The most interesting thing about the pod isn't the trial or Sam but watching Michael Lewis back himself into the corner after running out of explanations and begrudgingly agreeing with the public consensus

He’s going to prison for a very, very long time.

Damn 10-25 years doesn’t seem long enough for how much damage he’s done to so many. People get more than that from just getting caught with drugs even when they have no evidence of any direct harm caused to anyone by the person… crazy…. And I think drug possession sentences as they are now is immoral and way too long… but for this case it just seems so serious

If FTX ends up returning everyone their money …. Can they convict Sam for stealing zero money?

No, just like if you shot someone and they recovered fully. You still committed a crime

bc in your example you still injured someone a lot. in fact, in your example the full recovery refers to the physical while the harm of getting shot is the pain and suffering that is mental. but what if it turns out that all of the investments he made make money and what if it turns out he makes billions? According to one report i recently saw the bankruptcy estate is short $1.5 billion except alemeda had a 20% interest in an AI company now valued at $30 billion dollars ($6 billion) - along with 000s of other investments all over the globe... not so simple.

@@michaels.6301 the mental torture and loss of peace of mind is the same. Just because you “recover” physically doesn’t mean judicial matters go out the window. I don’t get your argument

If Sam steals my car, then the police recover it, then Sam still committed theft, even if he fixed the broken radio and got new tires while he had it.

The Attorney in this Podcast answered this question exactly and she used the example of someone taking monies out of a Company's Petty Cash to pay their rent and they plan to return the monies. It will still be considered STEALING because they took the petty cash money without approval/permission. So with SBF, even if ALL of the monies were recovered later, SBF still committed a Crime. He should NOT have taken the money in the first place. This is WHY he is being convicted.

Is there any reason that Lidia Jean Kott puts on the 'voice affectation' during the podcast discussion, to make herself sound like a Little Girl/Tween???
