When I was a very small girl, we had a guest in our music class who was good friends with our teacher. That guest was Jim Croce. He was the kindest, nicest, most patient and sweetest man. He had brought his guitar with him and played for us kids and talked about music. It was amazing. The school I was attending was Edgar Allan Poe Elementary School in Philadelphia, PA. Jim had zero airs about him. He was just as warm and homey as his music. Oh! He was funny too!

I'm 52 and my wife's 45. And I have a vastly wider knowledge of music. I told her I wanted to play a song for her. We danced in the kitchen as it played. She cried when I sang this song to her. She still does. This song is eternal. Jim Croce is one of the people that should've lived a long life and died an old man. Live your life the best you can. Love people the best you can. Try and leave good memories for when you're gone.

Time in a Bottle was “Our song” between my first wife and I; her first gift to me was a 45 single of this song. Unfortunately, after almost 8 years of marriage, cancer took her into eternity, in 1995. When I hear it, even after all these years, I still think of her, knowing that we did not waste a moment of the time we had together. It was bittersweet going through this episode today, but it was good. Thank you!

This is a very pleasant surprise. I believe this is the first time you've devoted an episode to Jim Croce's music. Growing up in the 1970's, Jim Croce's was one of my many, many, favorite music artists. I've always felt that Jim Croce was to the 1970's what Buddy Holly was to the 1950's. Both had very similar parallels of triumph and tragedy. They both recorded catalogs of great music in such a short period of time and then were killed in a plane crash. I have Jim Croce's greatest hit album. I have so many favorites including "Time In A Bottle (today's featured song)", "Bad Bad Leroy Brown, "Operator", "I Got A Name", "I'll Have To say I Love You In A Song", "Working At The Car Wash Blues", and "Don't Mess Around With Jim.". While Jim was taken from us way too soon, he left a legacy of great songs. I consider him one of the greatest singer-songwriter storytellers of the rock era. Hope you cover more of his music in the future.

My fiancé and I chose the song, Time In A Bottle, as “our” song in 1973 when it was released. Just a few months later in 1974 I sang that song to my young bride as we stood before our family and friends in our home church and exchanged wedding vows. Now, almost 49 years later that song is still “our” song and even more bittersweet as the days before is are much less than those behind us.

Jim Croce is kind of like a modern day Vincent van Gogh in that his immense talent wasn't really appreciated until after he was taken from us all too soon. To listen to his music, how he paints each picture with his timeless lyrics is a lot like staring at a van Gogh painting where you can see each individual brush stroke. You can feel that each word was written from his heart and all of his songs, but especially Time In A Bottle stir up emotions within me that perhaps no other artist has been able to do. Thanks for another great episode today, Professor.

My Jim Croce story. My older brother was traveling to Fort Lewis Washington, I was his co pilot. The year was 1974. The radio on my brothers old car did not work. But we had a Jim Croce 8 track in the player. The dang tape got stuck so we listened to Croce for over 24 hours of driving. While I was tired of Croce by the time we got to Fort Lewis, I learned every word of his songs on that Album. Croce was greatness.

The year was 1984 when I found a tape in the budget bin in my local Waxie Maxie’s. I recognized the name and the full album on tape was $2.99 so I took the chance and bought it. It was Jim Croce’s greatest hits and when I got home and put it on…. His songs, his SOUND! I fell in love with the music and listened to it for a solid month! Then I went hunting for all his albums on VINYL (God, I miss vinyl)! His deep track were phenomenal and I would play my GH tape in my car (later in life when I got my license) to try and turn all my friends onto this guy’s voice! All my friends would call me a pseudo Hippy and ignore my music tastes… typical. None of my friends have ever understood my musical tastes. That’s fine, I’m cool with that. They’re MY choices. When I found out that Jim Croce passed away when I was a LITTLE little kid, I had a brief cry cuz that was ALL the music he made? There was nothing else to feen my addiction for his songs?! But I did find other voices to try and fill the gap. Jackson Browne, CSN (never liked Neil Young’s voice). I’ve always had a thing for a voice and just a guitar… Thanks Adam. I’m a fan who SINCERELY hopes Jim Croce’s voice won’t disappear and be forgotten.

We was right there, We went in and we won The Jim Croce album and were guest DJs on the radio.. My brother gave me the album, I was so excited, my 1st album and advice on the radio.. I remember sitting down and asking my parents to sit with me when I was 7 years old. I took the vinyl LP Jim Croce - You Don't Mess Around With Jim & put it on our turn table (I already had my own by this time) This was my Mom's LP. I proceeded to play "Operator(That's Not The Way It Feels)" & "Time In A Bottle" and had recently memorized every word note for note to both songs & they did not know this yet. I played both songs and sang along with both songs without missing a word & noticed how impressed they were. It is one of those memories that always stays with me. My Mom unfortunately passed away at a young age over 10 years ago so when I hear any song by Jim Croce I can't help but think of her, that time period, & that particular home I spent most of my youth growing up in. Croce Plays Croce is playing at a venue in my city in a few months & I am thinking about going to see the show. Thanks for spotlighting Jim Croce!

When I took up playing guitar I was attracted to acts like Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Croce. There's something special between that partnership with lead and rhythm acoustic guitar playing. The sweetness of the finger picking and the melodic lead fills are aesthetically pleasing. Love Jim Croce and his music.

I was five years old in 1972 when I begged for my mother to buy "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" for me. It was my first album and I still have it to this day. I have now purchased CD copies of all my Jim Croce vinyl albums. A year and a half after getting my first album I was saddened to hear of the plane crash that took him from us way too soon. His music made me feel something at that young age and still does.

The song that always gets me is "I Can't Make You Love Me." I can relate exactly to this and I can't even sing it without choking up. But Croce's songs were so beautiful. I love "Operator." So sad. And these days, a singer-songwriter like this could NEVER get a record contract. We never would have heard his music.

I was a senior in high school when Jim Croce was killed. A friend of mine, who was also a fan of Croce, called me to tell me that he had died in a plane crash. We cried together over the phone, and talked about his music. Even now, when I hear one of his songs, the memory of that phone call returns. The only difference is that now I fully realize how young he was. Thank you for bringing Jim Croce’s story to your channel. ❤

Jim Croce is my favorite singer/songwriter of all time! Jim and Maury died 51 years ago today, on 9/20/1973. I heard that originally, they were supposed to stay the night in Louisiana, but at some point the plan changed. That was why their pilot (who probably shouldn't have been flying with his bad heart) had to walk/run three miles from the hotel back to the airport in time for them to leave after the concert. That was in 1973, back before Uber and Lyft were so common. I'll never know why that pilot attempted a downwind takeoff that night. That was one reason why they didn't gain enough altitude to clear the big pecan tree that stood at the end of that runway, resulting in the crash that killed everyone on board the Beechcraft airplane. What a shame. To me, that was the day the music died. RIP Jim and Maury! You will forever be missed.❤❤❤

I was a teenager when this song came out. The father of a dear friend of mine had passed away suddenly and she was struggling with the loss. After his funeral, my friend told me she had to leave the gathering - she had to get away. So we sat in her dad’s car and and listened to the radio. When Time in a Bottle started playing she started crying so hard and we just hugged each other. She had tried to be strong for her mother and listening to that song gave her the release she needed. It was a poignant memory that I always think of when I hear this song.

She must have been all of 20 but the songs she taught us resonated with our class so much that many of them were sung as part of our 8th grade graduation program 3 years later. Both Sides Now, Swing Lo Sweet Chariot, Lean on Me and Time in a Bottle. I recall her talking about what a great singer Jim Croce was. We may not have fully understood the songs meaning but were affected nontheless.

Another enormous tragedy occurred in a Beechcraft. This time it was a Be. V35 Bonanza that took Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valence. That was 3 Feb 1959. One of the blackest days in rock n' roll. I wanna thank you Adam. For many years I've only heard the music I wanted to, mainly hard rock and metal. A few years ago a very precious friend Randi started to drift from that genre on her reaction channel, and begun to open up new horizons of sound and taste for me. Now you have taken this much deeper with your channel. Randi's channel is called better every day, and she cover a lot of topics outside of music, but the music she covers is mostly recent material, but now and the she'll look into older stuff that's new to her. Seems like a plug, but I love this lovely young mom as though I was her dad. So thank you fer taking into missing years of music that my own snobbery stopped me from enjoying. Today's video cover one that I'd not heard of, the artist or the song. But them being in England I'm subjected to a different scene. Once more young man, thank you. Bye for now. No, I'm not THAT Graham Nash. Wish I was, you may have asked me for an interview eh? LOL TTFN
