I've always said to myself that 1982 was Brian's darkest year and these recordings really show that. It's truly awful what he went through, but we are all thankful that he is still around...

The first forty five seconds of this compilation are... possibly one of the most intensely affecting things I've ever heard. It's like I'm being forced to disassociate from reality hearing it, and like I'm going to just hear the words cycle around and around as if the song is telling me I will die alone and forgotten under a bridge in a city somewhere. And I can't stop listening to it. It conjures such strong emotions in me, and I don't entirely know why? It's fascinating! This whole album is fascinating! And the fact that these few seconds of rising existential dread are followed by a jaunty piano tune that cheers me up to no end makes it even better.

I first heard the "cocaine sessions" about 20 years ago. It is hard to describe the beauty. (Imagine hearing it 40 years ago!) I think you just have to mentally ill and identify with Brian in that way.

When I was getting divorced and was still only separated and wound up being abandoned in an Atlanta apartment by my absent roommate, who left all the bills to me and the rent and the groceries I couldn't afford alone, all because he was gone and so was my ex-husband and I had a private nervous breakdown and had to take about two months off work, I was desperate to express myself. So, a new friend I'd met online coincidentally lived less than a mile from me and all he had was a bunch of 16x20 art paper, black paint, yellow paint, and large paintbrushes, like the kind you can imagine Van Gogh using. I attacked the canvas first with swirls and words and then with actual compositions over the course of a few weeks. This is what this album sounds like to me. Turmoil, hope, prayer, exhaustion, screaming to be understood, individuality, love, soul, human-ness. Who cares if it's really Brian? The impersonation itself is a testament to his immortality.

It's a shame Brian Wilson didn't get involved with the L.A Paisley Underground circa 1980's. Frontier Records could've paid for a proper indie studio session, and subsequent release. New Wavers finding their footing in the 80's indie pop scene would've toured with & loved Brian. It wasn't meant to be,which makes it more tragic.

Had he been alright he could be up there with - and had had a solo career just like - Frank Sinatra, given the strength and beauty of his voice. Just listen to (not included here) Deep Purple, It's over now etc, you know what I mean. It's amazing he was capable of writing all these beautiful songs that hits your heart and punches you right in the stomach, even more than in the 60's. They're quite simple but at the same time complex, and it's a pity there are so many unreleased songs. Do we know who else is playing/singing on these songs? It's amazing, almost everyone thought Brian was lost forever, and then suddenly came his first solo album, followed by loads of amazing stuff, and most of all, something no-one thought would see the light of day: Smile!!! The stuff here, the Trinidad tapes, contains some of his best songs ever!! Thank you sooo much Brian for all this lovely music!!! ♥️👍🙏

Don't Let Her Know She's An Angel is one of the most beautiful BW I've heard and it never even made an official release. Shame that he went through what he went through. I can imagine if he'd been fortunate enough to go down a more positive path he'd have had a really great Randy Newman/Neil Sedaka/Elton John kinda 70s and 80s solo career. But through internal and external stimuli other plans were made for him. Thankful for these tapes and other Brian bootlegs and even happier he made it out of personal hell in the last 25 - 30 years. Absolute legend x

He was diagnosed as schizoaffective and when he was about 2021 he had planned attack panic attacks in the early 60s and there after decided he would wasn't going to tour anymore and he was scared. There is a great movie out right now about Brian Wilson I believe it is called long promised Road. It has very intriguing commentary from Bruce Springsteen saying when he first heard surfer girl he listened to it about 1000 times over and over and over and over and then also Elton John comments. I'm looking forward to listening to this especially to the song don't let her know she's an angel which I had never heard yet and will soon one more thing to feast on and live for in the future. Brian Wilson. Inordinate genius!

I'm hearing overtones of Pet Sounds and Smile, for sure. Amazing what you could get from the old cassettes, I think its safe to say Brian Wilson is a good musician. I remember this period so well. You had the really bad MIU album in '78, the attempt at some quality with LA in '79 (pretty much with the Dennis Wilson tunes and Good Timin', a Brian Wilson tune in the can since '74), then the wretched '80 album Keeping the Summer Alive, then nothing until 1985. It as obvious Brian had little to do with any of these albums. He was the benefactor for the group, the goose that laid the golden egg, and all of the leech members (Love, Jardine, Johnston) with barely any talent, expected that goose to keep laying eggs to keep them earning. The man wanted out. He wanted out since the fights over and subsequent shelving of Smile in mid '67. Brian finally got out a long overdue solo album in '88, but again, his "washed up has been" perception never really was removed. By '98, he resumed his solo career, putting out the great Smile finally in 2004, plus That Lucky Old Sun in 2008. In 2012, The Beach Boys reassembled for a 50th reunion and put out That's Why God Made the Radio, which also shows the modern Brian Wilson at his best. I remember hearing Don’t Let Her Know She’s An Angel in 1999 and thinking that's so Brian straight from the second side of the Today album. I love it.

It’s a fan mix, but part of the enjoyment comes from transporting yourself to a world where it is real. “Everyday Chemistry” by the Beatles is a decent example of how a good story behind a fan mix can creat a whole new experience. I say in the top of the description “In Another Life…” to allude to the fact this record isn’t from our timeline, but wouldn’t it be nice to believe in a world where Brian didn’t have to suffer under Eugene Landy. I hope this clears things up for you, and I hope you enjoyed the cassette..
