate it other then for how it wasted such an awesome idea as a mirror universe to tell a z-rate love story that turns everypony into an idiot and has the biggest Deus ex Machina ending in the series. But other then this and the Reflections arc, the comics are great. Especially the Micro's and the Friends Forever ones.

I totally agree with almost everything you said, but in the writer's defense, the basic outline of Longhorn's plot is sound. In most English-speaking countries, long-term squatters can file for ownership of land they live on if it's uncontested by the owner. This is called "adverse possession". It's usually used when, say, there's been a surveying error and your fence is a foot onto your neighbor's land. Rather than move the fence, you can file for adverse possession to move the property line on the basis that you've been maintaining that strip of land, you put a fence on it, and your neighbor never complained. The same applies, however, for an entire plot of land -- this makes it incumbent on a non-resident landowner to check by every so often, and if someone is squatting, report them to the local officials. (That's all that's necessary to establish that the land isn't effectively abandoned.) Note that in the absence of a complaint, the police (or county sherriffs, or whomever) have no right to eject someone from private property. That said, it takes months or years to secure an adverse possession claim, and Longhorn's use of violence and intimidation to scare Chili Pepper off the land was totally illegal and should have landed him in jail in about five seconds -- not even mentioning his assaults against the sherriff himself and citizens of the town, and his outright robbery under threat of violence. You're absolutely on target about that.
@khuzang10 жыл бұрын
MLP-Silver-Quill The funny thing about this arc is that this will totally work pre-Twilicorn age. Knowing how much of a scrub Twilight was in the previous seasons, this arc would be hilarious. The comic has the potential to be a Bugs Bunny-esque comedy skit if done right. From a creative standpoint, I feel the writers were torn between doing a comedy set (slapstick optional) or writing something intensely edgy. In some wild scramble (alcohol might be involved), I guess they decided to mishmash the two together. They weren't really sure what to do with the arc, I think. One glaring evidence of this is Longhorn. There were *two* Longhorns in the comic: one, is the hardcore brute that rampaged the town, harassing its townsfolk and taking anything that's not bolted down the floor; the other one is the sly conniving Longhorn who tried to take the town in some ridiculously stupid loophole and pretending he did nothing wrong. It should have worked because this is relatively close to a textbook "Palpatine" scheme. If they still want Longhorn to be involved in the raids, the least they could do is give him a disguise as a raider while the _true_ Longhorn worms his way through the system and tries to grab the town for himself or be the sheriff -- like you mentioned in the video. By and large, it's a lack of focus on the part of the writers in this arc -- which I find weird because they did so well in the "Two Worlds" arc prior to this. Hopefully, they spring back to form on the next issues. If there's any redeeming factor for this, it's the quality drawings in these two issues. Andy and Heather consistently did a marvelous job on the comic art. I would the buy the comics just for the art, honestly -- if it wasn't selling out like pancakes over here... Dammit.

So, she stopped the bulls because they destroyed a building, something she had described as "just stuff" earlier. Okay. I haven't read the comic myself, but from what I gathered, she was saying it was stuff so they shouldn't worry about it, so long as ponies were still okay, which they weren't because Longhorn was fine with attacking ponies, but then the stuff that she herself said didn't matter is the downfall of the villains? Also on a sidenote Twilight is the pony that said items can hold a sentimental meaning back in "Trade Ya!". Oh Twilight, you didn't shine(Sparkle.) in this story.

Hey SilverQuill I got to ask Katie Cook which were what she thought was her best works and worst works she has made for IDW. She wandered that the issue she believes is best was the Return of Chrysalis. Mostly due to the idea that it was the first book. The writers weren't sure if it was going to strive afterwards and gave it their all. There weren't any boundaries and they did what they wanted with it. She admits that this issue was her least successful but not because of the story in general. More like she had 9 producers tell her to change the story over and over again. She was so tired of the story to the point that she just wanted to get it over with and the result of it was this story. She isn't proud of it and wished she could've went with the first story to focus on finding applejacks uncle. And that the she wished she didn't rush it because of the multiple rewrites. She hopes to continue to write stories she intends to write and I think IDW has learned from that as well.

I'm not so sure that Alicorn magic is the Game-Breaker some fans think it is. After all, Celestia and Luna couldn't use theirs on Discord; they needed the elements of harmony. And Twilight and Cadance needed a lot of effort to beat the Tatzlworm in Three's a Crowd. I mean, considering Twilight was powerful enough as a normal Unicorn, what real indicator do we have that her magic would easily resolve such situations? Especially since even the power of four alicorns couldn't beat Tirek and the Rainbow Power alone couldn't beat the Dazzlings.

The problem with this comic ties into one of my biggest gaming philosophies; don't nerf when you can buff. This comic is very obviously meant to highlight AJ, but to do so they nerf Twilight and everypony else. The obvious solution is if they did not need the rest of the main 6, then don't bring them. The rest of the other main 6 were not in the Fluttercord issue after all. So instead of hitting them with the stupid cane they should have just left them out. AJ on her own sets up allot more tension as she lacks her Equestria saving A-team, and would have to deal with things outside her field (the legal stuff). Though said legal stuff would have to be simplified into less bull.
@7Seraphem710 жыл бұрын
Except it doesn't even highlight AJ, cause it isn't "AJ stepping up and beating the villains after Twi is nerfed out of the fight." it's "Twilight for no reason refuses to help defend ponies from being assaulted, robbed, and terrorized, until she suddenly is fine with stopping them." If they didn't want Twi to fight, then they should have just left her out of the story.

Perhaps make SPG's need others to target a tank for them to taget them from on the map and not have the overhead camera but rather use the map with no 'god cam'. So far all WG have done is kill mame or remove any good tanks that proplayers love or that grow too popular to keep people from being happy, as they force new lines and more power-creep on the game, placing the masses of asses above those who matter. (I use this as a joke because my character is an outdoorsman he sleeps outdoors under the stars in a hammock the hammock is held up by 2 swords) and a minor rule is one cannot use finality magic against a foe unless the foe intends to do harm to multiple lives and these multiple lives are not fellow guardians) another rule is don not be reliant on magic (magic is a finite ability meaning if they use too much magic at one time they have to rest and recover for awhile in order to use magic again) so its to be rarely used in survival situations like Ok to use magic occasionally to star camp fires. but not to magically catch fish without much effort. its ok to use wards to fend off predators temporarily but only on occasion. now this codex is a rules for those who are students under the power of the deities of time, life, storm, light, and dragon. (dark, curse, death are also students but I haven't developed an ethics book because these elements are the stereotype that break rules (and yes I do hate media stereotypes but some of these stereotypes are needed to keep a story interesting such as the light vs dark motif

Honestly, I think a better reason for Twilight to not use her magic would be that if she used it catched them immediately, the town might end up relying on her too much to the point where something similar happens again and the town doesn't know how to react.

Wow... watched this before actually reading the comic. But now it doesn't seem like it's worth reading anymore. Will check it out anyway. Great points though. I was shocked how bad Twi was chatacterized in the comic by your description. This shouldn't happen -.- THanks for your effort. ROck on!

I think Long Horn is pulling an Alamede Slim, where he robs a farm or town then buys the property for money.

As Sketchy said; Twilight, Rainbow and Pinkie shouldn't have been in the story. They only dragged it down.

Longhorn's plan to take ownership of the barn legally is based off of a real-life property law called "Adverse Possession," which allows squatters to claim the land that they're squatting on. On the other hand, the fine print of Adverse Possession creates some flaws with his plan. If the Equestrian equivalent of Adverse Possession is like how it is in real life, then Longhorn would have squat there for several years (usually five years, but may differ depending on local laws), occupy the land for the entirety of the time specified by local law, be sufficiently open with his squatting that there's a reasonable expectation that the owner would discover his squatting and come to a decision about whether or not to evict him before the time limit is up, and use it to the exclusion of any use that the owner intended for the property. If, at any time before the time limit is reached, the owner uses the property himself or objects to Longhorn's use of the land, then the time limit would reset and Longhorn would have to wait the full five years from the point instead of from when he first began squatting. TL;DR: Longhorn is TECHNICALLY allowed to take ownership of the barn, but the context seems to imply he hasn't met the full requirements to be allowed to invoke that rule when the comic takes place.

And speaking of violating the prime derivative I can count the numerous times the Pound Puppies did that. They actually sometimes call humans to confirm adoptions, sneak in homes though in a good way and sometimes even speak to humans directly like in episode 40. Granted they’re in disguise but still. And do I even need to bring up Lucky revealing the secret to Dot in episode 26 which yes while he did eventually get in trouble for it still turned out to be a smart decision.

In all fairness, if a farm of any kind springs up a community follows. Since life tends to be dictated on what necessities you have in the area and the fact that families like the Apples, Cherries and other farming ponies provide a very basic, important necessity. It stands to reason they'd be the central hubs of their respective communities. Have food? Will Town. So to speak.

See, this is why I prefer the Godzilla comics from IDW. Yeah, they were relatively rocky, but at least the people writing them knew how to write Godzilla and his fellow Kaiju as well as had the liberty of creating their own stories for Goji and his co-stars to thrive in.

Your review... makes me think they missed an issue or episode before this issue, one where Twilight got sued or something for the very thing she seems afraid of in this one, as then it'd be a good explanation.
