To hear a nicely done re-imagining of one of my favorite Genesis tunes makes me appreciate what a great song it is and hearing it in a different way is like hearing it for the first time. That's the beauty of well done covers, nicely done guitar solo, thanks for posting this.

Too often this song is played without that series of descending minor arpeggios on acoustic guitar that begins here at 3:50 - to me this is one of the most sublime passages in all of Genesis' repertoire, even though it's done and gone in little more than a few seconds of time.

Thanks! Can-Utility - can opener - is a pun of Canute (The Great), king of Denmark, Norway and England. He showed to his "flatterers", that Kings have no divine powers against forces of nature. In this case tide.

One of my top five Genesis tracks and a very decent cover. Tony Banks' keyboard wizardry was crucial to this track, as was the build-up by Hackett's acoustic guitar, and the Afterglow keyboardist and guitarist are close to the original.

That doesn't look like a real mellotron, but sounds pretty close. What is it?
@bfdmudk9 ай бұрын
Well, the first appearance is a prop, I think. It is looks like a small organ as found in many homes and chapels - affectionately known as a "salme-cykel" ("psalm bicycle" because many of them had foot-operated bellows) here in Scandinavia. It sounds like a real Mellotron, or a VERY good sample.
@afterglow_band9 ай бұрын
Mellotron parts were played on a VST instrument, using Ableton Live software to make live performances possible. the samples were recorded from real mellotron tapes. Currently I use a free plugin called REDTRON S.E. for live and studio work.
@afterglow_band9 ай бұрын
And for the video I used a reed-pump organ, about 100 years old. usign green screen in the studio, I did not need to travel 800 km north to do the recording at the northernmost point of europe...
