I had exactly the same problem with the skill tree. I was wondering for a while why the enemies were so spongy, including the bosses. I only realised that you could add points anywhere after the cat boss. Suffice to say, I really had to "get good."

I've been waiting to hear what the reviews said on this. The visuals look incredible, and I do enjoy a good Metroidvania (skill trees and other RPG elements are a guilty pleasure for me as well). I'm glad to hear that it's got some solid gameplay and only a few small drawbacks. I think I'll be picking this one up sometime down the line. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review, I really loved the demo for the game I played on Steam and I'll soon be playing the Switch version when my copy arrives soon. The heads up about how things can be unclear in the game and how the skill tree isn't as restrictive as skill trees in most games are going things to know. Getting to use a whip will also probably add an additional appeal to the game for Castlevania fans.

@@onion69420 I had a harder time dealing with guider the second time you fight her after you fight first knight. Red renee can be really hard, but once you get 2 specific abilities she gets a lot easier still hard but once you understand how she functions she beatable within 2-3 attempt and helps a lot that red is the only boss that doesn't punish you for touching her.

Hello! This is a great game. For a better experience, I advise setting the voice acting to the original chinese language. It really sounds and fits well, even tho you can't really understand what's being said, you'll have to read more.

I played this on next fest, but quickly dropped it because budget Navi just WOULD NOT shut up, constantly interrupting my exploration. I might give it a shot down the line. Consumables not recharging after you die is one of my big "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?" moments of design - Feudal Alloy & Aeterna Noctis did the same thing. It basically means you can't include the consumables as your strategy during boss fights. The overly complex build system is also not something I'm a fan of in - in general, but especially in metroidvanias.

Basically at least from my end on the ps5. The game is great one of only a few games that actually works smoothly at launch. Hell of a challenge. But one big prob i have is most of the bosses beyond lvl60. Some can be taken down in 1-3 tries, really just comes down learning how their patterns work. But then there's the other bosses that're just outright stupid hard which ultimately can kill any wanting to play or even finish the game. There's no real pattern or consistency to them, looks like there is. But the moment you think you found it they change it up and you die. Loss and guider are perfect examples of this as cheap as hell bosses with special attacks that fill up a screen in a constant barrage of attacks, combos and a retarded hit box on you. All the while everything in the stores are expensive and your health and mana potions are very far and between and even if you manage to save up to get say 20-40 of them from a store your limited to only using 2-5 of them per save/death pending on which grade you have.

Combat look very monotone and the dash mechanic is there just because it has to be, not because the map require to use it. At the end of the day there's s LOT of cute metroidvanias out there but they can't nail a good gameplay or combat. Look what happened to Curse of the Sea Rats.

I've never once heard someone complain that a game is too colorful... Have fun with your greyscale salt and sanctuaries and whatnot
