I used to live in the bungalow opposite, have seen many floods over the years. Buyers/renters were not given the full information about what can happen. They are not nicknamed the ‘bog cottages’ for nothing. So sorry for the residents. 2000 flood was bad and all these cottages flooded badly then and were evacuated.

Here in Australia after a series of floods over the last decade it quickly became apparent assistance from the government is - limited. It was up to the people themselves to help their neighbours, the " Mud Army" Spend weeks, months, cleaning up then battle with your insurance company , receive your insurance policy renewal , a friend of mine was asked to pay an increase of %800 !

Glad Jasmine is of good health, me being disabled couldn't cope at all, my house many years ago was flooded by someone putting my hose pipe through my letterbox when i was alot younger and fit and healthy, got back to house to be greeted with about 3 inches of water, so now i always remember to switch off hose pipe tap under the sink,i know what it feels like and what flood victims are going through😧

with Collingham being 24m above sea level, surely the government could do way more to make sure future flooding is avoided.

I just wonder how long the insurance companies are going to put up with the constant flooding in areas where extreme conditions like this become the norm. The Environment Agency and the government haven't bothered with the rivers for decades. You have trees growing in the rivers and masses of silt build up, which I've seen myself, and this causes the river to become slow flowing which then causes the water to back up. The farmers have been warning EA and the state about these issues, but nothing ever gets done. Even if the EA and the government spend multi-millions on flood defence schemes, there's no guarantee that it will work effectively in the long term. How many flood defence schemes have failed in the decades past, a few...

There are people that have been flooded and cannot get insurance or it's got to expensive because the insurance companies think you are a high risk area in the future I think some places people will not be able to live there anymore also alot of houses should not have been built on flood plains because the water has no where to go

@alybridgwater3282 I often wonder why the EA and concessive governments haven't taken action over the rivers. It seems like logic has been suspended, and many backwards steps have been carried out! The EA works with universities with impact studies, etc... Once the academics say something, it's like the word of God. Nothing changes the facts as said by the academics. The real people who work and live on the land get ignored. That being the farmers and those affected by flooding. That's the way it's always been, for the most part. And probably will continue.

There is no chance the government will be there to help, only time they are there is when they inforce restrictions like lockdown, they don't have a problem with that 🤨

Sadly the waterway’s are not being dredged and they silted up to affect the depth and flow of water and cut backs over time to maintain the ditches and dykes and rivers that are now not being maintained and therefore increasing buildings on land and drainage into rivers are responsible for the flooding failure of farmland and maintenance of ditches and dykes which was maintained by the labour forces of farmers and people living on the land in lied cottages and working the land to be replaced by modern machinery that does not maintain and hedges and ditches and drainage from roads and excessive new buildings of houses to continue to create new flood water issues
