Thanks for this learning videos about carb.i would really appreciate if you can help and explain my problem,i just bought a 1981 h.ex.nc50 with a rusted and plugged up carb,so i bought a chinese made one fr ebay and when i installed it,the gas lever throttle cable is totaly loose and the jet needle wont go up or down,theres just no function,so i wonder how am i gonna make it work?Any idea?im just a begginner lol' thank you....

So there's an extra long throttle cable brass tube on the original carb. You will need to use something to take up the slack as the new carb has a much shorter tube. I use old fuel line that's nice and hard. Cut it to size or maybe a little longer than size and put it on before carb throttle tube.

Jack, you might be able to fix the seat on the bad carb by polishing with rubbing compound on a qtip and a drill.

@@albinoking32 So you replaced the electronic CDI box and stator with a replacement stator and points? I cannot find a stator for this model and am thinking of reverting it back to a readily available points model. If you have done this, i would love to know how it was done!

I am thinking about adding a 70cc kit to my stock 78. It runs fine, but tops out at 28 na dogs up hills. Do you happen to know if you can still run the stock oil pump or does the 70cc require more oil then what the stock 49cc used. I assume you have to switch to premix, but not sure.

I generally switch to premix but the stock oil pump is well known to put out plenty of oil that would probably even satisfy a 70cc kit.

i just got done with cleaning my original 79 honda express carburetor, now i noticed that there's a vent on the top of the carburetor next to side of the venturi and goes to the bottom towards the bowl. in not sure if its supposed to be there because the bike turns on but doesn't rev up its almost as if its running out of fuel. but i saw that the mentioned part was clogged after blowing it out with carb cleaner, again I'm not sure if the vent should be there any help would be appreciated thanks.

yes there is a vent at the top or near the top of the carb. At one time, there was probably a vent hose attached to it. You may just need to clean your carb again.

@@jackrutherford-1 i suspected that, but it’s the original carb. I cleaned every single passage blew it out then tried it on the bike and it’s doing the same thing. Do you thing it might be an electrical issue? I set the points gap to .014 according to the shop manual and I replaced the ignition coil at one point when it lost spark. Im out of options right now, I have a new carb for it but don’t know if I should try it out worried that I might have the same problem if you can think of anything please let me know, thanks.

Having trouble with an 81 model with stock carb. revs high after starting and then almost instantly dies on its own or after given any throttle. Any tips would be great.

Hmm, revs high probably due to autochoke. When it dies after giving throttle, it usually means carb is dirty. When it dies on its own, pilot jet is clogged.
