I love you just getting after it being a young kid and learning by doing. A good way to transfer holes is using plexiglass on the back of the carb then putting that on the intake. Remember not to flip the plexi or your hole will be inverse. Sharpie the plexi to indicate which side is what.

Good tip! I’ll try that next time, thanks🙏🏼

You can also grind flat spots on intake for the bolts to clear it

For the side where the nut would not go flush, use a piece of metal tubing as a spacer.

I had a 1981 Honda express nc50 like yours, I love those bikes I sold already to a good guy. I now have a 1979 Honda express2 na50 and I have the same carburetor but of course it doesn’t fit. Looking forward to the spring so I can put some mies on it after a complete rebuild, thanks for posting and ride safe. Hope you put out update future videos.

I’ve got 2 other Expresses near perfect condition that have been sitting for years. Will be doing a video on getting them running sometime this summer. Hope you get your biike going, they are so much fun when running and extremely reliable!Stay tuned, and thanks for the comment👍🏼

@@Mechanic_kid you got it, I’ll be looking forward to it. I even thought about doing a resto mod on a different Honda express whether is a nc50 or a na50 by keeping the original look but swap a gy6 long case 150cc on it. That’s going to take a while due to finding certain parts. My na50 is very complete and even the hard to find pieces are there I’ll be putting a new seat cover on it, I might put out a video on that soon.

That carburetor is most likely a 32mm and the correct spacing is 38mm from bolt hole to bolt hole. I have a new carb for my 79 Honda express2 bike I cleaned it for the second time and it still doesn’t rev up I think I have to revisit the points just in case, hope to see more videos on it soon.

I just ordered a new replacement carburetor for my 1980 NC50. It's imperitive to measure the intake. My intake is 38 MM. So I ordered a bolt to bolt 38mm replacement carb. ALWAYS measure before ordering is my advice for your future reference. But good video
@Mechanic_kid2 жыл бұрын
100% correct! I had that carburetor laying around and just made it work. But ya, depending on your year, the intake size changes👍🏼
@robandkampenny1812 жыл бұрын
Might I suggest “notching” the holes on the carb next time. As you said it’s a cheap eBay carb, but you’re putting the carb on an oem intake tube. If that carb ever crapped out and you wanted to go back to stock, now you have a hacked up intake. Additionally you wouldn’t have had clearance issues with the bolts. I enjoyed the tuning part of this video though. 👍
@Mechanic_kid2 жыл бұрын
That’s a very good point, i’m not exactly sure why I didn’t do that. I think there wasn’t enough material on the carb to widen it to match the intake holes. Will definitely need a new intake if I go back to stock haha. But hey, it was a $75 express so who cares😂
@robandkampenny1812 жыл бұрын
@@Mechanic_kid I got a free express when I was 15 and it was trashed. Spent a year cleaning it up! Sorry about the “hacked up intake” comment. I had to replace that tube because the dude before me did basically the same thing and I guess that struck a nerve 😂 Btw, a clean express can fetch some money in large cities. For $75 you got one heck of a deal!

I just got a stock honda express throttle cable from ebay. It was short but i removed the top part of the carburetor that holds the cable/adjusts the slop. Not ideal but made it work.

That's not a 1987. It's about 1978 -1980 As these bikes get more rare, its a shame young idiots like this hack these out. In the VW community, this is a real no no. I own a pristine NC50 1980. If this was a Trail 90, where parts are still available, go ahead. Love the trail 90. But the NC50 parts are so rare now.
