a real missed opportunity. Gary Usher was a mindblowing producer, his work on Sagittarius, Byrds, Chad and Jeremy, right up to Celestium was incredible. If anyone could have made a Brian record with 80s synth and production that actually sounded great, it was him.

@@Ebinspurdo No doubt Carl had a great set of pipes. I loved his guitarwork and emulated him as a youth trying to reproduce that great sound he had with the Fender Jaguar and amp. I learned all his stuff back then. Never did own a Jaguar though.

Love Brian; love this. Brian was great no matter the year. Gary was one of my very favorite cats - he got the sounds (Byrds fan here). "Christine" and "Walkin' the Line" just rock. Brian belts them out like he means it! And you know he did. He believed these were releasable tracks. They were/are.

Usher and Brian were making a great album until Landy interfered and started to rewrite lyrics etc. You can see in the picture that Gary is already fed-up. Probably thinking: JUST LEAVE US ALONE !!

So very true..Brian would come over the house, and dad and Brian would be in the studio..and then Landy would come in and absolutely RUIN everything..when it was dad and Brian...Brian was relaxed, not as nervous..but when Landy would come in on the sessions..Brian's demeanor would totally change...dad had ZERO time for Landy..to be honest..the guy was an asshole... Dad and Brian were true friends..till the end..we miss you Brian...

I still find it amazing that despite brian's mental health he has outlived his brothers, Dr Landy, Usher and many others. In the book I recall they did a version of I still dream of it? I haven't been able to find it

Even now, Brian is going through the ravages of dementia yet he's lived to be far older than his brothers or parents were. A genius AND a true survivor. It's not entirely unprecedented though, as his grandfather William Coral "Buddy" Wilson lived to 91 despite his well documented struggles as a violent alcoholic

Spirit of Rock and Roll has never properly been done IMHO, even Brians release of it on the Hallmark album does not finish it. It has so much kick ass potential and just is missing something to my ears.

I've seen people say that Brian couldn't get a satisfying result with each version he did and he gave up on it. You can easily find like three different versions of it here on YT.

Completely agree but Brian needs that freedom. Who has always picked the exact perfect writing partner ? BW Ofcourse he follows his spirit. Needs to get out from under Melandy(!) or maybe just chill but he’s always such an active guy and Ben in eras the public think he was doing nothing he was always marching to his own drum. I think this is Murray’s legacy, don’t just sit around participate be productive
